The best I have ever used.

Nice features (gps, wi-fi,camera, mp3 and video player), very good memory (8gb) good operating system, price is good,phone size is nice, nice screen size.user friendly interface, nice touch screen, battery can be better, it only last 2 day with few usage, one day with heavy use of the phone. Camera is good but can be better, it is only 3.0 but it should be at least 5.0 megapixels to be excellent, also a real xenon flash will help to make this phone something outstanding. After all, I am very happy with this phone.Read full review...

Nokia 5800 is the phone I like!

I was looking for a good phone for some three months and this is the phone I came across which I watched. While I kept watching it I found the same phone with a friend of mine who talked highly about the phone and I purchased it the same day! And all the features in the phone are as I expected. It has ample memory. Size is just ok. Weight is good. The 3.2 megapixel camera is of good quality and video is nice. The GPRS works fine. Navigation was a little messy at the beginning but I think I'm getting used to it now. The FM radio is very clear but I would prefer an FM radio which work without having to plug in the headset! Making calls is very easy with the contacts bar.Read full review...

Best among Nokians but not better than iphone!!

Desigining
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a simple tablet-based touchscreen mobile. Composed completely of plastic, it doesn't have the feel of a very expensive device, but it takes a beating and keeps going better than most.

Screen looks great... indoors. At 640 by 360 pixels, it's hard to find a device this small (3.2in screen, 111mm long by 51mm wide) that has this many pixels packed onto its surface. This means that photos, text, and web pages just look fantabulous.

Truthfully though, its not a busy device. The buttons while finger-friendly in feel, seem just a bit hard to reach all around. And the placement of the SIM and microSDHC slots on the let side seem great at first, but are a fingernail's nightmare to get open at times.However,weight is excellent (109g), and it feels like any other well-weighted candybar mobile when placed next to your head on in a pocket. Plus, the long/thin nature of the design is very pocket friendly.
Touchscreen Input: While the 5800XM is not Nokia's first touchscreen product, it is the first one that utilizes the Symbian S60 operating system. A new version, S60v5, opens up the ability for the OS to utilize a touchscreen interface. With the 5800XM, this is a mixed bag.

On the 5800XM you get to touch, but its UI is not at all similar to the iPhone, Iphone is much further from it!!. There are still too many steps to do things such as cut-and-paste, or move files from one folder to another. In addition, much of the default software is simply the same version that it is on the non-touchscreen Symbian S60 devices, without any optimization.

Performance
The 369 MHz processor is buffered by a 1320 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, GPS (with A-GPS), Bluetooth 2.0, a 3.5 mm a/v jack, and mounds of software.It's not positioned as a conventional or enterprise smartphone, however; it's a music and multimedia themed one. And given its smartphone roots, it pulls off this aspect of use reasonably well.
Music and Multimedia: Let me first say, this device has some of the best speakers that I've ever heard on a mobile device. And definitely the loudest. Music, alarms, voice calls, whatever -- these are some really great speakers and easily makes the 5800XM an alarm clock replacement.

On the optical media side, the 3.2 megapixel digital camera proves to be the only real let-down. Sure, the dual-LED, VGA video capture, digital zoom, and finger-friendly menus are great, but it's the final product that's a significant disapointment. Even with a few major firmware releases under its belt, the 5800XM is a really poor camera. Photos not only come out grainy and noisy, but they are over-sharpened and underexposed. This is not at all the best mobile to choose for a camera solution.

Being that it's a Nokia, the phone aspects are very solid. Speaker and microphone are very clear. The speakerphone, as stated before, loud and clear at all volume levels. Pairing Bluetooth devices is easy, and call management is made easier with the Contacts bar for your frequent contacts.

Final onclusions: If you wana spend 400USD then opt for iphone rather than 5800, otherwise next option is this one.

thanks

Deserved it's lackluster review for underwhelming OS.

The 5800 xpressmusic has been out for a year now and after reading the reviews online from different owners and users, I would have to agree that there is quite a significant learning curve in order for this device to seamlessly work with your daily functions in life and business. An Iphone it is not, however given it's multiple capabilities and features, a sometimes lagging UI thanks to the Sybian S60 5th edition, the 5800 can still impress after several tweaks, system software/firmware upgrade and a lot of patience. I am just glad that I did not pay retail for it because once you have run out of patience on a device that you heavily rely on for email, navigation, the use of Ovi suites, music player, video player and all around phone use, it will certainly be a terrific device that skips on water once thrown in, say the Hudson River.Read full review...

One of the best phones of 2008-2009

I'm not going to write a technical, detailed, encyclopedia-like review here. This is basically one of the best phones you'll ever come across.

Firstly, it's very straightforward and easy to use.

Secondly, the screen is huge - and bright. It's very satisfying.

Thirdly, the phone is light. It's not heavy like other touch-screen phones.

Fourthly, you won't meet too many people who are displeased with this phone. It has one of the highest ratings in the world, and it's also ranked in the top 5 on GSM Arena, one of the largest sites for phone reviews and specs.

The Nokia 5800 has amazing audio and visual, as well as two cameras (3.2 Mega pixel Carl Zeiss).

Obviously, there's Bluetooth (2.0), as well as Wi-fi (internet access), 3G network, and a built-in GPS receiver.

The java applications on the phone work very well, and the phone doesn't really freeze up as much as other Symbian OS phones.

The look of the phone only adds on to the delight of such a product, which is hopefully only the beginning of futuristic phones to come.

Nokia 5800 GPS

For GPS navigation, the Nokia 5800 comes with Nokia Maps. We were impressed with the GPS performance on this phone, and also with the fluidity of the Nokia Maps program. It was fun to start at a full Earth view and zoom in quickly to our exact location. It's not Google Earth, but its better than most phone navigation programs. We had problems entering destinations for turn by turn navigation, as the phone wouldn't let us use the widescreen keyboard layout. But once we typed in an address, the phone helped us get there, and looked pretty good doing it.Read full review...

Very Good!!

Had it all:
* GPS
* Wifi
* 3.5G
* 3 MP camera

The best:
* Easy to use
* Good touch screen
* A lot of applications out there
* Voice assisted GPS navigation
* Battery takes like 3 - 4 days of average use to dead
* Nokia didn't forget this phone (always releasing new updates firmware to improve performance, and the technical support is great)

The downside:
* The camera takes average pictures, (no bad, but could be better for a 3 MP camera)

I'm satisfied with this phone, everything works great!!!

Nokia 5800 navigation Edition

I bought this NewPhone Nokia 5800 navigation Edition like around a month ago and was impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 3.2-pixel camera, video camera,you can download many applications and it is very good on calls, WIFI, so many to mention. The size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click few times before move to another page. the Navigation is nice but take like 3 to 7 minuts to obtain the satellite signal. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.Read full review...

The little phone that can!!

This is my second 5800 Nav Edition and I have had the 1st one for almost 2 months now and this second phone is for a family member that really liked mine. Nokia did a fantastic job with this lil phone. It does not need the expensive data package it works fine on the $10.00 a month data package, it surfs the internet, plays youtube videos, (with the videos it can display in hd but that takes a while to download, several minutes, but when displayed in non hd it plays almost instantly), it is not really that slow compared to my friends that have blackberry's, when they click on a page it almost instantly appears on screen where my lil Nokia takes a few seconds, but not where I see moving up to a phone that needs the $30.00 a month data plan. Fantastic call quality, good signal strength compared to the Samsung Mythic (that I took back) and signal strength does not even compare, the Nokia pegs out while the Samsung had no signal. Where I work at everyone has signal problems and this lil phone gets a fantastic signal, all my coworkers are jealous at all the lil phone does with better signal strength and all the while using a cheap data package. I would highly recommend this lil phone that can!!Read full review...

Touch Screen, Nokia Quality, S60 , Easy To Use!

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is incredibly easy to use. I was amazed at how simple it was to set up right out of the box. I've set up my Wi-Fi, my e-mail, my MMS and text settings, browser settings, used the camera, played music and videos and I still haven't consulted a manual. I have the black North American version RM-428 with GSM 850/GSM 900/GSM 1800/GSM 1900 WCDMA 850/WCDMA 1900.

»The touch screen has an interesting mechanical feedback mechanism so you know when your input has been accepted. The phone vibrates gently, as if something has tapped it. Input is very fast and precise. Menus come up very quickly and scroll very quickly, in some instances, too quickly.

»The screen is huge. There is no other word for it. It dwarfs the screen of my my N78-3. It is vibrant, fresh looking and clear.

»The phone fits comfortably in the hand, nothing sticks out of place. The sensor knows when you want landscape or portrait orientation and I've seen it make an error only once.

»By default the WiFi sniffer is turned off so to get it ready to surf the web you have make a few changes, load the pre-shared key on a secured net and then surf. This was the easiest job of loading the pre-shared key on a phone I've ever had. It surfs quickly, pages load well.

»The music player functions like you'd think it should. No surprises, good or bad here. Loudness, balance, equalizer, stereo speakers all add to the show. The speakers are a step up from those on the N78-3.

»In the box there is the 5800 XpressMusic device with pen stylus, Battery (BL-5J 1320 mAh Li-Ion), High Efficiency Charger (AC-8U), Music Headset (HS-45, AD-54), Video-out Cable (CA-75U), Connectivity Cable (CA-101D), 8 GB microSDHC card (MU-43), Stand (DT-29), Stylus plectrum in wrist strap (CP-306), User guide and Quick guide, Mini DVD. The MU-43 comes with some songs and a few other things on it.

»Battery life is good. You'll always want more. The physical size of the battery is huge.

»The applications include the usual calculator sort of stuff, plus some Nokia toys such as a multi-language dictionary, Ovi Maps w/ voice Navigation for free is now available.

»Being an S60 driven device there are many applications, and add-ons to expand the utility of the device. One of note is the β level handwriting calculator available from the Ovi application store for free. You'll never use the stock calculator again!

»The microSDHC that comes in the device is 8 gigabytes. That's large but I know it can be filled. Not to worry. It will accept up to a 16 GB card.

»The 5800 XpressMusic isn't noticeably larger nor heavier than the N78. The screen is much larger, the GPS is quicker, the sound is better. It lacks FM transmitter and Internet Radio but otherwise is fully outfitted.

My toughest choice is: T-Mobile or AT&T SIM? Both work!

» 3G Notes: With T-Mobile I'm giving up 3G because the 5800 doesn't have the 1700/2100 AWS Band IV. The 5800 does EDGE on T-Mobile very well. On AT&T I get 3.5G downloads and 3G calling.

» Firmware V 50.2.005 is now available. Be wary of V 40 update. It bricked my 5800, which Nokia replaced and included a cash card as well. The V 40 update appears to have been pulled by Nokia. Phone runs more smoothly with V 50.

» After a year of use this phone looks and acts like new with no "stupid stuff", aside from the errant update, cropping up along the way. This appears to be a really good, sturdy model.
