What if Danny Ocean is just a little smarter than everyone?

Original Ocean's 11 caper film.

The plot has been laid out by plenty of reviewers, so I will take a different tack.

I enjoyed seeing this film again, and as the credits rolled, a few things occurred to me.

1. Danny Ocean is supposed to be the consummate "player".

2. He never tells anyone/everyone everything.

3. He said as they left the hotel room the last time, "I've been making too many mistakes"

4. The move at that point was "get Duke off of our backs"

5. There was zero security at the mortuary, and way too many Rat Pack members to transport and stash the cash contained in five small bags.

6. Only a complete idiot would drop the $10,000 band next to the coffin.

Sooooo...... what if the band was planted. Danny knew full well that Duke was getting information from somewhere, and Duke indeed showed up at the service. If Danny had returned and moved the cash without telling the gang, then their response to the cremation would further convince Duke that the money had been burned. Danny could have bribed (or simply suggested to) the funeral parlor director into urging the cremation (remember, Duke dealt with the partner, not the director, and told him not to say anything to anyone).

QUESTION: When is it easiest to get away?

ANSWER: When no one is chasing you.

Duke is convinced the money is gone. There is no reason for him to rat out the gang, as there is no profit in that move, and it would only alienate his fiancee. The Rat Pack is now free to trundle off into the sunset. This was an era when movie endings were not always clear cut. Sometimes, viewers were left to make their own conclusions (The Lady or The Tiger).

I like mine.

Ocean's Eleven (DVD, 2001)

Comedy caper about a group of commandos from WWII who again come together to pull a heist in Las Vegas where they plan to simultaneously rob the top five casinos. The eleven member group have a plan to rewire the cash room doors so that when the power is cut at midnight on Dec.31, the locked doors will spring open. Of course, this movie was made with the criminal technique of 1960 movie going America. The power will be cut by dynamiting the main electric towers coming into town. Las Vegas was a considerably smaller place fifty years ago. Danny Ocean, the team's leader is Frank Sinatra, and his second in command is Dean Martin, who's mother is engaged to a big time gangster, Duke Santos, (Caesar Romero). Santos figures out the caper, and is mad because they did it while he was in town. Then he tries to broker a deal with the casinos for 50%. The entire plan is flawed ten ways to Sunday, but I guess it was believable in 1960. Their whole plan goes wrong when one of the gang dies. They then plan to smuggle the money out of town inside his coffin, but in a turn of events, his wife has both him and the money cremated. Great cast though, and typical Rat Pack movie of the time.Read full review...

A CLASSIC OF '60s COOL...AND DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

It is not uncommon these days to see more and more 'remakes' of some of the great legendary efforts from Hollywood's proud past, which may tell us all something about the movies these days; that there is neither an abundance of orginality, nor talent for that matter, and the 'business' end of the industry is out to rip off the public with sub-standard Xerox knockoffs !!!

Of course, if George Clooney is going to rely on 'remakes', you can't fault him for his choices, just the BAD RESULTS (see 'FAIL-SAFE).

All one would need do to confirm my opinion would be to see the original version of "OCEAN'S 11" and then compare.

It is hoped that there are TRUE FANS out there who would still appreciate one of the best efforts of the legendary 'RAT PACK', as they skillfully loot five Las Vegas casinos of millions of dollars in cash with an imaginative plan; by non-violent means.

ALSO, please note that these guys did alright just doing different and originial movies during thier careers; singly as well as together.

Can't blame Clooney for trying !!!

The DVD includes some good special features, such as commentary from the director, as well as a segment from 'The Tonight Show', with Sinatra interviewing Angie Dickinson about their work in this classic film.

To me, no one could do better than the CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD & CO !!!!!

Ocean's Eleven (2001, DVD)

We ordered this DVD because we like old movies and have ordered others and the prices are good. The DVD is in fine working order. It took some time to get it, though, and that is why I give a "Good" rating, rather than "Excellent." Our experience has been the same with all of the movies that we have ordered. Good quality, good prices, takes a while to get them, sometimes a few weeks.Read full review...

The Original Ocean's 11. Sinatra & the Rat Pack

When I saw this movie re-mastered on DVD, I jumped on it. There is something about viewing the original made back in the 60's as apposed to the new digital movies made in today's high tech. enviroment. This original with Sinatra & the Rat Pack is definitly one that needs to be in your collection. While the new version with Clooney and his gang is more digitally entertaining, this original is reflective of the way movies were made back in the 60's. It is a tribute to how Vegas was at that time. Most of these old hotels have been demolished... as is the fact that all these Stars have left us to meet their maker...it is indeed a piece of history. If you can still find one...get it.. you will not be dissapointed.Read full review...
