Spooky tale of family haunting

I thoroughly enjoyed this scary look into what happens to a family being taken over by the evil spirit residing in the mirror. It is a slow build-up of suspense until the end when you realize the mirror has won, and the things that you thought would work to stop it/destroy it have failed. Not a lot of blood and guts but more of a psychological horror, which in my opinion, is scarier than people being chopped up every other minute. Highly recommend this gem.Read full review...

A fresh variation on the haunted mirror plot

This is an artistically brilliant horror film. The action flips back and forth between the past and the present. Usually, this makes a film a confusing mishmash, but in OCULUS the audience quickly figures out which is which. The cast is very talented, and both children and adults appear to be their stated ages. The idea of a haunted mirror isn't new, but OCULUS offers an original variation on the theme. Instead of sucking people into itself, the mirror distorts what its victims see in the real world. For example, a man thinks he is pulling a band-aid off his finger when he is really pulling out his own fingernail. In this manner, the mirror causes people to commit murder or suicide. Ten years ago, a brother and sister lost their parents to the evil mirror. Now they are determined to fight it.
