A touching book. It's short. Portrays characters well

The 2 main characters where great. Especially how the go on their adventure to find their "dream farm". Back in the old times (I believe the book took place in California), when blacks where treated unfairly, and "handicapped" people were looked down upon, one man (Lenny) takes care of this "handicapped" (George) bonding an unforgettable friendship. The ending is a little sad, but still a great book to read. The only reaon i gave it four stars, was because it just insnt my kind of interest, but because i thought it was much better than i anticipated, and actually has some very good parts, i would defnately give it 4 stars.
P.S. i belive it takes place during the dust bowl in California, but havent read the book in a long time.

Baby steps into the english poetry

Being a pretty young villain from suburbs of Russia, and living most of my life in a country where schools are very nationalistic contemplated poetry that I've read only to national literature and Russian classic (ex-ussr).

Even through english is my 3rd language I've had pleasure learning it from mass media and online games throughout my 13-18 years of life.

Sometime ago I went on to change my priorities, my views. I've heard about this book approximatelly 7-8 years ago, back when I was watching TV series "Lost". Back then it didn't mean anything to me as I was too young to open my mind to something so new and uncommon.

A few weeks ago I ordered this book, and two days ago I started reading it.

From the very first page I was sucked into it so deep that I've spent 6 hours reading it with the help of a vocabulary. It was a harsh path, but after understanding every single word and emotions of the author I've understood that J. Steinbeck is the writter to go for everyone who is trying to get a different view on life and understand the beauty of something so different.

I will not go into the details of the scenario so I don't spoil the pleasure for everyone who hasn't had the opportunity to go through it yet.

Characters of this book are not very emotional, they're not sci-fi. They're just as real as they can be. This book speaks a lot about the harsh path of people living differently from the community of big cities.

The way it's written blowed me away. After reading a lot of Russian classics, such as Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Pushkin I felt no regrets after trying something that is out of my comfort zone.

Being specific, every book is a matter of taste. I am myself a person with deep understanding of psychology and philosophy, as well as great skills in Engineering which I am currently studying for as my bachelor's degree. This book has everying that pleases my mind. Liars, upstarts, curators, wise and calm, innocent and stupid, as well as "simple" characters. Most of them have same ambitions, but all in all they're represented in every single possible way.

Words that are used here make the book have it's own life, so influencing that even a person who didn't like rereading the book again is currently doing it now just to go through the amazement and beauty of it for another time.

There's a reason Steinbeck got a nobel prize for his works, and after reading this piece of art I understood that he deserved it. Book is short, but it does what it has to - influence a person, transfer emotions, feelings and teach someone to be less cynical and more open-minded.

Not a must-read for everyone, but definitely is one for everyone who wants to feel ashamed for some people while being proud for the actions of some simple, but extremely courageous ones.

Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck

This was a very good book. It is not that long and is a pretty easy read. The two main characters are Geogre and Lennie. The two work on a ranch and you meet some of the characters. Lennie who loves animals and it side tracks him. Lennie doesn't think before he does something and this gets him in trouble throughout the book. The book is a must read. I don't want to give to many details away because you should read the book. I think you should buy it and can get it for a reasonable price on Ebay.Read full review...

A must have for English students

The Penguin edition of the paperback book, "Of Mice and Men", is the required edition for the English class that I am enrolled in. The book is standard for many high school and college classes. It is a convenient size that does not take up too much space in a backpack. Any book written by John Steinbeck is good to have for future reference.Read full review...

I purchased the pp bk for my grand daughter, good bk

My grand daughter is starting high school at a private school, a list of reading book(s) assignment was s ent to her, we couldn't find the book in the bookstore or anywhere, so we went on-line at e-bay and found it. I've read the book many years ago and I am sort of amazed that schools are still using J. Steinbeck's novels for English/Literature programs! My grand daughter enjoyed reading the book, once she ot to her school, she had to take a test on the book! Funny, I made her read every evening, sometime orally! Thanks!Read full review...

great value for the money

I bought this book for my daughter assignment on english honor class. Initially she wanted Anna Karenina but she changed her mind when she realized she would never had the time to read it in proper time( very busy schedule: she takes all the others honors classes , volunteers at a hospital in the nearby, she also works part-time and takes tennis and driving lessons). She read the book in just few hours and then she did the research paper. She also took into the account the amount of info she would find online.Read full review...
