Pictures and value for money put C7070 at top of class

There's a lot to like about the C7070, but perhaps the best thing is the value it represents. It's rugged, feature-filled, and has excellent optics -- all at a price at the low end of the prosumer class.

Pros:
= Image quality is superb. I didn't see anything better short of a DSLR.
= A zoom range equivalent to 27-110. The wide angle end of the range is especially useful, and was a major selling point for me.
= I take a lot of sports pictures, and the 7.1 megapixels allows me to tightly crop but still get useable images.
= The macro-shooting capability is nothing short of outstanding.
= Everything under the sun is adjustable, or, if you wish, you can just let the camera do the work.
= You can shoot at shutter speeds between 16 seconds and 1/4000th.
= There is a wide range of metering options -- so many, in fact, that I'm still learning how to use them all.
= It can shoot using CF and xD memory, and you can have both cards in the camera at the same time.
= Battery life is excellent, though it uses a proprietary battery type.

Cons:
= The upper end of the zoom range is a little short, though you can extend it with add-on lenses. I use my medium telephoto add-on quite a lot.
= The body is pretty bulky, though if you're used to carrying around an SLR you won't even notice. Still, it's not exactly pocketsized.
= Like many cameras in its class it has problems in low light. The autofocus can take a while to lock and the camera is no DSLR when it comes to lens speed.
= The imaging software included with the camera is nowhere near as nice as, say, Canon's. I rarely use it except to convert RAW images to TIFF files for import into Photoshop.

A pony in the bottom of the barrel. Wow, what a camera!

After reading why Consumer Report considered this camera a best buy, I was on a mission to buy one. I never thought I would own a camera this nice. Olympus support is excellent as well. It's a pleasure to deal with them.

Wow, what a nice camera! I absolutely love it! I never dreamed, at my age, I would own a camera this nice.

I am going to buy a High Resolution Fisheye 0.5xWide Angle Lens as I want to take pictures of a very large antique sideboard in a limited interior space. I can't tell the sideboard to move back so this lens is necessary. The wide zoom that comes with the camera works well when taking wide zoom pictures outside where you have plenty of room. I took a family picture outside, with the wide zoom, that I was pleased with. I also took a picture of a hummingbird, in my flower garden, that turned out great. I had to be far enough away that I wouldn't scare-off the bird, plus I wanted to include the exceptional flower garden I was blessed with this year. It worked!

The camera has two micro (micra?)settings enabling wonderful clear pictures of small objects, as the picture can be snapped just inches away from the object. I am amazed with the quality of the pictures. I took a picture of a stir-stick, from my 85 year old Aunt Helens swizzle stick collection. I set the stir-stick on a red pillow, placed the camera on a box several inches from the stick, then just simply snapped the picture. I was amazed at the quality of the picture.

Another plus is the camera has a very long life battery.

There is a problem. This camera has been discontinued by Olympus. They are very hard to find and when you do find one, they are quite expensive, as everyone is looking for them. Is the camera worth it? It depends who you're asking, me or my husband. Just joking kids! Personally, I am thrilled to own a camera this nice. I'm not sure at my age, if I'm worth a camera this nice but to me it's like finding a pony in the bottom of the barrel. If you really want something, keep looking as somehow, someplace, somewhere there will be a pony in the bottom of the barrel, that you never thought would come your way. I am tickled pink with my new pony!

Blessings!
Suzy

Olympus C-7070 WZ 7.1 mp: In a League of its Own

The C-7070WZ, by Olympus, is a unique camera with features that are not to be seen in many other digital cameras. You can probably get a digital camera that will take as good or better pictures, but your adventure in composing a shot, dabbling with camera features and experimenting with shutter, aperture, lighting and other such variables won't be the same without the C-7070. Fully manual control allows such exploration. Features such as dual CF/XD memory card use, a tremendously articulated viewing screen, very strong battery power for durability over a day of shooting, magnesium construction, an external flash shoe and the remarkable 27mm equivalent wide angle capability are part of the C-7070's repertoire. Combined, these features are not to be found readily on other non-slr digital cameras. What can you say about a 220-page advanced manual? With the C-7070, if you can think of trying a shot or adapting a setting, you can make it happen with this camera.

With so many digital camera users out there with similar and "vanilla" equipment, it is fun to have this Oly in your hand; to true afficianados of digital cameras, you have a unique and powerful piece of camera equipment in your hands.

As time goes by, the C-7070 seems to be developing a cult following, reminiscent of the old Canon T-90 film slr. Read the reviews; the Olympus seems to wow all those who take time with it to discover its positives and features.

If nothing else, the C-7070 would seem to be an investment that will appreciate among digital camera fans. Most of all, enjoy it now for it's inviting capabilities and great picture-taking features. The world of digital photography is skewing toward the multi-featured digital SLR, but the bottom line is that the C-7070WZ will always be an attractive camera for what it can do and its features.

Olympus Camedia C 7070 Wide Zoom 7.1 Megapixel

I love this little camera. This is a compact fixed lens camera that a professional would like. Some of the unusual features include a OVF, B mode and manual focusing. All aspects of this camera were way ahead of it's time. I use this as a car camera or when i don't want to be seen carrying my DSLR. It won't fit in your pocket but you can carry it nicely in coat pocket. This camera also uses the BLM1 battery that is a standard on most Olympus DSLR cameras. It also has excellent Zuiko glass and not the cheap material in most other compact cameras..the only negative aspect...I just wish Olympus had of kept on producing it!Read full review...

Great camera with pro features.

This has been a great camera to supliment my DSLRs. I take it most everywhere. Great macro features, nice quality and plenty of auto and manual settings. Fairly quick to set, a little slow focusing in low light, works great though with my FL36 and FL50 flashes. Good battery longevity. Buy one while they are still available. Would like a larger minimum aperature but 27mm wide angle is great.Read full review...

Great Macro

Bought mainly for close up shots and it does a good job. The only thing I don't like is the power on switch which is cumbersome to use.

C-7070WZ stands for amazing quality.

I've been a '7070 user since early 2005 when Olympus released it. As of now, it's no longer sold and anyone lucky enough will find it on eBay or some other place. I highly recommend the '7070 to anyone interested in a high end camera that delivers on incredible levels.

This camera's been around the country with me in the past two years. I've gone swimming with it (not literally taking it into the water, just holding it over my head with a tripod), I've gotten into crazy nooks and crannies with its articulating LCD, and I've sold some awesome prints with it.

The BLM-1 battery life is incredible. If you decide to upgrade the '7070 with the BHLD-20 power battery holder, the double BLM-1 hookup provides immense power. The '7070 also accepts CF/xD cards at once, with a button to switch between the two. I have a camera bag chock full of '7070 accessories ranging from the WCON-07C wide angle lens to the TCON-17C telephoto lens, plus a variety of filters that attach to the lens via the filter thread or the 48.5 barrel thread.

The '7070 is worth every bit of money you'll spend on it, expect it to last many years - just treat her with respect and love and she'll last a long time!
