New York, New York - It's a wonderful town!

As a film graduate, this has to be on record one of my favourite films of all time! The inimitable Gene Kelly, The incomparable Anne Miller and the Boss himself - Mr Frank Sinatra. What else could you ask for in a movie?? But then you add the comic timing of Betty Garrett, the zany character of Jules Munshin and the grace of Vera-Ellen and you have just about the best Broadway to Celluloid crossover picture ever produced. The dance sequences, songs and comedy make "On the Town" one of Hollywood best successes.

You may or may not know that "On the Town" was MGM's first picture to be shot partially on Location in New York - instead of the usual "back lot". It caused quite a stir in the Big Apple! In fact at the beginning of the film whilst Gene, Frank and Jules sing "New York, New York", if you look closely above the Statue and fountain in Rockefeller Plaza you will see the hoardes of people who turned out to get a look at their favourite stars!!

All in all, if you like Broadway shows, or you love the golden age of classic Hollywood musicals - then this film is for you! But don't take my word for it - watch it and see.Read full review...

Not all Bernstein's TOWN but fun!

Although this film's score leaves out more than half of Leonard Bernstein superlative stage score, it's great fun. Those MGM musicals, star-studded feasts all, always provided a rich experience even they sometimes verged on the simpleminded as happens here. Read full review...
