A Classic Handheld Shooter

The original Contra is arguably the king of the early 8-bit action shooters. If you have any passing interest in the genre at all, and have ever owned a Nintendo, you have probably played it. Consider this game to be its little brother.

Operation C is basically a shorter version of the original classic, and it includes everything that made that game great. As usual, the objective is simple: Destroy the alien soldier forces and save the planet. All of the old favorite power-ups are included, along with a few new ones, and the run, jump, and shoot action is almost identical.

If you have a GameBoy that will play old-style cartridges, and have any interest in the Contra series, then this title is highly recommended. Just bare in mind that this game is far from high-tech by today's standards (though it was cutting edge back in its day).

Note: If you like contra and own a GameBoy Advance (or any player that plays the games), be sure to grab the port of the SNES classic Contra III: The Alien Wars. Just be ready for a challenge, as it is a significantly harder game!Read full review...

The best run-n-gun on Gameboy

This iteration of Contra pretty much nails everything you like about the 2 NES games, being somewhat based on Super Contra. The music is great, controls are great, graphics are great. The game is much easier than the NES counterparts, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your taste. I wouldn't dock it a star just for being a little easy, it's clearly the best of its kind for Gameboy.Read full review...
