Don't Worry JLo is Not THAT Bad in This One...

I was very surprised I liked this film. Pretty much all of Clooney's films I like - there are a couple of exceptions like A Fine Day and The Peacemaker. The same cannot be said for JLo. Could it be the over-exposure, her annoying attitude or just plain bad acting but anything with her in it I automatically avoid.

So when I caught this on a movie channel I figured I would watch some of it if just to see Clooney and drool...which I did. But I also stuck with the film and began to enjoy it. The writing is smart and funny, the pace is fast, Steve Zahn is ALWAYS good, so is Ving Rhames.

Clooney lands in jail after a botched bank robbery, he breaks out and in the process of getting out kidnaps a Federal Marshall (JLo). So Clooney and Rhames go to Miami and then Detroit for a big score - a former inmate has $5 million in uncut diamonds. But they are not the only ones who know about this and so they have to outsmart the bad-bad guys (unlike them who are good-bad guys).

Excellent cast, Soderbergh did a great job with the colors - this was probably a test run for the look in Traffic. Recommended for fans of Elmore Leonard's writing and Soderbergh's style, or if you just like watching George Clooney.

Clooney at his best

The team of Soderbergh & Clooney has produced such lovely results as Oceans Eleven and experimental less-than-commercially successful gems like The Good German. I've seen Out of Sight at least a dozen times and had to have it for my collection. Clooney is so smooth in this one that watching him is like sipping warm caramel. He's the only actor to date to pair well with Jennifer Lopez, and the rest of the cast, from Don Cheadle to Ving Rhames, are superb--this owing to Soderbergh's fine sense of when to give the actors full rein. The story's convincing with enough twists to be interesting, a guy flick and a chick flick at once. One of the best heist films ever, in my book, with Gorgeous George playing the role he was born to play, according to Soderbergh in his voice-over commentary. Clooney as the charming criminal? Sure, he's made a career of it (let's see, all 3 Oceans films, O Brother, Out of Sight...)--so much so that people question whether he's actually acting. Who cares? This one's entertaining to the nines.Read full review...

Excellent movie!

This script is well written and very well acted. Clooney and Lopez have amazing chemistry and are a joy to watch. I also love Steven Soderbergh's direction. He's a great director and brings a delight to the screen through camera angles. This suspenseful drama has it's laughs and is a pleasure to watch. I highly recommend it!Read full review...
