Best Lens I've Ever Owned. I Treasure This Lens

This is the sharpest Lens in the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lineup. Most people know that. What many don't know, is that it's probably the fastest focusing lens of all the MFT lenses. It's also one of the fastest, and the fastest lens with the fastest auto focus. And it also has image stabilization. It's perfect!

It has a manual aperture ring, dedicated switch for manual versus auto focus--I just leave it on because it works so well.

The only thing not to like is the price. I bought mine as a display model and paid $1040 for it. I've seen them sell for in the $900 range. If you see one for around $1000 buy and you will never look back. It will instantly become your favorite lens.

Why should you not buy it? There are many good lenses in this focal length that are almost as fast, much lighter, and these are all fine lenses, but they are not the best for sharpness, focus speed, and many do not include image stabilization.

Bokeh is the word that is associated with this lens. Go to Amazon and see my review there for some pictures. It creates a more three dimensional feel than any other lens on any other focal length. Perhaps the 25mm f/1.4 comes close. And I understand Olympus has come out with a 25mm f/1.2. Neither of these has image stabilization. IF you need ore speed than this, the Voightlander Nocton manual focus lenses are f/0.95.

Finally, this lens makes women swoon and melt in your arms. You will have to carry a stick to beat them of.

Final thoughts: I have nearly every Panasonic Leica lens in the MFT, including the 45mm Leica Macro--which I also like immensely. This Nocticron is still head and shoulder above the rest. I love it and want to be buried with it.

Crazy sharp

Right off, this is the sharpness lens I've ever owned. So sharp, even wide open at F1.2, that I don't need to apply any post processing sharpness from the raw images. This lens is also crazy expensive, but, I bought it used and have no regrets. I bought it mainly to shoot stage performances and concerts. It's just the right focal if shooting in front of the stage (photo pit). Other than that, the images are very nice, has that Leica natural color palette, it's lightweight and small enough. This is going to be my go to prime lens for years to come.Read full review...

Awesome lens, but soon to be obsolete

If you need the image stabilization in the lens, this is one of the best lenses you can use. NO, check that, it IS the best lens for that purpose. However, if you own an Olympus MFT camera with 5-axis stabilization, you don't need this lens, just patience. Olympus is about to release the first of their low-light f/1.2 PRO lenses that will make this lens obsolete for Oly owners, at least in terms of cost.

Patience, for sure...

Nice glass

Fast glass, sharp and solid build. Not clickless, but aperture controlled in my camera at least for quiet adjustments.

Absolutely incredible lens

Although it is expensive, it really feels great, silky smooth operation and the optics are stunning. Probably the sharpest lens I own in my Lumix system. Really deep reversible hood. It is great to see commitment from Lumix / Leica to create extraordinary lenses for Micro4/3 format.Read full review...

Leica Quality

This Nocticron is absolutely stunning Lens at 1.2 maximum aperture it is perfect for low light situations giving a fast speed at a low ISO setting.
Also it is made of durable and expensive materials under LEICA standards and that are well known for their quality for many decades.
Great looking and feeling in your hands and has metal hood very durable which can be reversed and attached on the lens backwards for more protection during transportation.
The Panasonic Leica DG Nocticron 42.5 is characterised by its fast and sophisticated optical design.

LEICA

Its true that leica optics are remarkably different in quality than others.
This is obvious on the Nocticron lens that LEICA has done for the micro 4/3 system . I just love this lens it offers me the chance not to use flash even at night photography with it's wide-open 1.2.
Actually i decided to enter the micro 4/3system after i saw this lens . Its outstanding in every respect.

Favorite Micro 4/3 Lens!

I've been shooting video with m43 for 3 years now. I must say this is my favorite lens! 85mm gives such a unique look. Pair that with the creamy bokeh and sharpness you get out of this lens, and you'll get great looking image. Shooting mostly with a GH5s. The only feature I wish it had was being weather sealed. Not too big of a deal for me though.Read full review...

Micro 4:3 has a bad low-light rep

Compared to FF or ASP-C m43 has a rep it's not as good in low-light. With modern software like Topaz you can eliminate most of this noise in post. Having said that this lens lets you keep the ISO low enough in low-light that you don't experience this much noise. Photos indoors under natural light handheld without a tripod are possible with this lens. It'll be perfect for my next project, cathedrals in Italy.Read full review...
