It's an old point and shoot, but it works for what I need it for. Files are small and have good detail. A great in-the-pocket camera. Remember, it has a Leica lens!

Error Message Comes Up on Display Screen.

While the body of the camera looks in lightly used condition, the camera software keeps jamming up and an error message appears "PLEASE TURN CAMERA OFF THEN ON AGAIN". I clear the message, but it pops up again within a few seconds of trying to use the camera. It may have gotten jarred too hard during the lengthy journey from Kentucky, US, to Manitoba, CAN. This is an excellent camera for general use and a great value.

As a part-time photographer, I find this a great all-round dependable camera with all the features I require in a camera. I have two - one bang-around for the beach and another that never gets near the sand!

It's a "snap" to use. I also like the movie feature, as I take many instructional videos. The zoom feature is important to me.

Uninspiring image quality despite the "Leica" brand

I'm not talking about megapixels here, because you can find even a 4Mp camera that produces nice images. People are mislead to think the more pixels the better the images. Many 5Mp cameras produce vibrant pictures, but the Panasonic DMC-TZ1 produces flat, lifeless images, very uninspiring. I'm not comparing it with a high end camera, it's just that the pictures look very uninspiring, no matter the settings you choose. The only time where the pictures look nice are in the close-up setting for close up subjects. And it's a shame, because physically the camera feels great in hand, controls are very well done, and the camera looks great and it's easy to operate. It's all metal with great buttons. The lens are ok-ish, they are made by Leica but that doesn't mean anything, any company can make cheap products. Too bad the picture software processing was so poorly done by Panasonic and cannot deliver nice images. This camera is a real sleeper as far as the exceptional quality and capability. Most people don't realize the full potential of it.
