FZ-300 Scores a 100 In My Book

Did a lot of online research looking for a 4k capable video camera that has great features and a good reputation but doesn't break the bank. This camera fits that expectation and even more! Although it cannot compete with a 600 mm F2 prime lens IQ for still photography, the 25 to 600 mm F2.8 built-in lens produces perfectly acceptable IQ for my needs and provides wide coverage single lens convenience. Did I mention the camera was sealed against dust and water splashes!? Before I purchased the FZ-300 I wanted to upgrade from my Rebel T3 and struggled with the thought of plunking down over a thousand dollars to get only some of what I wanted in a camera ... until I discovered the FZ-300. I am impressed and pleased with the results I get and the features of this camera really can't be beat for the target audience it is focused on. I like macro work so here are a couple of images taken with the camera using a 10x High Definition 2 Element Close-Up (Macro) Lens and hand held.Read full review...

I do not like this camera.

I have been shooting Canon for more than 4 decades so i am not a novice. I am usually toting a full size SLR with a heavy 150-600 ( my passion is photographing bears ) I was intrigued with this bridge camera concept and was thinking that one of these type cameras could have a place while hiking etc so i found this lumix (new) at a fair price so i purchased it. Been playing with it for about 3 weeks now trying to decypher its unusual/ complex and very non intuitive menu structure. No matter what ISO, white balance, aperture or shutter speed i select ( either in manual or one of the other settings on the control dial )
I have yet to get an image that doesnt have an awful heavy blue or green tint to it AND every single image is crazy high contrast !
I have no idea what is happening here but my two word review for this thing would read......"It Sucks" ! 👎

Exceedingly Phenomenal all around camera!

After much research, purchased this Lumix 300 for home and travel. The Fz 300 has a phenomenal leica lens that goes from macro to wide angle with ease. Amazingly fast autofocus coupled with the excellent quality exceeds all expectations! I love that fact that it can be used in inclimate weather and am looking forward to taking it to the arctic this summer. Also, phenomenal 600 mm leica lens capabilities and great battery life!Read full review...

About the close thing to a DSLR a point and shoot can get

the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300K is a great point and shoot camera with some DSLR features. Some of these features are 7 image bracketing, fixed fast lens, super great burst shooting, it has the ability to be fully controlled via wifi connection, great battery life, and so much more. And it biggest negative is the super small sensor, which does produce a bit of image noise; however, I have been able to get around that by using adobe's camera raw plug-in. Also, that really comes into play when pushing the ISO up to 1600 and above. I am primarily a sport photographer, and I shoot baseball with it this season and got some pretty good shots with it, with min. post processing. Bottomline, when I want to go lite, it is one of my go to cameras.Read full review...

Great Value and Functionality for the Cost

The thing that impressed me about this camera up front was the f2.8 through the entire focal range. I does not disappoint. I love the fact that the camera can function in fully automatic mode, but also does a great job emulating manual mode. One of the biggest benefits I have found is a series of Youtube videos that helps you refine the setting and gets you using some of the more advanced features quickly. Quality is great and this Bridge Camera leaves little want for a true DSLR for the amateur to semi professional photographer.Read full review...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300

Well... You can take it out of the box, put in a memory card, and take a high quality picture.
The many many features take a moment to digest.
I love the programmable function keys on the mini-touchscreen.

Cons -
1) there's a goofy lens cover that comes with it. It causes a shadow when using the flash.
2) the naming system. I take a lot of pictures and keep most everything. The naming system the camera uses "trips" every 1,000 pictures. I can't put everything into one directory. I much prefer the date/time naming system... but who cares what I think.
3) The interface between the camera and phone doesn't have an option to remove the image from the camera when transferring.

Pros-
1) It's a pretty awesome camera. A clear high quality image in dust/splash protective case straight out of the box. (not waterproof)
2) It has a Wi-Fi remote control system that ties into a cellphone using Panasonic's App. WOW!
3) Macro-Zoom and Telephoto Zoom on a 25mm-600mm lens with a 4x digital zoom. It doesn't give the greatest pictures at the highest, but shrink the image a bit, and it turns out nicely.
4) It has a dust/splash protective case. It's not waterproof. If water hits it at the right spot, it's just as bad. However, they say the case is splash and dust resistant. We'll see.

I could be happier with it... mostly about the Naming System. I recommend the camera as one that I'm hoping not to have any issues with during the life of the camera.

Too many features for me

This is not a dig on the camera but on me. When I think "bridge camera", I don't think "huge learning curve" and consequently have bitten off more than I want to chew. I'm still looking for the perfect setting where I can just zoom in on the subject to frame it, then push the shutter release. A few useful settings/features is fine, but in using this camera, I find myself trying to figure out what button to push and when.

In short, the camera works well and I'm sure with the proper settings, will take excellent photographs. I'm just going to have to invest more time learning it than I wanted to.

Feature packed!!!

I'm not a photographer. I am more of the uncle who takes pictures at family get-togethers. My usual weapon of choice is a Nikon D 5100. This nearly completey replaces it. I say nearly because it doesn't do quite as well in the low light as the Nikon. It's not terrible in low light, just not great. That being said, 4k video, 4k burst mode and post focus make this camera my go-to for all eventsRead full review...

great camera for nature enthusiasts

So i am a fan of bridge cameras. While there are trade-off's (namely the small sensor and lack of lens flexibility), I find that for taking out into the field when you already are carrying binoculars and beverages and sometimes camping gear and such, having a lightweight multi-purpose camera that can capture all the action is ideal. I had been using a Canon Sx-50hs for several years now. I enjoyed that camera a lot. The lens had amazing reach and the image quality was largely quite good. (Full confession - i rarely print my photos and am not really a pixel peeper. But I have a critical eye and know when a good photo is captured. I have entered and won local photo competitions with bridge camera photos. I am also an iPhone photography enthusiast so I know how to make the most out of a small sensor). Over time, the shortcomings of the Canon began to wear on me. When the telephoto was fully or nearly fully extended the lens was so slow it rarely captured the shot. When it did photos were just usable for bird ID's but not much else. More troublesome was that except in full bright sun, photos taken relatively close-up (notably birds in shaded trees or shrubs) also suffered from the lens' limitations. I kept missing shot after shot until finally I decided (after reading exhaustively) to try the Lumix. So far I am very pleased. Yes I miss the reach of the Canon at times. But it is more than countered by the amazing flexibility of the Leica glass. It is just very very capable in many more scenarios than the Canon. As an added bonus the video is a LOT better as well. Now if you are just going to be shooting in full sun and often shoot stationary targets and need as much telephoto as possible then the Canon (or a similar camera) would be great. But for me (avid birder and nature photographer) the Lumix is a more ideal compromise (and all these bridge cameras are a compromise.)Read full review...

Professional

It is an okay UHD camera. Mine has some ghosting under normal low lighting conditions. It shines under good lighting situations. I fine the neutral color scheme to be the best. I had to do some manual touches to get the best picture quality. A consumer product for sure, not great for B-cam when compared to cameras just a few hundred dollars more with bigger sensors. It is a Good way to capture 4K in a small form factor and comfortable to hold. The weather sealing is a Plus and a winner.Read full review...

The Best Bridge Camera

The question is tricky. It's not easy to use to take advantage of manual features but it is super easy to use in automatic mode.
It is an excellent camera I couldn't be happier with it
