Great RPG for both beginners and veterans

Just a great game. Manages to take all the fun elements of the Mario world and its characters and pairs them perfectly with a simple to understand but still compelling turn-based RPG battle system. I'd read that this was originally meant to be a sequel to Super Mario RPG for the SNES, but, as I've never really played that, I can't speak to how similar it really is. Nonetheless, if you grew up with that game but have never played Paper Mario, I'm sure you'll want to give it a chance.Read full review...

Part of the N64 'Greatest Hits'

A must have game for any owner of an N64. The game took a new approach for Mario than his standard level by level journey. A compelling story awaits the player as they gather info and approach enemies by 'turn by turn' base attacks. The new style and world that was created for this game left it's mark as a Classic for both the Nintendo 64 and the Mario franchise itself.Read full review...

Well made, simple and light RPG with good dialog and clever graphics.

Paper Mario is the spiritual successor to the absolutely amazing Super Mario RPG. This game was made by Intelligent Systems, the makers of the Fire Emblem series. This company makes a solid game, with lots of smart planning and perfect execution.

That said, for RPGs, this game is...well it's certainly not BAD. In fact, for kids or for those who like a bit of an easier or more toned-down RPG, this game is absolutely perfect. Turn based battles with fun timing-based enhancements to attacks or defense make battles that much more interesting, which is good when battles become very frequent and otherwise repetitive.

The brilliance of this game (this series, really) comes in it's design. Playing off the idea that everything in the world is made of paper allows for some clever graphical tricks and even game play designs (though this latter technique was much better developed in the GameCube sequel, which anyone who likes this game or RPGs in general should play). Also the dialog is witty and clever, full of laughs and enjoyment for all ages.

Paper mario! N64

Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64 Is a GREAT game!

If you like RPG's and Mario games then this Is the game for you!

It's a pretty solid RPG, If you a big fan of Super Mario: legend of the seven star's on the SNES then you will LOVE this title, It's basically part two of SM:LOTSS A++ game.

Even though It's not a 100% RPG type gameplay, it's still worth to play It, for example In most RPG's you can change you're equipment but In this game all you get Is 3-4 upgrades for 2 weapons and no armor upgrades.....Whats the point to even get money then?

But this game Is really GREAT! pretty simple BUY IT!

Why we love the Mario!

This is an awesome addition to the N64 library, and one anyone in the family can play (except baby Joey). The game walks you through the experience without being boring, and has aspects of R.P.G. gameplay and turn-based combat. The "paper" side of the game is not exploited as much as it (maybe) could be, leaving the whole possibility of sliding into another realm "behind" the one we play in unexplored. This doesn't detract from the game, just don't expect to find something along those lines :)

There are still a lot of possibilities, and much fun to be had, including a few mini-games that are very diverting. The story is told a little jerkily, with a series of intermission-style chapters-but even these end up getting in on the fun and become another aspect of the game! Paper Mario gains a number of allies along the way, each with a specialty and a number of abilities Mario (you) can use to accomplish goals. There is strategy in finding enemies' weaknesses and a few choices along the way that shape the game. Mario (you) will also gain levels and new abilities as the story progresses, so plan on finding items and changing your (Mario's) stats as needed.

All in all, the game is a blast on many levels, with great graphics and imaginative aspects to its play and the world Mario inhabits. Paper Mario fulfills the promise of the N64 as few games do!

A fabulous flashback to the glory days of RPG's and a great entry in the Mario series!

This game is truly wonderful. While I've never been a huge fan of RPG's in general, simply because I prefer to actually move the character at all times while playing, and to fight my own battles, this one is different. In Paper Mario, there is an "action button" that enables one to attack and block attacks by hitting the button at the precise moment required. Also, there is just a huge array of power up and fighting and defense attributes called "badges", each with their own unique qualities. And learning to combine the various badges and use them together results in an endless array of possible ways to vanquish the myriad foes in Paper Mario's world. The graphics are great, the enemies are great, and any fan of any entry in the many Mario series' out there will recognize most all of them, and find new ones to combat as well. There are also tons of side quests if one is inspired to engage in them, and lots of quite entertaining and funny dialogue that goes on throughout the game. The dialogue that goes on amongst the Koopa Brothers as they face off against Mario as the disguised boss of Chapter 1 is utterly hilarious, rib-tickling and cute beyond belief. The game gets more challenging as it goes along, and is just one of the greatest RPG's I've ever played. Hours and hours of fun, puzzle solving, funny dialogue, challenging quests and many fairly easy but quite a few very tough battles await the player of this game. Highly recommended! Get it while you can!Read full review...

Paper Mario N64 RPG

Paper Mario N64. Why did it take me so long to buy it? With the few titles that N64 put out I would say it's one of their best. Easy and friendly enough for kids, heavily enjoyed by adults. Most of Mario's friends make an appearance along with enemies. This game is pretty easy like all Mario games, but I think thats why its so enjoyable. The only thing I would change about is the point system. It uses small numbers like 1 xp on new difficult enemies and none for old enemies. Also there is a badge system that maxes out very early. Luigi the chicken, doesn't join any of the battles. I didn't enjoy Super Mario N64 as much as Paper Mario. Paper Mario the best N64 Mario? Thats for you to decide. I know I have.Read full review...

Guaranteed 2 satisfy! I've beaten it often - STILL fun!

This is an adventure game. After the opening cinematic, you can collect badges to upgrade your abilities, deliver mail, level Mario up, or rescue the seven guardian stars and defeat Bowser to gain back the Star Rod. The game never forces you to do anything, but some things can’t be done without completing certain story events. You travel around the Mushroom Kingdom, battling creatures of all shapes and sizes, while solving puzzles at the same time. The battle scenario is take-turn, so you don’t have to worry about being attacked while using items.

The Good: -Gameplay
-Badges
-Chapters
-Bosses
-Fighting-Style
-Music
-Partners

The Bad: -Graphics (They’re all paper…heh, heh)
-Lack of side quests

I love this game!

I bought this game on the recomendation of one of my "gamer" friends. I love this game! The live action attacking and defending makes it great. If you hit a button just right during an attack it makes that attack more powerful or special. If you hit a button just right during defense you can block or partialy block an attack. Those two things make the player more active and give the player more control in the game.

The game certianly isn't to hard but it isn't that easy either. If a child is able to play other RPG games they will be able to play this one. Adults like me will love it too!
