This is a great collection of music from one of the great bands. Lou Reed's compositions are unequaled in the alternative music scene. This collection includes all of the bands studio recordings with Lou Reed which have been remastered. The album The Velvet Underground is an alternate version, the one Lou Reed invisioned and personally I like this version better. The demo's and live recordings are somewhat jumbled meaning the quality is not always up to the standards you may be used to. This however is a mute point, this collection focuses on the band and their ever changing musical scope. I love my VU boxed set!

This box set has more Velvet Underground than anyone could tolerate...and a Colorform-like peel off banana on the box to boot! (The peeling banana would make Andy Warhol proud.) In this digitally remastered set, early tracks are included as well as a few experimental songs. However, all of the more well-known VU songs are there in their entirety, as well as a few lesser-known versions of some of the songs. The liner notes are well-written and include a lot of background info on Lou Reed, John Cale, and all the rest, including Nico. If you like Velvet Underground, buy it. If you aren't sure that you need this much VU, don't get it. I find that they're great in small doses. A lot of the stuff in this boxed set is unnecessary, but nice for fans.Read full review...

Very Happy

This is a really great set and it is in really great shape. Each CD was extremely well maintained. It is as if it were brand new. I would highly recommend it to anybody who likes The Velvet Underground or Lou Reed. In addition to this set, I would also recommend Lou Reed's "Rock and Roll Animal" album. It's really good too. It has a 15+ minute version of "Herion" on it. It would make an excellent addition to this set. I'm not sure what else to say. I'm very happy about it. Thanks.Read full review...

Truly Awesome

Instead of buying CD's and not getting all the songs, I got the box set. I got rare mixes, bootlegs and a sweet book to accompany the regular tracks on all VU's albums.

The best

There's a reason this is listed as the greatest compilation of Rate Your Music. This is pretty much the original four VU albums with a ton of bonus material. Worth buying.
