Great Pentax build, reasonably and competitively priced vs. competitors.

Good product and reasonably priced compared to competitors. The angle of view, 8x mag, fully multicoated (all lenses), rugged build, and overall Pentax quality is what made me go with this pair compared to others. I'm pleased with the value. For my purposes as a casual/hobbyist bird watcher, these are great. If you're looking for something more lightweight for travel, these could work, but it might be worthwhile looking for something more compact depending on what you want to carry with you during travel. For all purpose, well designed and built 8x mag roof binoculars, these have been wonderful. The only thing I don't like is the strange placement of the diopter adjustment and I'd have preferred hard stop screw out clicks for the eye pieces, but it's worth it for the eye relief (glasses wearers).Read full review...

Great value, good for birding.

I was looking for a pair of waterproof 8x40 or 8x42 binoculars and I am very happy with these Pentax binoculars. They are good quality, the image is clear, bright, minimal chromatic aberration. I think they are good value and will last for many years. Unlike another reviewer, I like the diopter adjustment in the center: it is easier to set and it stays put, unlike many binoculars with the adjustment on the right eyepiece. They are lightweight, but not flimsy. They feel as if they will last for many years.

I do agree with the reviewer who commented on the case not have a strap, belt loop, or any way to secure it. It is sometimes inconvenient to have straps on both the binoculars and the case, but it would be nice to have a clip to attach is to a belt or pack so that the case does not get dropped or misplaced.

The lens caps are not the best, they suffice but are a poor design, That is about the only negative I have about these binoculars.
