When I was a kid I had and Auntie whose Mother always stated, "If I ever need a Lawyer, I'm going to get Perry Mason." I remember answering back, " You know, he's NOT real." She seemed to really believe in him and his belief that his client was innocent and would go all out to prove it. She was not an educated lady, but that endeared Perry Mason to me. I love the relationships and a dash of humor mixed with seriousness. I always enjoy Mr. Mason saying,' One day I'm going to get a client that tells me the truth, or I can't fight the law and YOU (client) too; when they withhold information from him he has to find out the hard way.
Raymond Burr is excellent in this role and I read he stayed long hours to perfect this role and it shows! At the time, he was quite believable, so much so he spoke before lawyers.
We don't have lawyers like this fictional character, but I wish we did. He never took on a client he didn't believe was innocent and that made him both profitable and work harder for them. it also made client's come to him even if they didn't have much to pay him; because they believed in his abilities. One of the top TV shows of all time. Burr is great, as is the rest of the cast. Always good stories, dramatic, funny and engaging.
