"Peterson's Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants", may be a very valuable resouce book to have.

The book has the information I wanted. It is well organized. accurate, and easy to use as a reference. I did find it to be interesting, even compelling reading. I only wish it had more colored photographs. A very good value for the money. Glad I ordered it.Read full review...

latest versions are cheaply made

ive enjoyed my copy for awhile so i went to buy a copy for a gift. i was dissapointed to find that the latest print (the one with the mostly white background on the cover) was made with inferior quality stock for the cover; it is thinner, feels cheap. also, there used to be a convenient printed ruler on the back cover so u could measure plant parts. but it is gone and just replaced by the cheap card stock of the blank back cover. i guess they are trying to cut corners to make more money but i can tell the newer version wont last for years of use like my original one did. a field guide should be made of quality materials to withstand actually taking it into the field. so instead of me buying other petersons field guides for gifts, ive already started purchasing other companies field guides because of better quality. Educational

This book has very clear and decisive writing. Is also very educational on what to look for in the wild. If people are looking for information about living off grid or just living off of what nature has to deliver this book is excellent and will help people learn what is needed for the experience. Two thumbs up on the description and photos and demonstrations.Read full review...

One of the best!

Out of the dozen or so field guides, and books about wild edibles this ranks right up there with Stalking the Wild Asparagus, the bible of wild edibles. Not only are the descriptions clear, the guide is so well organized that you can search based upon location, time of year, and other factors. Furthermore, the amount of content is exceptional. Here again the only guide I have read that surpasses this one is Stalking, though the organization and cross references in this guide makes it easier to use and more useful.

After only two days of reading this book I was able to identify two edible plants on my own property of which I had previously been unaware. I honestly cannot recommend this guide highly enough.

Edible wild Plants ... Excellent Field Guide

Since I am familiar with Field Guides, I feel that Peterson's is an excellent choice to have on hand. There may be better, but in my personal experience level, I feel most comfortable with this one by Peterson's. Enjoy, I sure do ... and learn.Read full review...

Not what I needed, but nice book.

This book is not an easy identification guide in that there are too few photos/drawings, making it difficult to differentiate between similar plants quickly. I'm sure this is a great guide for some, but not what I needed. This is not Roger Tory Peterson, but his son -- so you would expect some differences.Read full review...

Excellent! Good for the beginner or experience forager!

I LOVE this book. I have this book and it took me all of the way from knowing absolutely nothing to being able to identify plants quickly, and tell the edible parts, preparing the plants for eating, etc. This book is incredibly well organized for plants with flowers, but is harder to identify plants with leaves and fruit only. The text is easy to read and simple, but provides vivid detail about specific plant identification points. For almost every plant, there is a description, an accompanying line drawing (shows all of the plant parts to make identification easy)and there are about 13 pages in the center of the book with full color photographs of select plants, illustrating general plant groups.
At the back of the book, there are organizations of plants by food use, habitat, and time of year harvesting, etc. There is slight weakness in some of the food preparation descriptions, but I've pretty well understood everything. Also, there is little focus on grasses and leafy plants, but there is only so much you can cover in a book of this size.
Overall, this is a book I would recommend to anyone who wants to eat wild plants, but doesn't want to be a geek (studying encyclopedias and plant books). With this book, you can spend most of the time in the field identifying plants, although a little time just reading and studying the book helps.
With this book alone, you will find that you will be walking or driving down the road and suddenly realize that you can identify the plants you are passing by the side of the road. That is a great feeling!!!
This is in my opinion the best book you can get for the price!!

More than you can imagine!

There is more info in here than I ever could have imagined! It's about a 3/4 of an inch thick book with color photos in the middle. Great purchase! Exactly what I needed and SO MUCH MORE
