Solidly built, excellent audio and video quality

Solidly built in Malaysia, not China. Most importantly this unit, unlike some earlier versions of Elite DVD players in 1999 or 2000, can read all my home burnt CD-Rs. The sound quality is at least as good as some $200-300 CD players of today, some of which, according to Amazon reviews, only worked a year or so before malfunctioning. I have been using a used one bought on EBay for 3 years, never had problems. And recently found the DVD video quality is amazingly beautiful even using single video RCA output. Great for DVD-A and SACD

I bought one of these years ago when they first came out and since then I've purchased 2 more both used off eBay. One for another room and the other as a spare. Great for DVD but I like the audio features DVD-Audio DTS and SACD! It dosn't do Blu-ray but I can use another player for that.Read full review...

Audio quality

I am not reviewing this for video, I bought it as a replacement for a Yamaha sacd/dvd player. As far as sound quality, it is excellent for the money. I am not comparing this to an oppo, or anything else that is above the 200.00 mark. For the money I paid the sound quality is far beyond my old Yamaha. Well worth what I paid for sacd and cd sound quality. It is connected to a Denon avr3806, paradigm studio 20’s bi-amped, with Paradigm cc-450 and Adp rears. Zu audio interconnects on this component. I used the same interconnects, and compared the old Yamaha with this unit using Fleetwood Mac Gold Dust Woman as a reference, the Pioneer won hands down. The cowbell imaging was much more precise and guitar licks were much more detailed.Read full review...

Solid-elegant-intuitive--THRILLING Audio Quality !

Purchased used,recieved in v.good condition. My intent is to use this as strictly an CD/SACD player in my 4.2 audio system.I am far more interested in the audio quality than any of the video benefits at this time. Research indicated substantial DAC's in use -vs-the lesser DAC's in my Sony dvd player.This would equate to a much desired increase in sonic quality. Initially i was NOT 'wowed', however upon further listening with many different CD's, I have discovered many little details emerge.Things like cymbals,acoustic guitar riffs,deep bass notes,vocals and more have a more lifelike 'air' to them.I AM hearing details in my music that I havent heard in years,or ever! I'm absolutely THRILLED about the quality of sound eminating from my humble little stereo system now, and look forward to my future with SACD's!!! excellent picture and audio

PIONEER ELITE....i bought this player because of the video and audio specs...did not realize how good audio and video is. This player blows my mind...i had a PS3 with blue ray...the same movie on dvd played as good as the blue ray...very minor differences. No hdmi using a crt tv....in process of upgrading. I guess if i had lcd i would notice more. But this player is very good. The one i got has a slight front face issues. Push a button and something different will happen. Press eject...video off light comes on. Push it again it ejects. Press stop...it pauses. Press again it stops. ??? Otherwise it works great.Read full review...

Exceptional Last Generation Value

With the advent of Blue Ray and HD DVD this is a great example of why it make sense to purchase higher end previous technology equipment.The quality level of the Pioneer Elite series is evident from the look,feel,even the sound the disc transport is a cut above the standard Pioneer product.The sound and picture quality is exceptional.I use an Oppo upconverting player with my projector and very happy with it's performance.I bought the Pioneer to use with a Loewe Aconda 9383 and the match up is spectacular.Read full review...

DVD-A player...and what a sweet deal!!

I auditioned atleast 15 DVD players ranging from $200 - $1200 new before I realized that only a few offered the features that are packed into this unit. Even new these units are a bargin. I was lucky enough to find mine on Ebay for a fraction of the cost of a new one. My only drawback that I have noticed is the remote is a little overwhelming if you don't want to use all of the features. Other than that, the picture is amazing....the 5.1 output is spectacular...and the price is phenominal.Read full review...
