I watched this film when it was first on the big screen. Used to have a vhs copy in my home, and am now pleased to finally have a dvd copy replacing the tape. Excellent film!!.

Johnny Depp: A Favorite Pirate for All

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), is not y/our typical Errol Flynn type of machismo swashbuckling pirate; nor does he play another Disney Captain Hook. He's more like Fagan in "Oliver." And he's ever so fey. That's his charm.

Though the pirates on the "Black Pearl" ship are dead and sometimes in their skeleton form, they aren't scary enough for kids, since this is a comedy.

The story line goes like this: A governor's daughter is in charge of a young boy her own age who has been pulled out of the sea by her father's upper-crusty crew. She notices his necklace is a pirate's one and takes it from him so that he won't be hung to death.

But, the gold medallion is the last one of a pirate's treasure that has cursed all of the crew of the "Black Pearl" ship. Without its return with the blood of the boy on it, the skeletal crew remains dead, unable to feel any life in themselves, and are not killable since they are already dead!

Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp), though a bumbling comical pirate who is after the ownership of the "Black Pearl," a ship the cursed crew stole from him, plays a marvelously non-machismo, loveable, pirate character who is the super glue that holds all of the loose ends of the film together. Black Pearl

I purchased the DVD for my granddaughter after we saw 'the Pirates of the Caribbean--Dead Man's Chest'. 'Curse of the Black Pearl' didn't have many of the special effects that 'Dead Man's Chest' had but the storyline was interesting and easy to follow. The lively, swashbuckling characters were off and running from beginning to end. Johnny Depp made 'Captain Jack' come alive with his portrail of the character. Three cheers for Johnny Depp! This movie is fantastic. It is a swash-buckling thrill a minute. Johnny Depp has won my heart back as Capt. Jack Sparrow. He is comedy at its finest with his one-liners and quirky portrayal. Orlando Bloom's character, Will Turner is loveable and easy on the eyes. Keira Knightly is fantastic as Elizabeth Swann. I love a strong female character and not one who just waits to be rescued by men. Ms. Knightly is definitely not a girly girl in this film. OUTSTANDING JOHNNY DEPP ROLE!!

This movie is one I have already watched a number of times and could watch many more. It is personally my favorite in the Pirates trilogy. And I have to say that Johnny Depp looks "mighty fine!" in his Pirate dreadlocks! This is the first role of his I've seen where he's truly funny and absolutely makes the movie what it's so famous for! This is a must see movie, ladies, and for all else, well, you'll enjoy it too! I recommend you see them all in the correct order, though, or by the time you get to the 3rd movie, you'll be a little lost - "Savee?"!Read full review...

Loved this movie. Bought it for my collection. Johnny Depp was great as Cpt. Jack Sparrow! One of the best roles he's ever played. Best one for Orlando Bloom since Lord of the Rings! Kiera Knightley keeps getting better, too... The tale of the curse was captured well, loved the effects and costumes. Absolutely a jolly good time Arrrrr!

Johnny Depp blows this picture about Pirates and the hunt for buried treasure out of the water. His portrayal of the lovable Captain Jack Sparrow really was what made this movie a must see. If you can find a better leading man in Hollywood I dare you because you won't. Johnny Depp's Sparrow is so popular that it inspires impersonators for Halloween or just to give tribute to his eccentric character. The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl isn't some movie with a really long name, it has swash buckling pirates, a buried treasure, guns and swords, a damsel in distress ( Kiera Knightly ), and a wonderful sword fight featuring Orlando Blooms character and Jack Sparrow. Disney suprise!! Pirates a hit

After almost pulling the plug on the movie (due to Depp's "odd" Pirate performance) Disney launched one of the biggest hits of the year. 2 follow up movies are scheduled.

awesome music

This movie is a good pirate movie, i know you don't hear that too often. Johnny Depp is the partially crazy Captain Jack Sparrow trying to get back his ship, the Black Pearl. Orlando Bloom is also in this, playing a key role as the pirates need his blood to break their curse. The movie is kind of lengthy but its got a lot of action, good wardrobe, and a awesome music.
