Pokemon Yellow:

the best of what generation 1 had to offer.
reworked sprites, a following pikachu on the overworld map,
and now in full color! I couldn't believe it as a kid... IN COLOR.
{the things we take for granted lol}
many hours i sunk into this game;
late nights with a small flashlight under the blankets, the cartridge
smashed around in my backpack to battle or trade with friends after school.

.battles, consisted of simplistic rock-paper-scissors type mechanics,
(a bit of luck and a gimmick wish for victory lol) [teams of 6 vs 6, one on one]
..with trades, pokemon meant more than digipets,
each monster representative of hours spent hunting in the game +rare encounter rates...
also worth noting, the game is compatible with pokemon stadium (nintendo 64),
super game boy (super nintendo), & the gameboy player (gamecube).
we would battle our monsters on the big screen crt television we had...

one of the best RPGs of all time,
definitely in the top 10. period.
to argue otherwise would be a fools errand,
a simple series that spawned a global phenomenon
with millions of sales that continue on to this day.

if you somehow have never played any of the original gameboy games,
I highly recommend that you take a play through kanto,
and see for yourself why the series became so insanely famous.
if you've already played the games & you're looking to relive a childhood memory,
the music alone is worth the price of admission.

happy gaming

Ok, but has some issues.

The game has a few glitches. 1. Storing Pokemon in Bill's PC results in the name disappearing and being replaced by a symbol (Name is gone forever). 2. When withdrawing the Pokemon stored, it's name is still replaced by the symbol. 3. Sometimes when trying to go back into Bill's PC after storing or withdrawing Pokemon, the screen will go white and freeze.Read full review...

Excellent game!

This is the best Generation-1 game of the franchisee. Includes more content than Red and Blue. Pikachu's function here is of a tamagochi. In this version, you can obtain all three starters. And of course, is the only game out of the 3 gen 1 games that comes with a mini game. It is simply because all of these things that you can feel free to skip to buy the previews two. Overall best game of its time.Read full review...

Pokemon Yellow: Nostalgic gem and timeless classic

Pokemon Yellow Version is the first Conglomerate game in the series, combining both Red and Blue versions here in the United States. The game follows the adventures of the famous Pokemon anime character: Ash and his beloved and loyal companion Pikachu. The goal is to collect as many Pokemon as humanly possible, and collect the eight gym badges to take on the Pokemon league.

For late 90's standards, this game is pretty advanced, but against today's standards, it's rather blocky and slow with odd graphics. Your starter Pokemon is Pikachu, so you don't have much of a choice, but you do have access to all three of the original starter Pokemon from Blue and Red. As per usual for Pokemon games, A is select, B is cancel, start opens the menu, and select does nothing. Which reminds me, you only have one compartment in your bag, so I'd suggest making great use of your PC boxes.

I'll admit that my first Pokemon game was Sapphire, released in 2003, but I do love this game for some odd reason. The world's most famous Pokemon is your starter, you can be whatever gender you want to be, and you still get to catch them all. Though some of the repetitive attacks are annoying, or your attacks miss more than once, this is a great game! I'd recommend this for both the nostalgic Pokemon child of the 90's, or any Pokemon new comer who is curious about its roots in the Nintendo world.

A fantastic five out of five for me :)

Phenomenal

Game runs as expected with no issues. The one I used to own in the past was stolen from me, so it's amazing to finally have the Yellow version in my possession again.

Pokemon Yellow is an "upgraded" version of Pokemon Red and Blue

Pokemon Yellow is an "upgraded" version of Pokemon Red and Blue, and it's really good, being a Pokemon game. Unfortunately, it is somewhat underappreciated, like most Game Boy Color games. And the graphics are somewhat crude, but it doesn't detract from the game at all.
In this game, you automatically start out with Pikachu, instead of choosing between Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, and your rival gets Eevee. The game plays out exactly like Red and Blue, except for a few things, such as Jessie and James showing up a few times. (Unfortunately, they only show up a limited number of times, which is a bit of a letdown if you ask me.) And the Pokemon have been redesigned to look more like they do on the TV show.

Works well and is in good condition

Very little damage to game card, label has some scratches and/smudges but the item is used so that is to be expected after 20+ years. This is actually in better shape than most I've procured. Still works, which is the main thing.Read full review...

Pokemon Yellow: Absolutely Brilliant!

NOTE: This review is for the JAPANESE version of Pokemon Yellow. The content in the box may vary depending on region, but don't count on it.

All right to start off with, for a secondhand, the Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition (JP) came in almost flawless condition, which was quite shocking for something that old.

On to the product itself, the complete package consists of:
-1x Pokemon Yellow Cardboard Box
-1x Pokemon Yellow Manual & Instruction Booklet
-1x Official Kanto Map Poster (It comes folded, obviously)
-1x Plastic cartridge case
-1x Pokemon Yellow Cartridge
You may also get a leaflet with ads in it.

Aside from the game itself, the contents are pretty cool. The manual contains pretty much everything you need to know when starting your first Pokemon game, which is quite handy. This, however, is not my first Pokemon game so I didn't really need it. Also, my Japanese reading skills aren't nearly half as good as they should be to fully understand the manual, so I'm afraid I can't really describe it further.

The bundled Kanto map is pretty neat. It is printed on a special piece of parchment which ensures that the creases don't actually result in any of the ink coming off, so when ironed out, it's good as new. The size, however, is questionable. If I recall correctly, it is slightly bigger than a standard A4 piece of paper. There is little to no Japanese text so for someone importing it (like myself), this shouldn't be a problem.

Onto the actual game: I'll start this bit off by saying that for a game made in 1994-1995 (again, the JP version), this game is really as good as Gameboy games get. It and the other two Gameboy Pokemon games (Red and Blue) are the only Gameboy games with progress-saving capabilities, as far as I know. Your save is stored onto the cartridge's RAM, and when the cart is pulled out of the Gameboy, there is a battery in the cartridge which does the job of ensuring the RAM isn't reset, preserving your save. The issue here is that once your battery's dead, so is your save. When you turn it on, you'll have the option to start a new game but you wouldn't be able to save until you get your battery replaced. I got my hands on this game in September of 2012, and I'm surprised the previous owner's save is still on there. I'm not sure when the battery was last replaced (if it was at all), and this is worrying me as I am uncomfortable with the idea of starting a new game under the possibility that it could get erased at any moment.

When the game is started up, you are greeted with a fairly short into of Pikachu running across your screen. This game follows the standard Pokemon RPG template: obtain Pokedex, collect Pokemon, beat gym leaders, beat Pokemon League; but of course, the magic in this one lies in the fact that Pokemon Yellow is a GEN I game, the generation that started it all. Another neato about this game is its Gameboy Colour-enhanced features which basically means you are able to play this on a Gameboy Colour IN colour. Overall, I found playing this game very fun despite it being 2012 now, and the standards for video games has risen incredibly over the past decade. I was able to look past the games flaws (which really were all due to technological limitations back in the day, eg. saving onto RAM and relying on a battery, limited storage space on the cart (less sprites), etc.)
I would advise anyone who can get their hands on it to do so as soon as possible, as it's getting increasingly rare.
