Best DS Pokémon Gen

Pokémon Black is one of the best in the series. Very ambitious in terms of plot, monsters, and setting. Game Freak took a chance by keeping all catchable Pokémon in the first half of the game region exclusive. There is many different opinions on the monster designs, but I am a fan of many of them (Serperior, Chandelure, Volcarana...), and appreciate how this design choice makes for a unique adventure. A hidden gem of a title

This game is peak Gamefreak design. Not is the story actually thought provoking, but it also doesn't grind the game to a halt. Plus it's got just enough exploration to keep you busy without being tedious to go back or find stuff. And the cherry on top?

The game is challenging without being grindy and unfun. A shame the fans didn't like it, and now legit copies are priced like rare artifacts. But if you can get it at a good price I'd recommend it.Read full review...

An updated Pokemon experience for newcomers and fans of the series alike.

I first played pokemon on my gameboy back when Pokemon Yellow Version came out. Since then I have played Pokemon Diamond Version and looked into various other versions of the game. Pokemon Black is the latest edition with more of what you've come to expect from the series with some new additions.

The characters, surroundings, and graphics as a whole are improved (especially if played on a newer DS, but look acceptable on an older model as well). No longer are the pokemon just static images during battles, they are now animated and react to certain battle situations (such as closing their eyes when put to sleep).

The story is typical fare for the series, as your character (boy or girl) goes throughout the land collecting the new pokemon of the game and battling against the efforts of Team Plasma, a group out to liberate all pokemon by stealing them from their trainers. No real surprises here, though I'm only about ten hours into the game (a portion of which has been spent leveling as always). I have noticed the gym leaders play a more important role in assisting you in the story rather than simply standing around inside their respective gyms awaiting your challenge.

If you haven't played a Pokemon game in a long time and want to or if you've played every one of them up to this point, you'll definitely want to get onboard with this game. There's a lot here for new players and more of what you enjoy for fans of the series. I personally care little about Pokemon lore, TV show, card games, and nor can I name all however many Pokemon this new game brings the total to, but as an RPG it provides a solid bit of exploration, discovery, level grinding, and battle customization that I can enjoy the game without any outside knowledge.Read full review...

Extremely Happy!

I bought this on impulse, not knowing whether or not it'll work. After receiving and putting it into my 3DS, the icon loaded up and the game runs smoothly! I'm so happy to have it since this was actually my favorite generation and I regretted not getting this version and it's sequel alongside my copies of White and White 2. Something fun and distracting

Well, I can't really give this an excellent rating as I was rather... disappointed from some of the pokemon. Really? A trashbag? Obviously they're running out of ideas... I'm sure the fanbase would have better ones than a trasbag and such. Also, most of them are based on real animals now... very distinctly.

However! The game itself is fun (if you can ignore some disappointing pokemon) and the new graphics... they're fun! It's nothing like horribly special that wow you the whole way through.. but it's fun and interesting and keeps attention - at least mine!

I'm not done with the story yet, but it's an amusing get away from the real world and the humanitarian part of the plot is slightly... odd and out of place... but it's nice - different than 'take over the world!'

So, yes, I recommend it... if you don't mind some fighting trashbags.Read full review...

I was raised with older siblings in the 90's who loved pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow. Needless to say I believed those games were the best and they shouldn't make new games and change them for the newer generation. However, I have three young siblings and I'm a babysitter, so I was constantly answering "Where's the 5th gym?" "How do you get through this cave?" "Why can't I catch him?" and so on. I broke down and bought a DS ($80) and Pokemon Black ($30). After making fun of the new pokemon and their names, I actually got really, really interested in it. I love the ability to trade internationally with anyone, C-Gear communication, and especially being able to catch/trade for all the older pokemon from previous games after you defeat the Elite Four! I can't say which pokemon game is better, since they're so different, but I can say that out of all the current and popular DS games I would much rather play Pokemon Black. There are some different pokemon in Black than White, but it's fine cause you can trade for whatever you can't catch and for Zorua and Zoroark. I highly recommend this game for almost any age, It's easy to understand and follow with a surprisingly fantastic story line and has just the right amount of challenging parts. It keeps you focused (and quiet) and gets you excited every time you play. The DS and the game itself, brand new, are cheaper than any used system and a popular game for it. My older and younger siblings can all relate and reminisce about the games. I think every friendship my siblings and I ever had actually started with Pokemon, like one of my little brothers said "But everyone has the new Pokemon game!! Can I have a DS for Christmas too?". Sooo many things to do!

Pokemon Black is the best game of the Pokemon series of older games. There are so many things to do I have to keep notes. I have been playing Pokemon for 20 years and have always found the gym challenges too easy but in Black I was surprised when I almost couldn't beat the very 1st gym leader. Wow!
