Neat enhancement but left much to be desired

As much as I want to dismiss Pokemon X and Y for minor gripes such as a weakened story and repetitive online play, this is the most technically advanced Pokemon game to date in terms of total Pokemon, movepools, type combinations, items (note to mega-stones), abilities and all the other competitive aspects introduced in gen III; the 3D Pokemon models are also gorgeous. This combined with the fact that battles and trades can be found almost instantly make for a very accessible and challenging game; the reason battles are so challenging and engaging is that there is a high degree of strategy and predicting the opponent's next move. Consequently, the central game is short and almost completely unmemorable by comparison. It's a very cool game in terms of technical and visual aspects (at least on the battlefield) and experience battling with trainers from all over the world but if you're looking for a more casual and nostalgic experience, this one is far less memorable than others in the franchise. Though this is my longest played game on the 3DS exceeding hours in the hundreds, I've lost near all interest in continuing because of a desire to return to games that challenge me in other facets like reflex and adventuring which I can enjoy more but for its time it was a good experience. However, I truly feel that the 3DS library is full of titles that are more enjoyable than this and Pokemon Y as battling Pokemon with Pokemon can only take one so far.Read full review...

Good replacement

This was a lifesaver when I originally lost my Pokemon X game so it made a perfect replacement. The game functions as it should with no issues. No problems with saving or using the wi-fi features.

Someone take me back to...when did this whole poketrap start again?

This game has reawakened my love for Pokemon. I haven't played any of the games since the Gameboy Color generation until this year. I tried Pokemon Black and was not exactly thrilled by the gameplay. Then I bought Pokemon X pretty much the day it came out for no real good reason. Turns out, I can't stop playing the game. It's everything you could ever want in a Pokemon game. Unlike Pokemon Black, I actually enjoyed being part of this game's story. The actual gameplay has the same pattern as every pokemon game before it. You get a pokemon, you catch some pokemon, you battle 8 gym leaders, you stop the bad guys from ruining pokemon for everyone, you find a legendary pokemon, you fight the elite four, you fight the champion, credits roll. The most noticeable improvement would be the adding of another dimension, bringing the total to three. Honestly, I would say not to worry about playing any other Pokemon games until they add yet another dimension or two.

It's Pokemon, what are you expecting? It's got a french professor, you can change your clothes and hair style, pokemon breeding is now completely in your control, you can run diagonally, you have roller skates in addition to the bicycle, the game runs a lot faster then Pokemon Black, saving is basically instant. You don't run into 2 pokemon at once, only 5, and they're low level. There's not much to dislike or complain about in terms of it being a Pokemon game, what is missing? Nothing, it's the perfect Pokemon game, you can do anything now.Read full review...

Pokemon 4ever :)

I like handheld portable games the most because you can take them out on real-life adventures into nature, or even just around the city while you are moving your body and being active. Pokemon is especially inspiring in this regard. I first played the original red-blue/yellow version when I was 9 years old, and the enchantment remains in these new versions. Too simple, unoriginal, but fun as always!

The game is fun and has great graphics, but lacks creativity when it comes to the enemy team you face and how you recieve items and HMs to progress the story. Everything is mostly just handed to you and than you are pushed somewhere else. Additionally a lot of the pokemon are just from Kanto so it doesnt feel completely original.
