Nostalgic Perfection on Disney DVD

This is what DisneyDVD should be!

Not only is this classic live-action Disney film beautifully restored and brought to DVD format, the "Vault Disney Collection" format has created a modern masterpiece, combining 21st Century technology with timeless Disney storytelling.

Disc One includes the restored film of "Pollyanna", along with audio commentary from Hayley Mills and director David Swift.

In particular, Disc Two is worth the full price of admission for this set. "Pollyanna: Making of a Masterpiece" does a wonderful job of revealing Walt Disney's soft spot for nostalgia and the memories of youth. Walt Disney was much more than a "brand name". He was a respected member of his community and was devoted to a family he truly cherished. Also included here is "Re-creating Pollyanna's America"; and "1912". Providing the background for this important story is half the fun of this DVD. The "Lost Treasures" section includes Walt Disney's original TV introductions, which set him apart as television's most beloved personality in the 1950's and 60's. Also included are Production Archives for the film, and the "1960 Disney Studio Album" (video scrapbook) combine for an unforgettable DVD experience.

Congratulations to those responsible for creating the "Vault Disney Collection" DVDs. Walt would be proud!

Pollyanna

What's not to like? I love this film. I love the setting and the clothes. Even the town and the general era are like a brand-new Disneyland. Have you seen the size of those cakes for the fair? What little girl in the 50s and 60s didn't want to be Hayley Mills? A young Karl Malden is wonderful as the preacher - full of doubt and passion. The reclusive Agnes Moorhead and stiff Jane Wyman, as well as most of the cast are well-know talents and great to re-experience. This movie is timeless. Full of simple childhood joys mixed in with larger complex adult issues, as well as triumph in adversity without too heavy a hand. There is distrust, intimidation, love, loss, pain, social disharmony, the role of church and power of money; and heartbreak. None of these can stand up to the charm of Hayley Mills' innocent wisdom, and the viewer won't remember any of them. The viewer will remember cakes as big as a drum, and climbing trees, new clothes, and finding the colors of the rainbow. Hayley Mills delights us throughout. She will always be Pollyanna. No child should grow up without this and Disney's Summer Magic. Treat yourself.Read full review...

Pollyanna

... a movie I hadn't seen since my single digits. It was seeing through whole different eyes. I love the characters played, the thought processes... the old world aspect of the production. The simplicity of a life that once was.. the way things were built and the vibrant color of the movie... much different than I remembered as a child, but still, very entertaining, and engaging. A good story.Read full review...

An Orphan comes to town and help people learn how to be happy

A young, orphan girl comes to town. If I recall correctly she stays with a maiden aunt, who really doesn’t want to have anything to do with her. Pollyanna goes around helping people be happy and the town which was mundane becomes the abode of happy people. She takes i’ll and the Doctor determines she must go, by train, to hospital where surgery can performed to save her life. The whole town comes to see her off, all of them had become happier because of her, even her aunt. It’s a tear jerker and remembering how she, an orphan, had helped them to learn how to be happy. A beautifully moving surprise of a movie. Among Disney's best.

I expected a Disney movie titled: ' Pollyanna' to be a typically entertaining, sweet family film, of the type Uncle Walt produced in the late 50s-early 60s. Entertaining, but standard fluff. WRONG! This is a movie which is full of beautiful, moving, and surprising depth. I can't believe this was ever green lit by the same man who brought you The Parent Trap and Flubber. Both good movies but this is something else. I love Disney movies of this period, when Walt Disney was personally still involved in at least the bigger decisions as to what bore his name above the title, but this is a stand out. This is a movie for kids, yes, but the messages are for mature adults as well. I went in expecting little from this movie and was simply overwhelmed. A beautifully crafted film. Highly recommended.Read full review...

Pollyanna is the Best of Disney

Pollyanna. 💙 Best movie ever! (And Summer Magic) saw them both when originally released! I loved the entire story, especially the dresses/ wardrobe of that era! The magic of Pollyanna breaking through even crusty old Agnes Moorehead’s character is so uplifting! Be a “Glad Girl” to spread love & light.

When Summer Magic was released & my little gf’s & I saw it — my mom bought the soundtrack record for me. My gf’s spent the entire summer dancing & singing every song over and over! ( I still can sing them all)
Then I grew up, had a little girl & introduced her to the the “Glad Girl”, Ugly Bug Ball & the wonders of Disney & Hayley Mills. Repeat performance for her & her little friends—little kids/girls still love it!
And now I have a granddaughter! Again to this third generation of love for Pollyanna, Summer Magic & Hayley Mills! I remember wondering if I could change MY name to Hayley after I saw all her movies!
Still makes me smile 🥰
I have all her movies to share with my little granddaughter!

Pollyanna is wonderful!

I grew up on Disney films and Pollyanna was my favorite. I’ve lived my whole life playing the “Glad Game” (I call it the grateful game). I wish all children and adults would watch and appreciate the simple message of this wonderful film too!Read full review...

Best children's movie - ever!

The cast is great. the costumes were accurate, the town's people were delightful. You've gotta love the preacher. Not exactly faithful to the book but in my mind they were so thoughtful in the script, you cared about everyone. This is one movie that isn't the plastic phony junk Disney loves to put out today. This is a one of a kind.Read full review...
