Prison Break - Season 4

The final season of Prison Break brought about another complete change of direction for the series. There are no prisons to break out of, and nobody to run from – the Fox River and Sona escapees instead focus their efforts in bringing down the Company by retrieving a device known as Scylla. With the beginning of every one of its four seasons, Prison Break metamorphosed itself into something completely new and unexpectedWith the breathtaking escape from Sona from season three, the writers wisely chose to transform the prison drama into a straightforward action series with a singular focus: to capture the Company's most critical cog - Scylla. The former inmates are forced to work together as a team to get their hands on Scylla, under the supervision of a Homeland Security agent named Don Self.Self supplied the team with intelligence and it was up to Scofield to get this rag-tag band of former inmates to work together. There were some significant casualties along the way. Some noble sacrifices, some characters met the fates they deserved, and some deaths were more perplexing – especially those at the very beginning of the season.Towards the end, when it was clear that the series was ending, there were even more character deaths. While you could argue that not everyone who deserved to die got what was coming to them there were some characters who seemed to outlive their welcome by the end.In addition to the storyline change, we're also introduced to a new regular character this season – Agent Don Self. Self is the agent who gets this group together and puts them to task to get a hold of Scylla. He's a bit of a jack, and rubs everyone the wrong way.Without giving much away, he ends up playing a pivotal role in one of the best, least expected and most clever swerves we've seen in the entire run of the series. It's one of those fantastic television moments that turns everything on its head, and unfortunately, it's so good of a twist that the rest of the season pales in comparison. There's plenty of motivation to keep watching though. Other characters that play a prominent role in the latter half of the season include General Krantz and Scofield's mother, Christina. While the General was far more interesting when he didn't talk, Christina is a fascinating character whose true motivations were hard to pin down until the very end.The chase for Scylla took the team from Los Angeles for the first half of the season to Miami for the final episodes. The Miami episodes were not cerebral by any stretch. There were plenty of implausible scenarios and questionable character decisions. The show really started to lose its legs toward the end, but made up for it with a well thought out original denouement featuring some excellent closing moments for most of the characters. There were plenty of surprises along the way, and a jump to the future ending that seemed a little too bittersweet at first, but grows on you with time. It's another rollercoaster ride for these memorable characters, and season four gives you the chance to say goodbye to some very compelling personalities. T-Bag, Mahone, Scofield, and to some extent Sucre will definitely be remembered as some of the more fascinating television characters we've seen in recent years. As has always been the case with Prison Break, if you're willing to turn off your brain and just enjoy the characters and the outlandish predicaments they face –there are plenty of hours of entertainment to be had in this closing season.Read full review...

A satisfying end to a thrilling series

I was a definitely heartbroken to see this thrilling show come to an end. I was always on the edge of my seat as I watched each episode. I admit that I wasn't sure whether they could continue to come up with plausible story lines to keep this show going and have it still remain true to its original premise, but I believe they managed to do just that. The characters were so masterfully created that you either loved or loved to hate each and every one of them. And what made the show so nail-biting is that none of them were safe and could meet his or her demise at any time. Each episode was like watching a mini action movie due to all the twists & turns of the plots and the big-budget feel of the sets/locations. Whether you enjoy watching puzzles unfold, such as Michael's master plan to take down the company and clear their names, character interactions, and there were plenty of those, or just a good old-fashioned action series this is a great show with a satisfying (although somewhat predictable) end.Read full review...

Good time to end it

It’s a good time for this series to end as it was getting a bit tedious with everything focused on “the company”. The ending was satisfying while quite unlikely.

Excellent, well cast, plot-driven series.

Great show. Action and plot. Better than 24 in many ways. Cast is well chosen; you even feel some empathy for the bad guys! Plot driven, but plenty of action.
