Escovedo might want to be an animal, but he is too poetic to be wild.
I bought this CD because some time ago (3-4 years) I saw Alejandro Escovedo on T.V. and he sang a song that stuck in my head like a grass burr sticks to dog fur. Just bits and pieces of the song would float to the surface of my memory and i would think, "I need to get that album." And then forget it. After going in circles for 3 years, I finally got frustrated enough to actually run the album down on eBay. Bought it and have enjoyed the entire album ever since. He has such a magical voice and amazing writing talent, that every track holds a special place in my heart. The song "Sister Lost Soul" is the song that nagged me all those years and now I can enjoy the whole song instead of little pieces of it. Real Animal is the Real Thing! 5 solid gold stars! Alejandro always meets all of my expectations & this new one is as good as he gets!!! He always brings something new to the table & this time more backup singers & his lyrics are so real & relatable for a recovering Alcoholic & Addict like myself.....He really takes you emotionally to some painful places!!Read full review...
