Almost Great

Four stars is for a well made speaker which can really put out. The fact they don't ship to Canada is rediciulous from our perspective because we are unable to take advantage of sales etc. On the other hand, the kind gentleman I contacted to purchase the carry bag sent it to me absolutely FREE. You can't beat that.

My only design niggle appears to have been fixed on the new models and this has to do with the power switch. It is a non-recessed In/Out button which can accidentally be pressed while inside the carry bag, although I'm not certain if this automatically leads to battery drain. It was an odd choice for a power switch considering the more sophisticated proximity sensor for the top buttons.

I Hope Riva finds a way to be more responsive to email messages and in general acknowledging customers who take the time to communicate and show an interest in the company....not a healthy thing to orphan customers.

Anyway, you probably won't be disappointed with this speaker and keep in mind that placement makes the difference between meh and Wow!

Sound quality superb, but unit did not work correctly

The sound quality itself was excellent, but volume was nothing without Turbo and varied wildly from song to song. I have a $39 speaker that was overall louder with good sound quality. My unit was defective though. Also had a problem with battery life - battery just didn't last as it should have, volume variances were also due to this, isn't supposed to work that way.Read full review...

Excellent sound, that’s it

I had charging issues from day 1 when bought new in ‘15, however RIVA Audio quickly made good and also included carry case!
Today, 12/21, it still charges/ holds charge and works fine. I see many refurbished units to work with power only. Depending on your needs regarding power this is a great speaker for under $100 today, imo.
19vdc power requirement makes it need a cumbersome adapter though.
Side by side with a newcomer from Trulli Audio the RIVA clearly sounds much fuller. Both weigh right at 3 lbs
That said, I don’t like it’s power on/off routine and having to enable interface by first having it detect your hand motion near it.
We once used its line in aux for a TV sound “bar” and the sound was incredible.
For me it’s a bit too big for carry on travel but fine for road trip hotels etc.

riva vs bose

My brother owns a Bose Bluetooth. Did a side by side and both agreed the Riva had fuller sound. Both sounded excellent at lower volumes, Riva had the edge when volume pushed to the limit.i
