Bronson does a nice job of bringing Crusoe to life

This is a nice remake of William DeFoe's classic novel. From an entertainment perspective, Pierce Brosnon is always pleasant in any role. From a social justice perspective (and no, I'm not an SJW, but in this case even SJW's have to make this observation), it goes without saying that DeFoe's novel hasn't aged well, though in this movie, Brosnon makes great effort to highlight and build upon those (rare) portions in the novel where the Robinson Crusoe character begins to cherish his friendship with Friday. From a survival-realism perspective, having a single character wash up on shore, the only survivor, and be able to build such an elaborate homestead with such elaborate comforts is highly unrealistic ("Cast Away" is a much more realistic presentation). However, from a pure-escapism perspective (which is what movies are all about), who doesn't wish, these days, to escape to a remote tropical paradise, surrounded by ocean, with all of the best material comforts, and no neighbors to bother you except the incredibly helpful, and interesting, man Friday?Read full review...

A Good Film

It's an ok movie. Pierce Brosnan's attempt at a Scottish accent is rough (should have gone without) and the direction is lacking much power, creativity, or romanticism but it is a good/timeless shipwreck story.Read full review...

Robinson Crusoe

Filmed on location in Papua New Guinea. It is the story of an Englishman shipwrecked on a sacrificial tribal island who saves and befriends a man who was going to be killed. Pretty accurate to the book, a good drama.Read full review...

Not what I expected...

Not what I expected, it concentrates more on the battle between the savages and Crusoe, I would rather like to see his survival skills on the island but its an ok movie. I enjoyed older versions of better.Read full review...
