Excellent Multipurpose Multiplayer Game

There's not much I can say against Rock Band 1. (And most of that was dealt with in the sequel.)

Much like Guitar Hero or Kareoke Revolution before it, RB is a game about performing music, pure and simple. (Well, and putting together a world-famous band using your skills, but isn't that the whole point really?)

The selection of artists could've been a bit wider, I felt, but the DLC more than makes up for that. In addition, for owners of both Rock Band and its sequel, you can unlock almost every song for play on Rock Band 2. Added bonus, since it adds to the playability of the sequel (unlike some games, where if you want songs from a different version, you have to switch games altogether).

The controls may seem unrealistically hard to begin with for novice players, but practice and patience is usually the key. It is, after all, primarily a music and rhythm game. (Unless you're vocalist. Then it's a pitch and rhythm game.)

Rock Band (game only) Xbox 360,2007

The graphics are real good. The flexibility of choices for characters and songs are good. It's easy to follow along due to the matching color coding to the instruments. It has the ability for up to 4 players to play at once which is cool. The best feature is being able to download other songs and therefore customize it. It is also compatible with Rock Band 2 instruments so you can keep the original ones or get the newer ones and still enjoy it. This makes it good for all abilities to enjoy it and to improve on it.Read full review...

Rock Band (Xbox 360)

Graphics 9.0
The graphics in this game really stand out as top of the line for the year of 2007. Graphics easily blow by rival Guitar Hero franchise. There are some morphing of som eof the characters long hair going into their shoulders. The venues are very good looking with no downsides at all. The instruments look absolutely amazing with their realism.

Gameplay 9.5
Gameplay in this game also blows by the Guitar Hero franchise as well. Why play with two like Guitar Hero when you can play with four with Rock Band. Their is the different variety with the all new drums and microphone. The downsides on the drums are they can get very loud when playing but that can be fixed by buying the drum silencers.

Song Set List 10.0
The songs on this game are amazing. They have a great variety and a lot of songs. They also jump into the new era of music by adding a lot of modern songs which previous music games have failed to do. They also so mix in songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's.

Truly groundbreaking in both premise and execution!

Gameplay: 9.5
Truly groundbreaking in both premise and execution, Rock Band is as close as you can get to really being on stage. With unique gameplay mechanics for each instrument (vocals, guitar, bass, and drums), Rock Band offers up several different ways to play, but the real meat of the game comes from the four player co-op modes, particularly the co-op World Tour.

Graphics: 8.5
The game has a great presentation with clean menus, and a smooth framerate. The activity going on in the background is a step above what you see on Guitar Hero III, with cool effects and more animated crowds and venues.

Sound: 9.0
While the few cover versions throughout the tracklist sound a bit off, they are few and far between in Rock Band, as the game boasts an impressive number of original master recordings, which sound as good now as when they first hit the airwaves.

Difficulty: Medium

Concept: 9.5
Rock Band turns the genre on its head, offering a highly polished rhythm game that stands as the quintessential testament to all of the progress that the genre has made over the past few years and allowing you to rock as never before.

Multiplayer: 9.5
Allowing you rock out with 3 friends across several different instruments is a fantastic notion for the rhythm-game genre, and Rock Band carries it in brand new directions. There are even some competitive modes in the mix to let you duke it out with a friend. The only downer is the lack of an online multiplayer World Tour.

Overall: 9.3
Rock Band is the next step in the rhythm game genre and the party game genre, effectively melding the two into an innovative package. While the build quality of the bundled peripherals feels a little flimsy and the whole thing is a bit pricey for many gamers’ budgets, the game is a wholehearted recommendation for any fan of music-based games.

Solid game with greats songs that lacks a little finish

Its never easy being fair to a game when you play the 2nd edition 1st, which is what I did in the case of Rock Band. Having said that, the song choices are good, and the graphics are descent. The game play is a little linear in that you have to finish all the song of one city before moving on, where in edition 2, you can bounce around cities as they open up. The actually song playing is about the same between versions, but the menus and presentation are are definitely not as polished as Rock Band 2. I bought it because I liked the song repitoire, but if your looking to buy a version of Rock Band, start with RB2.Read full review...

Rock Band By IGN

Presentation
Simply amazing. The Band World Tour offers a fantastic new take on a career mode for a music game. The on-stage antics are above and beyond anything from Guitar Hero.

Graphicsr>The character models are nice and the 40+ venues have excellent detail.

Sound
Some of the 45 tracks offered are really not that great. But everything sounds good and having the crowd signing songs with you is an awesome experience.

Gameplay
There's no doubt that many of the guitar sections are meant for a more casual audience. The drums and vocals make up for this though. Band World Tour is solid.

Lasting Appeal
There are only 45 licensed tracks, and not all of them are great songs. But the BWT has legs and the upcoming downloadable content should extend the lifespan considerably.Read full review...

Rock Band Game for Microsoft Xbox 360

What I love about this game is that it never gets old or boring. There are 4 different careers the play through, guitar, base, drums, and microphone. Even once you beat that you can play online using xbox live against or with real people. You can also create a band by using xbox live or using one console and play through the whole world. Rock band will give you lots of enjoyment and fun.Read full review...

Great Party Game

Getting a handful of friends together around the Xbox with this game, some adult beverages and food, and you have a recipe for a great time. I have spent countless hours on this game, wether it was at Rock Band parties, or by myself playing through the tour.

My only problem with this game is that you are forced to play songs you might not want to play in order to progress, although those issues are addressed in Rock Band 3. Now that RB3 is out, RB1 is essentially a big track pack, and there is a lot of good music here.

Great game

I bought this game after I had a chance to play it with some friends. There are quite a few GREAT songs plus you also have the choice of purchasing more from XBOX Live. I use the drums and guitar but I don't have the voice to use the microphone. You can also customize your character with different hair styles, clothing, tattoos..... etc. It is a really GREAT game and fun and challenging. I also have heard of people criticizing this game saying that it isn’t a real guitar or drum set (I think that is obvious since I don’t know of a place where you can buy a guitar , drum set and microphone for around $150.00). This is a game and supposed to be fun, and if this gets kids or adults interested in playing a real instrument then that would be a good thing. I guess this could be an alternative for kids that had their schools cut out their music classes. I give it and excellent rating.Read full review...
