Very very good value

It’s entry level quality for almost half the price. Forget the brand names and give it a try. Auto on/off works perfectly, doesn’t hum at all and goes impressively low.

Ok but you get what you pay for

Bought this to replace a 12yr old 8" sub that was only 250w. My system pushes enough wattage for the 400 but it's just cheap quality sound. There's no kick or punch or booms or bass and it's just a droning hum all the time. Have played with settings for hours to make it reasonable but there's a reason it's cheap.

Also the auto on/off is terrible. It's nice not having to manually flip the switch on the back each time for off/on but the auto constantly goes off and on. If a movie gets quiet then it shuts off and there's a 2-3 second delay before it turns on and is an abrupt annoyance when a scene needs the bass. My old sub with auto on/off did not do this. It shut off when the receiver did and stayed on when it was on, which this one should do.

It'll do the job but you'll get better performance out of the tiny subs that usually come in soundbar kits. I'm pretty disappointed in this and would recommend buying something better.

Inexpensive Beast!

Everything worked as expected. This is a small front firing ported subwoofer. I'm using it a 2.1 setup with a pair of monoprice speakers. It is perfect for the setup and I'm thrilled with the added sound dimension from the sub. Its perfect for a smaller space like a bedroom, office or small living room. As long as the amp holds up I will continue to sing the praises of this speaker. Packaging was solid and it arrived in one piece. I will definitely consider buying another one when the need arises.Read full review...

It's okay.

Like every other 'cheap' subwoofer I have ever heard it comes to no surprise that it 'hums'. To correct that the volume has to be turned down to compensate. The 'auto off' works every now and then. On the plus side, it doesn't sound bad at all. I use it in my bedroom on the little set up I have in there. Overall, you get what you pay for. Despite the little things, I'm happy with it.Read full review...

Great powered sub

This is exactly the same model I've had since I was 25-30, I'm now over 65 and unfortunately with all the apartment moves during my life, I lost it out of a storage unit about 10 years ago. Used to be called a Sony. It goes with my old Sony K-750P 575W stereo I've had for all that time. Had to replace the surround and front L/R speakers with DaytonAudio 6" two-ways, which was fine until I realized I can't do true 5.1 optical without a sub. Now that I've upgraded to the latest XBox, I want true 5.1 back, and the Sony amp requires a powered sub. My old one NEVER hummed, after 25+ years of use. Sure, the old stuff takes more electricity than the new stuff, but like an old tube Fender, or a turntable with Led Zep on vynyl, sometimes you can't beat the old stuff.......Read full review...

Big boom..Low price

Would have rated 5 stars...if there was a dedicated LFE INPUT. Sounds great.
I was also fortunate enough to get almost half off...with an open box purchase.
Excellent deal.

Wishful thinking

I am really at a loss after having this sub for maybe 3 months and hardly any use, all of the sudden out of nowhere just sounds horrible like it’s blown or a short. Anyone else have any problems with the 8in sub? I usually have no quarrel with Rockville equipment as a whole, it’s affordable great sounding speakers and units. So glad I got the warranty with it..
It sounded awesome until now

Rockville rocks

Very good value, it was new “open box” so a little scuffed up and a loose part but serviceable for my modest needs.
