It's an acquired taste but, well worth savoring

When I first heard anything from Soul Coughing, it was on an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head. The song "Down To This" lingered in my head from then on. It was so catchy, I decided to purchase it. This is a great CD to own if you like the fusion of jazz, rock, and hip-hop. My favorite tracks on the album are "Casiotone Nation", "Blueeyed Devil", "Screenwriter's Blues", and "Uh, Zoom Zip". The spoken word/rap/vocals of M. Doughty are proof that he is a true musical genius. It is a shame the band's debut album was overlooked in a year of grunge and gangsta rap. Overall, the album is good. Out of the fourteen tracks, eleven are solid, and the filler ain't too shabby. This is truly a treasure to unearth.Read full review...

Some damn good music

I liked this CD because I've always liked to unusual style of music Soul Coughing has put out. It's unique like Primus is. They have many songs that initially sound dischordant and disconnected, but as I listen I find the style grows on me. Also, in songs such as "Bus to Beezelbub," a piece of music that we've all heard (The piece of classical music was used in this song was used in Bugs Bunny cartoons) is given a new twist and a new life.Read full review...
