A lot of charm & relaxed pace make for a plesent J-RPG experience.

This game has a long introduction and takes some time to really get started, but is an interesting and addicting experience. My wife loves it, which prompted me to get it for her, and I have since started a game of my own. From what I have seen the combat is drastically improved over previous versions, with more automation with the farming; leaving you more time to wander about and explore, or make friends in the local town. Perfect game for younger audiences or a wife/girlfriend who is interested in gaming.

This game is, however, fairly repetitive and uses a combination of dungeon crawling, farming and social interaction as it's primary gameplay elements so it isn't for the more thrill seeking audience.

Amazing I love it!!

I received the game on time, when I checked out the CD it was perfect no scratches or buffs. Works like a dream. The game is super fun. It's like harvest Moon but a little better and way more fun.

Rune Factory, tod, Great game.

Always something to do or just fish the day away and talk to town folks. Lots of monsters to fight as you wish or cook or build toys, furniture, medicines, foods just do what you want as you want and skip the rest. Town folks will help along the way with errands to run, for which you receive payment, and they help you find the places you need to go. Would greatly recommend.Read full review...

Even Better Than RF: Frontier!

While it may be true that sequels oftentimes improve in the video gaming world, I was very skeptical that Tides of Destiny would be able to topple its nearly perfect predecessor "Frontier". Turns out, I didn't know how good this game could be...

POSITIVES:

+++ GORGEOUS GRAPHICS - RF: Frontier throughly impressed me with it's graphics and somehow, Tides was even better. I appreciate how even the smallest details are attended to from the shadows moving when the sun sets to the architecture in the towns. The anime-like characters are very well animated too which really helps engross you in the game.

+++ SOUNDS - Similar to its predecessor, the sounds, particularly the ambient sounds, are excellent. Everything from someone saying 'hi' as you walk by, to the sounds of the water hitting the shore, you feel like you're part of the world.

+++ LOTS TO DO - Exploring the ocean, finding treasure, battling monsters and taming them, wooing a wife, haggling at the marketplace, cooking, forging equipment, accepting quests... And, that's just scratching the surface.

+++ IMPROVEMENTS OVER FRONTIER - (See the list below, as this is a whole other list of positives)...

--- NEGATIVES ---

--- OVERWHELMING - It's nice to have lots to keep you busy, but at times, it can get a bit overwhelming. Those with short attention spans will have trouble focusing on just one thing at a time when you have at least half-a-dozen tasks to accomplish...

--- LONG START - As with most of these types of games, it took a good hour to get into the game far enough that I was on my own. I suppose, given the fact that there's SO much to do, it's inevitable that a tutorial will take long. I do, however, like how one of the girls was my tour guide and taught me the basics for my adventure.

*** IMPROVEMENTS OVER RUNE FACTORY: FRONTIER ***

+ 15 save slots instead of 3. AND, you can pick your save slot so it doesn't automatically save over your previous game. A BIG improvement!

+ Loading time is MUCH shorter. In fact, when you go from scene to scene, the typical 3-6 second wait from Frontier has been reduced to about 1-2 seconds (or less).

+ The balancing of runes in each area has been eliminated. Some may see this as a negative, but I feel it's a nice cut. It was VERY tedious and troublesome to keep Runes balanaced on a daily basis over 10 different areas.

+ 3-D perspective is GREATLY improved. In Frontier, you had a fixed camera angle. Now, you can walk in a 360 spin around areas, which gives the game a bit more depth

+ Voice actors did a good job (with one or two exceptions). The girls seem to have more personality in their tones and it helps draw you into the story a bit more.

+ The added 'quests' feature is an excellent idea. It give the game more of an adventure weight in addition to the simulaton/farming genre.

+ More to explore. While Frontier had 5 basic cave areas to battle and conquer - there's now a vast ocean to roam. More fights, more action that the original as well.

Now, I'm only a few days into this game, so I've only scratched the surface as to what Tides of Destiny has to offer. But, I had high expectations for this game (based on its predecessor) and so far, I'm throughly impressed. For only $40, you'll have hours of RPG/Simulation enjoyment!

If you're a Harvest Moon fan, odds are this will knock your socks off!

More then expected

I was very surprised of the game play I can't wait to get into the story more. I'm a little disappointed that I can't play as a girl, but I can live with that.

Solid game.

Do you like Zelda games? Do you like harvest moon games? Do like games or anime that is a slice of life? If yes to any 2 of these you will definitely enjoy the game.

Excellent game. My daughter enjoys it very much

This is an excellent game. It was well made and very exciting. All Factory Rune games are very challenging and gets you thinking about what happens next. If you have not played any Factory Rune games I suggest that you do, you will enjoy them very much. The graphics are excellent and very advanced. The story line is great and the programming (software) is well done.Read full review...
