Socom: Combined Assault

Like: Missions, Weapons, objectives, sound effects, tactics. This game has a large variety Of weapons and tactics, you can also modify the weapons and add different accessories and attachments to it. The maps are amazing and realistic and the sound effects are great.
Ive played every socom and so far this one is my favorite for offline play (Campaign mode).

Dislike: During online play there is sometimes problems with the connection "lagging"

Thank you for taking the time to read this and
I hope this review was helpful in your decision making.

Folks, They have done it Again!!!!

If you loved the last three SOCOM Games, you will surely love this one. The gameplay is really pretty much the same as the last one, but I think there are more missions in this one. The graphics are just as good as SOCOM 3. Theres a pretty good story line. The maps are great. In this one you can actually carry medical kits, so it's alot less frustrating, now you can revive your downed fireteam. You can carry armor, and extra ammo. There were several other equipment improvements from the last ones, including, teargas guns, and beanbag guns (fun to use, and help getting enemies to surrender). I was disapointed in the lack of weapon improvements, I'm not even sure that they added one new gun. The only other negative thing that I can think of is something that has been in all of the SOCOM games so far, and that is the lack of AI. Your fire team always seems to be getting stuck, running into doors, and walls. And sometimes when you tell them to throw grenades, they miss, and end up killing you. I got it for $50, after playing it, I kinda wish I waited til the price dropped down to like $30. Overall it was pretty good.Read full review...

Socom is the best

This is Zipper Interactive's sequel release after Socom 3. Combined Assault has a few changes. They took out the blood and replaced it with white smoke powder when you shoot at someone and they've redesigned all the old maps to be glitchproof except for the softspots, you can never get rid of the softspots. Another thing is they've added about 5 different new maps. I love this game, It probably is the best online game for ps2 right now. My most major problem would be that the Socom servers are sometimes messed up with server errors and disconnects in the middle of your game. But they've minimized it now I've noticed and doesn't happen too often now. All in all its a great game. Get it!Read full review...

Socom: Combined Assault

It's the last game it the SOCOM series specifically for PS2. I don't have the money nor the desire for PSP. It doesn't have as much variance and freedom in the number, uniqueness, and specifics of the commands you can give your teammates (i.e. you can't send bravo to Nav. point delta unless you have your crosshairs pointing right at it., others similar) Although, you CAN send one bravo to one spot and send the other bravo to another. that is good. it is better than all of the rest by a little bit. the graphics are a bit better and you do have a few more things that you can do in the game. it's much easier to take prisoners. rifle butts only hurt enemy, not kill instantly. overall, a slightly better game. Def. harder than all prior games.Read full review...

Socom's Successor Well Done

Socom was a hit, then came along Socom 2. This to became a hit also. Socom 3 came aboard with its vehicles and new modes online and other cool things also, A HIT. This one here, is also a hit too. Its similar to Socom 3 but it has some twists and turns for the good. Like going from a selected type of weaponry that you can pick, but you have no weight balance or anything along the lines, believe me, it does. Before that, the missions are all good. Unfortunately, our friend Boomer does die from the first mission indication. From then on, it gives you a burning desire to do a little extra more for him whether you like him or not. The missions though are very nice and well thought out. You go destroy helicopter crashes to collecting data and to those sweet little extras you can get done when and if you have a PSP or not. These little goodies are called cross talk and even in the missions themselves you can find "sausages" that you can get, to unlock little nifty things and secrets. Then the squad tactics and headset or not commands are very intuitive. With a tap of a button you can tell the team to either go hot or stay cool, or they can go to you(regroup) or actually go to crosshairs(pointing at that is) location by a simple tap or press of a button.(L2 i believe) Plus when you go to the command screen, you can say the command in mind with the USB head set like the others still. Now when you go to the screen for weapons and stuff, you can actually pick what you would like for that level. You can take a sniper or the classic M4A1. Then you have the 2 options to select which add ons you would like to have on it. Then your secondary weapon can be picked with an add on too(laser for example). Then you can pick certain types of grenades and inventory you would like to have, from extra ammo or med kits, to different grenades and scopes and others also. Then when you select it all, you have to judge that with your weight total and try to counter balance that. This game truly defines a great Socom and great all around shooter for almost any one that likes shooters.Read full review...

MUST HAVE A GAME! SOCOM !

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault Review

There have been games aplenty on the Xbox where the online multiplayer mode was like the icing on a sweet pastry while the PS2 was slightly left behind in that department. Then again, Sony and Zipper Interactive’s SOCOM series proved that the console is more than capable of giving shooting fans something to sink their teeth into and thoroughly enjoy. The franchise reached new heights with SOCOM 3, a game that brought us more of what we love about the series so you can only imagine our delight at the prospect of a fourth game in the series. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault might not be a dramatically different game for the series but the few improvements and great multiplayer experience make this a SOCOM game you should not miss.

Combined Assault has a surprisingly inventive connection to the PSP’s SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 that goes beyond its neat Crosstalk feature (more on that a bit later). For starters, both games share the same locale during the single-player campaign mode and the stories for both games interconnect with each other. In several missions, you’ll find that Fireteam Bravo cleared an area for you or are waiting for you to tackle on a particularly well guarded area before they can attempt a rescue mission seen on the PSP. Combined Assault begins with a failed rescue mission in the fictional country of Adjikistan as a SEAL team is attempting to escape with a valuable CIA operative. Unfortunately, “the package” never makes it so you are tasked with heading into enemy territory to recover him as well as discovering the secrets he has discovered.

The single-player campaign mode doesn’t force you to take on the missions in a linear fashion but rather you have the freedom to pick the mission you would like to take on with your team. After the first introductory mission, you are given a choice of related missions. The best part is that these missions are actually lengthy but most important, they are also really fun. Part of the reason the campaign missions are so enjoyable is the fact that the mission objectives have you performing a number of fun tasks that have you doing everything from taking out watchtower guards to securing prisoners in an abandoned gulag. The environments are also large; giving gamers the feeling of total freedom to approach each objective anyway they wish. Why infiltrate an enemy camp through the road used most by the enemy when you can enter the camp through a hidden path to the south?

Vehicles are back and this time they’re classified by slow and heavily armored (Armor), light and agile (Recon) or just fast (Support). You’ll take command of Humvees as well as boats and once again the vehicle controls work perfectly. Speaking of controls, the shooting and strafing moves are solid and you can issue orders on the fly. There are also more weapons and you can even unlock a few more that just plain rock whether you’re using them in the single-player campaign or in the game’s multiplayer mode. This is the beauty of Crosstalk, a feature that comes from your PS2 interacting with your PSP via a copy of Fireteam Bravo 2. It’s good to see a feature that has a handheld interacting with the console in ways that has you downloading a good deal of extras.

5 OUT OF 5 A MUST HAVE TITLE!

Meeting the Standard

What all other Socom version previously lacked this supplies. The monster of combining all the elements simulating combat. This game does a great job, and also has a "feel" to it that is more intact than the very simular previous version of socom 3. It feels like combat more, and the medikit is a nice addition to make you remember it is only a video game. Much more fun to forget the medikit though since in real life, if you get shot, then there is no short-term remedy for it. I highly recommend this above any other squad based shooter out there. Unless you are "buds" material, then join the real Seal Team, oh, and don't ring the bell no matter what...(only a few will understand that statement).Read full review...

Best Socom Game

i've always liked the socom games but some things i wanted to see in the games were missing. Combined assault has it i love the drivable vehicles it really adds realism to the game. you also have medkits to heal yourself in the game which is very nice. the best part about the medkits is if a teamate goes down you can revive him withen a limited amount of time really cool. the only downside is all of the missions yake place in one country and its a made up country. all in all the best socom game i've played.Read full review...

Best tactical game on the PS2!

The single player and mulitplayer co-op and classic mode (team vs team) is almost perfect! A lot of unlockables so the replay value is excellent and you get rewarded with new weapons for single player and online! The missions take a lot of planning and are really long. 18 missions all together and you can Crosstalk with Socom: Fireteam Bravo 2, a feature that let's you effect each of both games by doing missions! Instant Action mode let's you play with already done maps but with different missions to get badges (achievements) to unlock new equipment. It's so realistic that you can die in just 3-5 bullets or 1 in the head. Also, you get to get on vehicles like tanks to machine-gun equipped trucks!
Graphics: 5/5 - Looks almost as good as next gen consoles.
Sound: 5/5 - From the shots of the voices, it sounds lie the real thing.
Replay Value: 5/5 - Doing all 3 difficulties and extra missions let's you unlock
badges to get new equipment to do better next time!
Artificial Intelligence: 3/5 - Not the best but it's something, your teammates
keep falling off taking damage and the enemies
keep running at the walls but good thing for the
online!
