PS-3`s first Perfect online game!

As you know, X-box is the best system for "Online Gaming". It is, but Playstation is catching up. When Halo came out nobody could touch that. Until this game came out. There is no drop signals, trouble with interface, or even slow. It`s just like X-box online, but it` your PS-3. Quick, easy and great. The game itself is well done. Graphics, the plot and the whole missions are very good. Great gamming, and shooting. It is a great game to play online. Good price too. Remeber when purchasing this, that you recieve the head phones and router. Ask the seller what comes with the game.Very intertening. It`s good. Real good.

This is the frist game that PS-3 has put out and is great to play online. The plot, graphics are great. There is nothing bad about this game. Just remeber that you can only play online.

The game itself is good just as "Medal of Honors, Call of Duty`s" games. a lot of action, shooting and fighing. Just like the rest and graphics are very good. Good plot for the story too. Remeber this when buying it, it is only for "online gaming". You can not just play it against yourself. This game is woth $30 to $35. Bottomline, this is a very good game.loads of fun AND YOU CAN`T STOP PLAYING IT.

SOCOM: Confrontation is Ok, not Call of Duty 4

First of all, SOCOM: Confrontation, can only be played online (with a high speed connection). This makes it difficult to really know a level before you start playing against others online. There is no single player missions.

The way rooms are set up is so different from Call of Duty 4, that it can take up to 15 minutes before you are actually playing the game.
The whole menu screens are horrible, and there are a lot of errors that kick people out of rooms. PS3 systems will lock up, and reboot, without any warning.

Get into a CLAN as soon as possible, as that is the only way to get "Rank", which means very little, as there aren't different weapons or anything to unlock.

The only way to increase your rank is to play in Ranked games, which means no respawning (sucks), some players camp out, and if you are killed early, you can wait for 5-10 minutes until everyone else is dead or time expires to be able to play again.

The entire game is played from 3rd person view, except when zooming with a scope.

Pretty much if you want a Great 1st person shooter, go with Call of Duty 4, where you can play offline, and online. Online play will have weapons to unlock, and really cool objectives to complete. Menus are easily navigated, and before each round you can choose a pre-set class, which is what weapons and grenades, and other perks you want your man to carry.

Great SOCOM game. Shame there is no Campaign...

In the past few years, I have really gotten into the SOCOM games on the Playstation 2 and PSP. When Confrontation was announced for the Playstaion 3, I was excited and looked forward to it.

When the game launched, it had a ton of issues and I am glad I waited. Several patches later, SOCOM Confrontation is now a much more stable and playable game.

The environments are packed full of an amazing amount of detail and looks simply amazing. The game modes are all a ton of fun and there is a lot of different tactics for each mode and map.

This game is ONLINE ONLY which is a disappointment, especially for new players as there is no training or campaign to practice in and get used to the game. Confrontation is more of a game for players who are already used to the SOCOM universe.

If you're looking for a good, tactical shooter to play online with friends, SOCOM is a blast.

Socom Confrontation = Aches and misery

The good= The game looks really good. There are all kinds of weapons and modifications you can make to you and your gear. The game has alot of hardcore followers. You can now finally get into an actual game. THE DEVELOPERS ARE WORKING HARD TO BETTER THE GAMES MANY FLAWS!

The bad= The game is ALMOST there as far as controls but the quirky framerate really bogs it down. For being an online game only there are very FEW stages. There are ALOT of bugs. You have to search diligently to find your friends online.

I have been gaming for over 25 years now and have worked for software testing firms and i have to be honest. This game should have never been released given the star status of the name Sony's baby shall I say. You could'nt get online at all the first month only if you were severly lucky then you might get booted off. The developers have fixed alot of the problems though but there is a long road ahead of them and even if they ever do fix all of them and add on game content from the feedback of gamers everywhere this game still will be lackluster. I have had some fun with the game but i have to say only about 10% of the time that i have owned it. I have a problem with a game that you turn on to play in hopes that it has gotten better. Somethings not right with that. I actually took the game back to the store after i had bought it and when i heard they had fixed some of the problems bought it on ebay and i still think i should of left it alone. Because of the extreme following of this game there will be alot of gamers who will disagree with me but I believe deep down inside they know this to be true.... I'm not sorry to say i would wait for the NEXT socom in hopes that the game will return to the true roots of itself and be a more solid all around game and gaming experience.

Socom Confrontation is lackluster at best and i would recommend Ghost Recon Advandced Warfighter2 as a highly recommended alternate to this type of genre.
You can buy GRAW2 for about 15 to 20 dollars now.

Socom Confrontation 2008 after 5yrs of its release still a fun game to play

After 5yrs since its release I find this game very fun to play. However, after playing it again, I found the game a little stale. The problems it had 5yrs ago are still there; close combat malfucntion, ie. pulling gun trigger but knife is used instead. Like they say, never bring a knife to a fun fight, lol. I was surprised to find so many people online playing this game, which is a testiment to the game itself. However, it's still a fun game to play and I recommend it.Read full review...

Better wait for Socom 4

I bought this game when it was released and it was buggier than a summer BBQ. They released this game way to early. The graphics are ok but when you think about it that this game is online only and doesn't have that many maps you would expect the graphics to be way better than this. The box of the game has many promises which you will not find in he game like Trophies (unless patched by the time you read this).

After about a week or two when the game was a little patched up it was playable and fun at times, but i don't think it's worth the 40 bucks. I find myself going back and playing the Ps2 Socom's alot.

For a SOCOM game it was a big let down I hope they can make it up with SOCOM 4. If your looking for a good online shooter better stick to Call of Duty or Ghost Recon you will have better gameplay and at least a campaign to play with.

Not the best but in the top 10

socom has always been a great soldier game but lacked in one area. killer graphics. confrontation was a game with killer graphics but one that strayed from the socom formula.

slant six should have copied zipper and built a better clone than a new game for the ps3.

the game itself, as a standalone game, is not really that bad. it holds a solid online facet with great graphics and above average gameplay.

a must buy if you like army games and own a ps3.

Good Game, Great Community

I'm writing this review after owning the game for the better part of a year. In the beginning, this game had a lot of problems. Bugs and server problems plagued the first few months of this games life, not to mention missing features that were actually listed on the packaging.

Fortunately, the hard times have passed. Most features have been implemented (with the exception of in game clan ladders) and most of the major bugs have been fixed with additional game play improvements. With that being said, the game is not without imperfections. There are still issues, but nothing that makes the game unplayable. There are times of frustration when lag takes over a room, but lately it hasn't been any more of an issue than any other online game and most rooms run smoothly.

With the 1.5 and 1.6 patches coming which promise to implement the clan ladders, fix remaining bugs, and add new content, the games future is looking much brighter. That's not to mention the soon coming DLC pack which looks to add quite a bit of new content and a breath of fresh air to those of us who have been playing since the beta. Indeed SOCOMers, the future looks bright for us.

No hardcore SOCOM fan should pass this up and I think many players new to the series may find a new favorite game if they pick this up, as well.

Not that bad!

SOCOM is a very real game, just thinking about all other online buddies. Graphics are good, but controls are not quite as good as COD, which requieres you to shoot without aiming when the opponent is very close, like in a real environment.
There is not too much space to learn, people always wants to win and they are switching between teams. The game requires a lot of practice, over the time I hope to get it.
A good thing is that this is not the kind of game you finish and you will never play again because is boring. With SOCOM everything is new, nothing will going to makes you think you are playing in the same situations than yesterday.
A bad thing is that the game requires more attention of the SOCOM developer teams, because lag and bugs have been there and we requiered a fast response.

SOCOM: Confrontation

The best shooting game in the market now.

The excitement and tension of SOCOM's signature combat are blunted by technical issues in the series' multiplayer-only PlayStation 3 debut.
The Good

* Classic SOCOM action remains intact
* Variety of guns and gear let you tweak your soldier in meaningful ways
* Large, well-designed maps.

The Bad

* Myriad network issues
* Lag sometimes spoils combat
* Stat-tracking is broken
* Movement can be awkward.

After The Fact: Reviews Revisited

* What's this?

Update: Trophy Support
Posted: Feb 4, 2009 11:44 am PT
A few months after arriving in stores, SOCOM: Confrontation was updated to version 1.3 via a free patch that, among other things, added trophies to the game. There are 37 trophies in all, including a platinum one that can only be earned by first getting the other 36.
« Prev Update | All Updates (2) | Next Update »

SOCOM fans who have been eagerly awaiting the venerable series' return to consoles should be warned: You may not get all that you've hoped for in Confrontation. The beating heart of the series--the realistic, tightly wound tactical combat--is still healthy, but Confrontation's arteries are clogged by network issues, control hang-ups, and graphical hitches. Those who enjoyed previous SOCOM games may be able to push through this malaise, but with no single-player campaign to cut their teeth on, newcomers will likely find the game inaccessible as its myriad problems compound the already steep learning curve. Though there is still some life in it, Confrontation is a disappointingly anemic entry in this historically hot-blooded series.
