Much better than the original except for one very important thing.

Loved it. Much better than the original movie version except for the vampire. The movie vamp is definitely more scary than vamp Rutger H is in this one IMHO. Enjoyed watching the miniseries again.

Awesome remake of the classic!

A very interesting remake of the horror classic "Salem's lot" this remake is just as good as the original. The special effects in the film are awesome. The film has a great cast. I highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys remakes of horror classics!

Better Than The Original

I think this remake is so much better than the original. It also had some new twist and turns in it. Starring Rob Lowe, Dan Byrd, and Donald Sutherland. Rob Lowe is wonderful in this movie. He plays a writer that comes back to his old home town Jerusalem's Lot to work on his latest book. He is not the only new person in a town size of 1319. There is two new people (one that no one else has seen and one that runs a shop in town). Weird things start happening in this town and only a few really know what is going on.

The original had a freaky looking vampire (white skin, long nails, didn't really look human) but this one had a normal looking guy. Also the start and ending is different than the original. When I started watching this movie I didn't realize it was 3 hours long, so make sure you have some extra time to finish it. Wonderfully done to fit in with more modern times. Must see for any vampire fans!

Unlike the other reviews listed

I'm not sure what the mix up is, but this IS the original miniseries and not the remake. Personally I think this is creepier with better practical effects. The acting is pretty solid and the story makes sense. It's 3 hours but feels like 2, just so well paced. Makeup on the vampires was very good for its year. Definitely worth having Read full review...

Wonderful retelling of a modern classic

I really enjoyed this miniseries even with its twists, quite relavant to the time it was made. Dennis Hopper as Barlow was a treat! The cast is amazing! This is a must have for any vampire lovers out here that appreciate a good retelling that's holds up, even now.Read full review...

Typical Stephen King Movie, Definitely NOT the Book!

I am a Stephen King novel freak and have read everything he's written, many (including this) several times. I've seen almost every movie and so gave this a try.

As usual, here is another fantastic Stephen King novel adapted into an average movie. While many King books have made excellent movies, it seems the "scary" ones are almost always diluted to a "least common denominator" version bearing little resemblance to the novel.

If you've read (and love)the book, you will be disappointed. If you've not read the book, give it a try.

One excellent remake and made for TV movie

I'm not a fan of the original Salem's Lot, so I'm not here to debate one over the other. However, just speaking about this version, I have to say that it is an overall excellent movie. It's got a great cast and story. Calling Salem's Lot a made-for-tv movie is almost an injustice. If it wasn't for the fact that it's over three hours long, it could have easily appeared in theaters. It definitely made my top 10 favorite horror films of all time - Maybe even the top 5!Read full review...

Definetely not the novel....

I love Stephen Kings novels, but once they get into films/media, they lose the "creepy twist" (except for a couple of old ones). However, I liked this version better than the original one. Rob Lowe did a pretty good job, I've always thought of him as a pretty good actor with a lot of potential. As for Sutherland, I didn't really like his performance here, I was kind of disappointed. Maybe because his character wasn't strong enough? Overall, the script will never be as good as the novel, but the DVD itself was not that bad.Read full review...
