This SSD is so easy to install that you will enjoy having putting it in and using it.
I bought this SSD for my fairly new HP Desktop that initially came with a 128 Gig Samsung.I felt initially that that was really too small long term and it has proven to be insufficient for my needs. I am only using about 25% of it, but that means it will last almost forever. This is the 4th Samsung SSD that I have installed on a computer this year and the first one was the most challenging since the migration software was not as good as required, but the last 3 with the latest migration was easy as could be. If things are right on your old disc, this will successfully migrate things while you enjoy your coffee and breakfast or whatever you will do while it is being installed. When it is ready to go comes that part that requires the most effort, but depending on the computer you are putting it on, it will be maybe a 15 minute to one hour job. 500 Gig will be the sweet spot for most of us and this is a good value for $150 or so and will make your computer more enjoyable to use. Every computer that I use or help others with today has a Samsung 500 Gig SSD on it and when you use the Samsung Magician with it when it is installed, you will get the best performance on it no matter what type of computer it is. Samsung has really done their job on giving you a high performing product that works at a level that might blow your socks OFF. All of the computers that Installed this product on had an i7 processor and 6 gig to 24 gig of ram. This will help any computer, but probably have its best performance on ones with 4 cores or more on the processor. the I7s I put them on effectively have 4 cores with hyper-threading and they look like they have 8 cores.Read full review...

A solid/comfortable choice and why...
This SSD (Solid State Drive) is an amazing piece of hardware and I recommend it in the fullest.
If you are building a new PC this is a must have in the modern world as the benefits of SSD vs. HDD (Hard Disk Drive) are exponential by comparison.
To put it in a nutshell, HDD's were obsoleted by the technology of an SSD and the difference is in how they store and access data.
*end of nutshell*
A HDD contains a circular plate (the Hard Disk) that serves as the medium for your data to be stored. The data is read by a little header (much like a CD player) and it is read one file at a time until all files has been found or whatever program you are tying to run (no multitasking).
The hard disk has many different locations to store the data in and the locations have finite space available to them. So if you fill the capacity of one area with a program it will have to store the rest of the program in a different area of the disk. This can become convoluted with time.
The hard disk has to spin in order for the header to read the data. When your data is spread so thin that the header has to hit multiple locations in your hard disk to compile the data for one program you can begin to notice the issue with HDD's.
When these things happen a lot you begin to have noticeable hits to your system performance. And this is why disk defragmenting is an essential part of PC maintenance when using an HDD.
Defragmenting your disk would literally find files that belonged together and try and order them as closely and neatly as possible and this would help system performance.
With SSD's these things are no longer the standard fare.
The exact workings of an SSD I have yet to fully research but I can tell you the fundamental differences.
A SSD has no moving parts. It has no disks to spin.
Unlike a HDD it can pull data from all locations of the SSD at the same time (yes multitasking) to gather the files for your program.
An SSD DOES NOT CARE how close your files are to each other or how neat the data is dispersed.
This also means disk defragmenting is a thing of the past for a SSD (and could potentially mess up your SSD so DO NOT defragment these).
Because of this the data transfer to and from a SSD is blazingly fast and will actually bottleneck (overload with information) older SATA interfaces.
Do not worry though as the HDD you might be replacing with an SSD never came close to bottlenecking the SATA and you WILL get noticeable perform gains.
Your computer will literally do everything faster with an SSD and is easily the best upgrade for an aging and slow PC and a literal must have for any new build.
SSD's are in a laptop form factor as well so one literally fits all PC's, desktops and laptops.
(There is a possibility of a PC case not supporting SSD mounting if it is sufficiently old).
Price differences in SSD's come from the capacity of the drive and the ability of the data storage cells to write and re-write data before failing.
The Samsung 850 EVO is of higher quality in this regard and that is the reason for the price premium when compared to the drives of competing manufacturers with similar or greater storage capacity.
I happily recommend this product at its standard price and insist upon it when it goes on sale.

Great price. 500GB of SSD by Samsung. Comes with the Samsung Magician software, Performance benchmarks at first said it wasn't working, than after "optimization" within the Samsung Magician speeds went up to as follows:
Sequential Read- 551 MB/s Up to 540
Sequential Write- 529 MB/s Up to 520
Random Read- 95667 IOPS Up to 98000
Random Write- 88068 IOPS Up to 90000
My PNY 240GB does slightly better in all benchmarks surprisingly. But also has been used or broken in a bit more. Just that aside this arrived early, installed easily after finding where to activate it as a Drive in PC, and super lightweight. Great addition for the empty 2.5" bay. Speed things up.
I have a 2012 Mac Mini. I also have a 2012 Macbook Pro, The Macbook has a SSD drive and is very quick. I wondered if I replaced the disk drive in the Mini if it would speed up as well. I have the answer, YES!! I can't put a percentage or give exact numbers but what I do know is in the past it took at least a minute for the mini to boot up, now it is less than 30 seconds. It used to take a long time, to start up google, now it is with in a few seconds. If you are a mac owner this drive works great. The install is fairly simple. I used an external housing for the SSD drive, formatted it, use a cloning program and copied my HD to the SSD and then installed it. Great SSD Value
This was my first venture into SSDs and it was a good one. Installation was very simple - in my case it just snapped in. I hooked up the SATA power and the SATA III cable, initialized the disk and quick formatted it NTFS (disk manager). I used a standard tool to clone my boot drive on to the Samsung 850 EVO since the software that comes with the SSD did not appear to work with Windows 10. Once cloned, my computer booted in less than 30 seconds! My sequential read is 530 MB/s and write at 504 MB/s. I used a tool to check the partition alignment, which was good. For perspective, my basic equipment complement is:
- ASUS motherboard, M5A99FX
- AMD FX-8350 overclocked to 4.5 GHz with air cooler
- 16 GB 1866 MHz memory CL9
- This reviewed Samsung 500 GB SSD model 850 EVO.

I love this SSD. The only downside is the constant price change. Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
After finding good review I went with the EVO 850 500gb drive for my desktop. After cloning the existing 100gb drive with my Inateck FD2002 Docking Station to the EVO 850, I popped it into the desktop and went on my way. There was not a hiccup along the way and the drive performs perfectly. It's a quick boot with no delays using my Pinnacle Studio 20.0 for creating class videos and basketball evaluation videos. Very well rated SSD, that's why I purchased it and am glad I did. Definitely a lot faster than my hdd, decreased my boot time about 40-50% . As for the price, it's a bit pricey , but you can get it cheaper here on ebay (no tax yay!) . Even then it's still a bit pricey to me but well worth it since my hdd was starting to go out on me, and I just can't deal with hdd anymore. I had the same laptop for a while now, and the first hdd (that came with the system) died about 1.5 years in, the 2nd hdd died about 2 years in, so I am done with hdd and switched to ssd for reliability and faster speeds. Perfect Upgrade
It took me a while to select an SSD, as I had never bought one before. I did a moderate amount of research and charts I saw showed the performance of the Samsung EVO series to be well out in front of other SSDs. The price was reasonable, too.
It's SATA 3 compatible (super fast), although my motherboard only supports SATA 2. I upgraded from a standard 5400 rpm drive. So far It works great. The "SSD Magician" software CD it comes with is really cool too... it helps you really tune your SSD for maximum performance.
The following has nothing to do with this SSD, but is just a note to anyone who is cloning a drive:
I have cloned many drives in the past without any problems. I had an issue this time, though. I KNEW I was doing everything right in Disk Management, but after 2 days of trying, I could not get this drive to initialize. I was just at the point of giving up and sending the drive back, when I thought I'd try plugging the drive into a different USB port on my computer. SUDDENLY, I was able to initialize the drive and the rest of the process went smoothly.
