Sure plays VHS tapes better than Mike Serio's Broksonic DVD & VRC Combo Player Recorder
Mike Serio has had his Broksonic DVD/VHS combo player for 13 years. And the player head is starting to show signs of wear. The playback heads inside the Samsung DVD-V1000 DVD & VRC Combo Player Recorder do not show any signs of dirt or wear, so if I play a vhs tape that shows slight slight signs of disintegration, this player will play it a lot better than the Broksonic unit. The DVD player however has been used, but it can be serviced if needed. The real satisfaction of playing vhs tapes and copying them to another VHS player or DVD recorder comes from realizing that the player heads and record heads are all in good condition on this unit.Read full review...

Unreliable Product
First, this is the second V1000 I have bought, both bought used, so my problems may be design or previous misuse. BUT, both units the DVD side has failed. On the first unit, it was impossible to eject the tray and I followed all directions and suggestion. It was as though there was no power available for the DVD operation. The VHS side worked well and was reliable. The compatibility to my TV operation, i.e. channel selection etc. was fine.
So I decided to purchase a identical replacement, used, on the internet. It arrived with a VHS cassette stuck in its drawer, and eject would not dislodge it. AND, the DVD did not play, although it would edict and indicated it was 'loading', but follow with a messages of "no disc". I succeeded in pulling the VHS cassette out and when I re-inserted it, the VHS portion on the unit performed well.
Continued efforts with the DVD portion finally got one disc to play but each additional attempt has failed.
Th cost of the used unit was lower than the price of return shipping, so I have not attempted to return it. I still have VHS taped and decide I would relegate the unit to that limited use.Read full review...

Samsung DVD-V1000 DVD Player / VCR Combo
The Samsung DVD/VCR player is easy to use. Just plug in the power chord and plug in the component chords to the TV and you're good to go! The design is so sleek and very attractive! Honestly, it's one of the sexiest looking devices I have seen from a DVD/VCR combo! It's a bit big and heavy though, but great quality. It's definitely money well spent!Read full review...

One of the most reliable combos I ever came across in a decade.
I was skeptical at fist buying a Samsung brand. I didn't find other reviews very convincing either. I took a chance and I'm glad I did. This machine is built like a tank. It looks and performs smooth. Samsung was very generous with putting this together. All metal cabinet. Beautiful. Most importantly replacement parts are available for purchase. I see this as a big plus. Most of the maintenance of these units is very very cheap compared to other combo brands. I would definitely buy a Samsung DVD-V1000 again.Read full review...

Samsung DVD/VCR w/ Remote
Machine broke down-DVD broken-VCR broke internally way too soon-Remote only partially works. I thought this unit would save me space by having both units in one-very disappointed I would not consider buying another unless I had assurance the earlier defects were corrected. I have found that earlier models often have technical problems which are fixed on later models, and then the quality is ssomething you can count on being reliable.Read full review...
