A Not-So-Detailed-But-Cleanly-Built Model of the Sauber C9
EBay always ask three questions by default. The first question is "Is it durable"? Honestly, the answer is no. It's NOT a toy, it's a scale model car for adult collectors. It's a delicate WORK OF ART and careful handling is a must. The second question is "Do you recommend it"? Of course! Specially for the specific subject matter at hand. This is the most affordable replica of the 1989 24 Hours of Lemans Winning Group C Race Car that you can have in this scale. Your only other option will come from Exoto which is already sold out, out of production, and needless to say, 4x (most likely 5x more expensive now). If you're on a budget, that model is not for you. NOREV is and its MORE THAN ENOUGH! The third question is "Is it entertaining"? Of course, if you are into motorsports memorabilia collecting hobby and you know Lemans, the Sauber C9 is one more car you can add. It's not too expensive, but there is indeed some cost-cutting in the production line to be see. However, the model was built cleanly, and that's the quality you can pay at today's rate of inflation. Having said that, it's still relatively affordable. Mind you though the model has a sealed body -- no opening doors, no engines to reveal, and the interior only has the basic amenities which include the steering wheel, the seat with molded seat belts, dash board gauges (specially the tachometer). All the intake vents and scoops at the front and rear are sealed.
Having said that, this model will sit nicely into your array of model cars without looking odd. And if you're the type who displays the model almost immediately after opening and taking it out of the box, you realize you don't really need many other features. The important aspect such is that the model car, as a whole, is already enough to leave a satisfying impression. You then realize this is more than enough than having to spend half a thousand dollars on an Exoto version of this model which is already very difficult to find on the first place and there's no assurance that it's current state is favorable (if you even find one for less money than expected, it will most likely have issues often heard from long gone models such as paint blistering or the rubber tires having a chemical reaction and began deforming).
