Old product, but still useful and relavent.

The Seagate Dockstar is an older, discontinued sharing device. Unfortunately, the Seagate Firmware and the Pogoplug service are rather restrictive, and place your device within reach of other's, outside your home network.

Fortunately, this device is rather simple, and can be modified with an updated version of Linux.
I was able to easily install OpenWRT on the device.
For more information, Google "OpenWRT Seagate Dockstar". WARNING: This procedure requires specific instructions followed in exact order, or you will "Brick" your device.

The allows you to use it as a SAMBA server, and share files privately, in your own home network. It can also be used as a wireless access point, by adding a USB wireless dongle.
