Surprisingly superlative closed-back Sennheiser headphones-truly worth the money

I've been hot and cold on Sennheisers, I have a pair of their older wireless RF home theater
headphones that are not really that comfy (too wide), and too light on the bass, by far, but I don't really use them anymore. In any case, I already had end-game headphones, including my wonderful Hifiman open planar HE400Is, but I wanted something closed-back for portable usage, and these fit the bill. They really, really sound good, even right out of the box they sounded pleasing, comfort is great, lightweight build, closed-back, don't leak sound much, and the overall sound signature is bass solid, mids good, highs really, really good, and shimmering and clear. It may be true that the Sennheiser open-backs sound superior overall,
but these are some of their better closed-back cans, by far. They sound warm, clear,
punchy, and not too closed or claustrophobic. The bass is tight and punchy, but never
overbearing. The highs are not strident, clear as a bell, but will not cause headaches!

And the price is a steal. If you need lightweight, portable closed-back cans, these are some of the best you can choose right now. I also own the new Pioneer X7 DJs, and those are excellent too, although perhaps more for rock, dance music, reggae, techno, pop, etc., and the Sennheisers can handle anything with finesse, and they are selling for a lot less money right now. Don't even hesitate, if you need good light closed cans, for walking, portable, or even
home pleasure music listening, the 569s are an excellent choice. My only complaint
is I only got one really long cable with my pair, but you can easily pick up some shorter ones.
I'm running mine at home on the Creative Labs G6 amp card, and on the go with
a Fiio A5 amp, and both are bringing the best out of these phenomenal light closed-backs.
Buy them now! I really think Sennheiser hit a home run with these particular headphones.
And that's from an old time audio nut that is very picky about what he uses and likes.

Better Choice is the Sennheiser HD Pro 280

The sound is not good in the midrange and the lows are weak. Much better choice is the Sennheiser HD Pro 280 and it also costs less at around $99.00 brand new. The sound is perfectly balanced and it has better magnets for the drivers which give you better soundYou will not be dissapointedRead full review...

Great closed headphones

These are one of the best closed-ear headphones you can get.
Sound quality is superb.
The only thing I dont like - the ear puffs push quite hard into the head, which combined with wearing glasses is a bit comfortable. I had similar issue with other Sennheiser headphones, the headphones should get a bit more loose over the time, which will help with that.
Overall, great headphones.

I love them

It was in brand new condition. Box was good. Headphones took about 30 to 40 hours to burn in. It sounds just as great as the HD598 CS which I had previously.

Comfortable and isolates sound well. Read full review...

I love them!

They do exactly what they are supposed to do: recreate the sounds as they are. I used them as studio headphones for recording and I like the fact that they don’t fool you, you get what you hear. The clarity and frecuenciy separation is outstanding. I highly recommend these headphones to those of you looking for an accurate reproducción of the sound frequencies.Read full review...

Clamps a little tightly, but the sound quality is excellent

My previous headphones were a ratty old pair of Bose AE2 headphones-- yeah I know, boo hiss and all that, but not junk in terms of sound quality, and and the real advantage was that they were very light and comfortable for travel. These Sennheisers clamp noticeably tighter than the Bose and a pair of Philips SHP9500 open backs that I also tried, but the sound quality and detail of the instruments seemed better than either of them. They also seemed noticeably bassier and warmer sounding than the bose, and to a lesser extent the Philips, but all three seem like relatively neutral sounding headphones to me. I don't have enough of an ear for soundstage to really comment on that. The clamping also helps with isolation, and the tightness may lessen with a bit of break-in, but to date these are probably the best headphones I have listened to. Read full review...

So surprised!

I bought these over the ear headphones so I can plug into my guitar amp and have isolated noise. They are surprisingly light weight do not feel at all awkward. The quality of the build is superior to most headphones the clarity and tone are amazing!
I was so satisfied with this purchase, that I bought my wife a pair! I also bought her a Slappa pro Full-size hardshell case as we will want to take them with us as we travel. These are definitely worth the money.

Wow

I Think they are great, they are very clear headphones i am going to be using them for pc gaming, and they sound great. there is not very much feel bass, but that is a good or bad thing depending on what your doing. they are probably the most comfortable headset i have owned, even being closed backs they do not heat up as much as you would think.

I will not be upgrading anytime soon.

Great sounding cans, in the same league as the Meze 99 Classics (imo)!

I am super picky about headphones. I recently had to switch from open back to closed back due to changing jobs, and I had no frame of reference for great sounding closed cans. So I ended up with a few dogs, before a few hits. I just got Meze 99 Classics, and these. These were a fraction of the price of the Meze's, yet they have 90% of what I like about the 99 Classics. A balanced and neutral presentation with just a little bit of "fun" to make them more enjoyable for day to day listening. (Slight bass and treble boosts vs completely flat/neutral.) In fact, I like them both *equally*, yet they are slightly different sounding. I knew about these Senns for a while, I was just nervous about buying yet another poor sounding pair of headphones. I shouldn't have waited so long!
