Shall We Dance? For the love of God - NO!!!!!!

So here's the story behind Shall We Dance... my girlfriend's mother recommended this movie to us and loaned us her DVD. Apparently it was phenomenal / cute / fun / romantic all rolled into one. So we watched it late one night after work... I'd seriously like those 90 minutes of my life back. This movie is awful. It taught me two basic truths:

1) Don't trust a woman's taste in the movie when Richard Gere is in it because her taste for Richard Gere will automatically override any taste or distate for the movie. Richard Gere = the even-older George Clooney.

2) Don't trust any movie that Jennifer Lopez stars in. Sounds simple - but time after time, people seem to forget JLo's past flops and want to give her another chance. Lord knows why... but they shouldn't.

The mixture of Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez is a almost unbeatable. There is no way this movie can get worse right? Then comes Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez... somehow she continues to spiral downwards.

Why Shall We Dance

I was very much like Richard Gere, getting older and feeling like I wasn't going anywhere although I had done a pretty good job of getting where I was. I turned to long distance motorcycle riding, researched and purchased not one but two motorcycles and began the skill learning and became very good at it. Richard Gere's character turned to dancing, enrolled in a dance academy and went through all the ins and outs of learning to dance not just one style but multiple styles of dancing. We both had to learn skills that weren't natural and trust in the person we were learning from. When you begin to feel good about yourself again it's almost contagious and Gere's character regained the companionship and friendship that had somewhat disappeared with his wife. His quest not only benefited him but all the friends around him benefited as well. I love this movie, my life paralleled his and we each sought out redemption in a way that we each needed and brought satisfaction back into our life. Shall We Dance - Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez

The movie portrays and young Lopez who used to be a professional ballroom dancer that is now teaching classes to people in a friends studio who also teaches public to dance. Lopez is very lonely and Gere comes in for lessons to help his marriage so that he can dance with his wife.
The movie is fantastic in that it is real to life showing that some men willstill work hard on a daily basis to continually renew and refresh the relationship that they have with their spouse. But as a woman it is easy to see why Gere's wife in the film has a hard time accepting the fact that he is out alot, possibly cheating on him but int he end finds out what he is really doing after blowing up on him. Shall We Dance?

I rented this movie and loved it. I have a select few movies that I buy because I can watch them over and over, and this is one of those. I see that most women who have written a review for this movie liked it, plus a few guys who aren't afraid of their feelings! Good for you! I've seen both the American and Japanese versions and both are good. But not being able to speak Japanese, the subtitles were a little distracting. In the American version, the one scene that melts my heart is when Richard Gere is coming up the escalator in the tuxedo with the rose in his hand and the sweet smile on his face! I would give a thousand dollars to have a poster of that scene! (I've checked every poster company on the web and can't find it.)If you're a "macho man" or pretending to be one, don't bother seeing this movie. If you still believe in love and happy endings, rent it first and you'll want to buy it. Hope to see your review here soon!Read full review...

INSPIRING!

I'm a guy and I took up Ballroom dancing at about the same time this movie came out so I really loved the movie because I really connected with the Richard Gere character. I felt much the same way as him, I wanted more in life, why I felt ballroom was what I wanted I don't know it just seemed fun. like Gere's character I remember the awkward feeling of the first time I went too my lessons but I also remember how awsome and confident I felt afterwards. I think anybody that enjoys ballroom dancing will enjoy this movie, the dancing is great as is the soundtrack, it is very funny and it has a wonderful message. Shall we dance?

This is a wonderful movie. I have to admit I am a Richard Gere fan, not to mention Jennifer Lopez, but even if these actors aren't some of your favorites they steal your heart. It is a movie that definitely entertains you but it also shows an endearing side to the movie. It is a romance type movie but it isn't the chick-flick type that will turn guys off but it is a chick-flick! That isn't a bad thing considering some of the blood and guts movies out there but it is a well made movie and I am sure you will enjoy it. I give it an excellent rating because when a movie can entertain you and you get into the movie and wish it didn't end, that's an excellent movie to me. Dance

I thought it was a great story with a realistic view of life and how mudane it can be. It also gives one the idea of learning to dance and it can not only change up your life, but it can bring back what is lost or is in the process of being lost. Highly recommend. Loved this movie......

The first time I saw this movie, I called my mother and sister and said they had to see it...thought it was sensitive, humorous and entertaining....we all three really enjoyed it. Thought this was one I needed to add to my movie collection. Just a good story and quite believable. What I call a "feel good
movie"...ended happily, no violence, nudity, language, car chases, drugs. And some pretty interesting characters. Maybe not the real world, but once in a while it is fun to escape to just a good entertaining story.Read full review...
