A diamond robbery at a fashionable San Francisco jewelry store leads to the murder of the housekeeper and wife of the store owner. The elderly jeweler's wife was taken hostage to facilitate his escape and purposely murdered for no reason. FBI agent Stantin (Sidney Poitier) had no choice but to deal with this guy after he murdered the housekeeper and threatened to kill the wife. He now has escaped into the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. In an effort to evade police, he kills several people and joins a wilderness survival group of city type adventurers led by a professional female guide. Completely cut off from everyone else, she eventually is all alone with this guy after he kills all of the others. He has twenty pounds of diamonds and is forcing her to take him to Canada. Stantin is following. He presses another guide, Johnathan Knox, as his guide. Knox's girlfriend is the other guide. Still awesome movie years later!!

I love suspenseful thrillers and this movie is still up there even in 2018! Had a huge crush on Tom Berenger back then and he ,along with the other actors, do not disappoint! It'll keep you guessing right up til the end of who the murderer is. I can get bored sometimes when I figure out "the who done it" early in the movie and didn't have to worry with this one at all! Older movie that still carries a punch

This movie covers a lot of ground, from a jewelry heist to a wilderness hike with a cold blooded killer. The acting is superb all the way through. Even the lesser characters are played to perfection.
