Good Report About Healthcare System

Just finished watching the movie and also some of the DVD extras. The main purpose of the film, which is showing how the US health system is unfair and deceptive, is well achieved. We recognize ourselves or someone we know in the situation of having treatment denied due to limitations over finance resources or a pre-existing health condition. Well, living is a pre-existing condition to be sick and die, and the movie managed to show how the government, the drug and the health insurance industry could not care less about people when money is all that matters.

However, I thought the attempt to show how public and free health care systems work so fine in the UK, France and Cuba was a mistake. While I agree that just the fact of having free access to medicine and assistance in those countries is just good enough, that does not mean it is effective. Let's not forget that this is just a movie and things and people tend to behave differently when the camera and the lights are on. I don't mean to be pessimistic and/or skeptical, but that's just what happens in reality. So the apparent "red carpet" treatment patients in the movie get might not have been that genuine. Comparing different systems is valid for the point Michael tried - and managed - to make, but if he had chosen to focus only on the US problem, it would have produced better results.

Good movie, despite its apparent flaws.

Insurance problem in USA?

This dvd nailed on the head the insurance problems in the US and gave me hope that there is a solution out there that other countries are using and these solutions are VERY beneficial for the populace! Why is USA 38th in World Health! After watching this movie once I immeadeatly purchased this dvd and am showing it to everyone I know. We should be more aware of how we are being fooled. There is a whole other world out there that is in better health then we are.

I am a wellness consultant for a Japanese company and knew some of this information already but this movie presented the info in a eye opening manner.

I also am one of those that this movie is about! I am living this problem on my own! Totally out of pocket for my health care! I really want to move to another country now!

This move has raised my awareness more and raised more questions that I will look for answers to.

WOW you should take the time to educate yourself on this insurance/health matter- it materes to you and to your family.

Sicko is worth not getting Ill About Michael Moore

When I first heard about this movie, I thought it would be just another Michael Moore film that at least with the ones I have seen, I was not that impressed with. Sicko was a total surprise. I actually saw the movie on cable first, but after I watch it I had to show friends and family. It was totally eye-opening.

Many in my family said it was just more liberal propganda to pass an expensive health, big government insurance plan. I heard it all, we need to keep it the way it is, and just get cost controlled. Sicko shows why it's broken, and it's not just cost, it's the whole system gone amuck.

I think some of the foreign examples were a little over the top, meaning I don't think they found average people all the time, but that did not matter, I know first hand how horrible the American system is after some personal issues that I have, three super nasty ER visits, so after all this anger about the care that I have received, I finally really know why and really upsets me to no end.

And the anger, not bad anger, but time to start really helping Americans came across me, especially when shown how many 9/11 volunteers are getting treated, and these are our heros, and they are getting the treatment the rest of us are getting which we assume is the best in the world, which for many things it is, but what happens is we all get the best treatment while insured, little do we know that it's just building many reasons why an insurance company can deny care later on, or worse...

Before I saw this movie, I thought like everyone else. Government Healthcare is horrible, it will raise our taxes, and all the common crap that is being spread by the powers that be. After I watched this film, I am not only for a government plan, I am ready to see an end of most private insurance, not because I am against free markets, I now believe its time to end this insanity that kills people to save a buck, that turns doctors into businessmen who are incentivized to cut cost at the expense of Americans, not healthcare workers who want to save and help all they can. Sicko makes that connection.

In conclusion, I wished someone would have taken this issue on because many will just assume another controversial Michael Moore film with liberal message. This one is not, Moore got this one right, and again, this opinion is based on my personal dealings paired with what I saw in Sicko. Expect to get upset, not so much from you expect, but how we are blatantly lied to by the industry and politicians that has the majority of America still believing we merely need to tweak it.

I would recommend watching, maybe even twice, and let friends and family watch it. Expect some negative things said, but this message is just too important, if you believe healthcare in general is important, or will be at some point in your life.

Execellent way to present a problem

Althought there is a few elements which are much more fictional than I would like to see, it is a great documentary. I just want people to realize that in Cuba there is not a pharmacy in each corner and less, the way the medical care was portrait is for turists only. The hospitals for the people are way different. I have to send medicine to my family there because there is not even generic Tylenol so I was soo surpriced to see (1) that the medication the 9-11 Veteral use is a cuban produced medication which is not available in the USa nd (2) that the pharmacy will dispense it withut prescription and so easily... come on Michael! you went way too far... I am a real fun of your work but let's be more truthful! We all need to address the health care issue in america and I think this is a great documentary... I am sure all the frech people will love to say their appartments are that spacious!!! hahahaRead full review...

Moore strikes again

Actually, this film had no surprises for those of us that have dealt with medical insurance companies and have a true understanding of how bad America's health care system truly is. To those members of the public who are unenlightened the film reveals just how bad capitalism can be when applied to the nation's health. The profit motive works to deny appropriate health care to millions of people with health insurance and (this film was made before Obamacare was enacted) allowed insurance companies to deny coverage to millions more. This film should have been played around the clock on all networks during the struggle to pass Obamacare. The USA spends more per capita on health care than any other advanced country and has one of the worst stats on the actual health of its people. While insurance companies make hundreds of millions and pay their CEOs fantastic salaries people are literally being murdered in the name of profit. Moore with his usual brilliance tells this tale of tragedy in an entertaining way setting forth the facts in a calm humanitarian way I for one don't know how he keeps his composure while exposing our supposed representatives who have been bought by the big insurance and drug companies. Moore sets forth these companies lobbying efforts as well as their deceptive campaigns used to defeat Bill Clinton's attempt to pass universal healthcare coverage during his presidency. These methods were of course used again again in the fight against Obamacare. I wish I could say there were some laughs in the film. There is certainly irony but it is hard to stomach the undeniable fact that Insurance companies have been killing their fellow Americans for the sake of profit. The very sad fact is that in spite of Michael Moore's best efforts and in spite of Obamacare the behavior of the insurance companies haven't changed all that much. This is a great film and it ends on a hopefull note. I just wish it was mandatory viewing in the boardrooms of the insurance companies.Read full review...

Insurance

What bothered me a little was his black & white view of the healthcare industry - either it is public OR private. In reality, many western countries have a "hybrid" system. For example here in Finland we have a pretty reasonable public healthcare system (which by the way is not totally free for the patient, albeit very cheap), but in addition, we also have private clinics, if you want even faster service and are willing to pay extra. You can also get an insurance from private companies, which provides extra financial support and/or service in the private clinics in case of illness. Also some workplaces and institutes have free doctors.Read full review...

The Status of American Medicine?

We get the feeling sometimes, that Americans busy as they are, do not have time to look into Health Care. Michael Moore reveals that the US has been surpassed by most of the world in making affordable health care available to most or everyone. He notes in passing that the folks in healthcare are obsessed with greed, and so they are as illustrated by a group of Americans who could not get treatment even after serving in 9/11 Rescue work. By a strange and laughable humor, Moore takes these maltreated heros to Cuba where they get some love and treatment free of charge. Moore compares the USA medical care with Canada, France and Cuba. And we get a good feel of how the US treats its own citizenry, there is no need for statistics. The message of what needs to be done is not that complicated in this video. Americans in many ways have listened to Christ's message to help the least. This is one area, even during this pandemic, where Americans have failed. Read full review...

What the Health Insurance Co's Don't Want Us to Know

Moore takes us on a worldwide tour of health systems. Seems that the rest of the industrialized world, especially Canada & western Europe have single payer, state run health systems and people like it. Quite the opposite of what we are told about them in this country.

I especially enjoyed the section about Norway in the special features. Makes me proud of my Scandinavian heritage.

Everyone who is concerned about health care here in the US should watch this film.

Sicko

It was good reporting, but it is obvious that he was paid to push socialized medicine. And he was incorrect about Canada. As a world traveler, I happen to know that many Canadians cross the border to receive medical help here in good clean hospitals. NO DOUBT that those that rated this excellent are diehard obama fans who want to see socialized medicine in the USA. This is NOT the standards that this country was built on. He ( Michael Moore) must have been paid a hefty sum to push this type of Socialized medicine. His information was partly incorrect. He never revealed the tax structure, or how people pay up to 18 percent in taxes in these countries.....! No, no way! I am glad that I saw this, because Obama has used the media and paid off more characters to force us into a one world, one government, euro based government. America is gone. It breaks my heart.Read full review...
