My 8-year-old loves this game - what is she learning???

My 8-year-old daughter loves this game. It is the best-selling PC game of all-time. Although mostly entertainment, I believe this game has taught my daughter some valuable life lessons, especially about tradeoffs. For example, in the game, money and time are limited. The player ius in control. The player must make wise choices about how to spend the money and what activities will consume the Sims time. There are also some potentially damaging concepts that may be picked up. I handle that part by discussing them with my daughter.

While, in general, I am against kids spending a lot of time in front of the computer, this game has some merits. Some other lessons I have seen come across in the game are:

The more skills a Sim has, the more money he will earn.
If the maid doesn't do his job well, he needs to be fired/replaced.
If the Sim misses too much work, he will be fired.
Relationships with other Sims are very important -- they increase the overall happiness of the Sim.

Some potentially negative / damaging concepts:
The Sims that offers players opportunities to create families and make lives for them, and if they don't like the outcome, they can imply press a 'Quit' icon and play the game again with new families and new lives.
It seems WAY too easy for a Sim to get a job. They just look in a newspaper and it's done. No interviews, no real effort, etc.

good game, bad for vista

Do not buy this product if you have Vista. There are so many things you have to do just to be able to use the game that it is a waste of time. However, I hear the product and game is good. I enjoy this game and always have since I was kid. Name a few other games that are lifelike and you completely control what they do and, if you want, how they die? The new Sims games are all about missions and quests. This one is simple. Make a person or a family, get a lot, build a house, get a job, don't f*** up (unless that was your goal in the first place). It is also addicting as well. There are some flaws and bugs, but there are patches you can find for those.Read full review...

patsygreen62

I use to have one years ago and moved to where I am now and it fis no longer in my possession. So I decided to buy it again and found it on ebay, I paid $45.07 for it and after I installed it and played for a couple of minutes I wanted to continue to see if everything worked on it so I had bought a house and decorated it, etc. and then had to go somewhere and tried to save my progress and it wouldn't let me, it kept coming up under save house that there was an error in saving the house. So no matter how many times I play the game, each time I get off of it I will have to start all over again each time, and thats not normal. I wish that someone could tell me how to fix it or what is wrong with it, or get me another one or something. patsy green (pgre5719)Read full review...

Sims causes a racouso

Originally I had boughten 2 of these wonderous games, The first purchased was not a good experience. The dealer was gracious and returned my money. But it was an item that my granddaughter wanted for her birthday. The second games was great. It worked as soon as I put it in the pc. She plays it when she comes up for weekend visits. She taught me how to play the game, and we enjoy it together. Thanks for the great experiences and quality time we get to share together. Some dealer do a real good service, then there others, who should not be allowed to see. Continue the good work. I enjoy the services.Read full review...

Game worth the cost. A great buy for simulation gamers.

This game is great. It combines the original concepts of Sims, and adds new products, jobs, and actions.

If you aren't familiar with Sims, this game allows you to control the lives of a Sim (simulation) family. You can have them get jobs, or have them stay at home. You can have them married, or remain a bachelor. Whichever course you chose, you have to make sure you have money to keep the fridge full, and pay your bills, or a collector will come and start taking your furniture!! Between robberies, deaths, and social activities, this is the absolute best game for the casual or intense gamer.

Along with all of your other responsibilities, you have to hone the skills of your Sims, including building their charisma and creativity skills, etc. With these skills, you can receive promotions in your job, or do things like painting or woodworking at home to make money.

Each sim has their own personality. You can make them nice, outgoing, or energetic. Whichever personality you want to make with your alloted personality points. The only downfall is that you don't start off with much money, but that can be fixed with the right cheat codes.

You can have children and adults, and the children must get good grades in school or they will go to boot camp. Between the personalities, house construction and decoration( the better your house is set up, the happer, more energetic, etc. they will be)jobs, and all of the other features of this game, it is truly well built and has endless opportunities for new things to happen to your sim family.

You hold the key to your family's future. What will you do with it? You can either make your sims' lives prosperous, or ruin them completely. Overall, an awesome game and will give you endless hours of fun and enjoyment.

A great PC game

This is a great PC game. It's a people simulator. The creators considered calling this game 'Doll house' but they decided that that would make the game unappealing to men.
You can create people and make them nice or mean. If you make them mean, they go around insulting and slapping other Sims. You can use a Voodoo doll on any adults who live in your Sims house or who are visiting. But if they know which Sim who did it, they will slap him or her.
The only disappointing thing about this game is that nobody can talk. The people just make sounds when they communicate with one another. You can call and invite other people to a Sims house. But if you call them late at night, they will bless you out.
This is a great game and the number one selling PC game of all time. Buy it. You won't be sorry.

The Sims

I love to spend time playing this game. It is very addicting and a whole lot of fun. I like that I can do anything I want on this game. I don't like that sometimes the game freezes up or exits out. Overall this is a great game and is perfect for those people who have grown bored of other games. This is something different. I decided to buy this game when I found that a trial version was installed on my computer. When the trial version didn't work I decided to buy it to see if the game was good and it is!!!Read full review...

The Sims (Deluxe Edition) (PC Games)

While there is a newer version of the Sims game out now(Sims 2) the classic, original Sims game is still a fun pastime. The game is fun and playable by ages 8 and up. There is some mildly adult humor and themes, but the game keeps everything discreet enough as to not be offensive to young children. The point of the Sims games is to control a person through everyday activities such as cleaning, working, paying bills, preparing food, relationships, marriage and even using the restroom. Creative types will love the building and decorating homes aspect of the game. Every detail of a Sim's home is customizable from the size of the house, furniture and placement, to the colors of the floors and walls, and hte plants in the garden. The Sims will always be a reliable source of fun and entertainment for those who enjoy open ended simulation games.Read full review...

Control virtual people's lives

These nostalgia games can't be beat. Good part is it's a time killer on a self isolation mundane day. Bad part is it's no longer supported by newer operating systems. Good news is there is a solution.

The Sims is a great game!

The Sims is a great game! Anyone who plays it will have fun creating their own place the way they want. Make the house from the ground up. Every wall, you put it there. Wallpaper, rugs, flooring tiles, windows, doors, countertops, appliances, plumbing, entertainment, furniture. EVERYTHING, you get to choose what goes in your house.

You have bills, and everything, just like real life. Keep your sleep, food, bladder, friendship up and you'll do good. Make skills such as mechanical/cooking and others to help fix things and cook better and get a better job. It gives the player an actual understandment of how the real world is.

Grow up and have kids (if you want) and they get to play with toys and make friends and things too. They must go to school and get good grades (sometimes some cash from grandpa for doing good). Life is in the palm of your hands.
