This Ain't Yo Momma's Video Game

Okay, I can honestly say that I have loved the Sims franchise ever since they decided to branch off from the PC. I consider myself a cut above the geeks who still sit hunchbacked in front of the screen, massaging their pocketprotectors and fiddling with the tape on their glasses. Sims 2 for the PS2 has brought playing make-believe to the 21st century, and all those who have secretly harbored a desire to play barbie dolls, can once again rejoin the rest of humanity.
Alright, let's go over the basics. The game doesn't really introduce anything overtly new or extraordinary for fear that gamers would rise up in angry retaliation. However, the game does look pretty darn good compared to its counterparts; The Sims and The Sims: Bustin Out. The characters actually look believable, and the gameplay runs smooth enough that you can play for hours at a time without food, water, or bathing. Believe you me, I've done it. And no, you STILL cannot see any bare naked sim flesh, and I still have no clue what they are saying.
Another new thing about this game is the conversation interaction mode-y thingy. Now, when you initate a conversation, the entire game seems to unfocus, and it's just you and whatever dope you've managed to corral into a conversation. Now you get to choose such prompts like "Check Out," "Card Trick," "Kicky Bag," "Confide," and my personal favorite, "Tell Dirty Joke." And no, that is no indication of just how mentally stunted I am.
Oh yeah, the newness also extends to the food you eat. Now when you go to the fridge, you can choose to pick what foods you will cook for supper or you can be lame and lazy and choose generic ingredients. If you're like me, I tend to choose those things that are easy on the pockets. Each ingredient costs a certain amount of simoleans and I have been none to make a meal for 8 bucks. Yes I know, how does she do it?
Let's see. Designing and dressing your sim is also done differently. Not only are there more choices-everything doesn't look as if it belonged in the 60s-but you can also alter your clothes to put your own personal spin on your outfit.
Now on to the bad and the downright ugly. On this game, they obviously thought that it wouldn't be necessary to let players stage their next action after their main action was completely. On the Sims 2, you have to wait till the previous action is completed before you go on to anything else. So while Bill the Specter is WooHooing with your girlfriend, you can't do anything because you're too busy taking a crap in the bathroom. Such is life.
Also, this game's objectives are a little screwy. When you complete an objective, you are given points and points are used to open new stuff. The only thing is, the objectives never seem to completely go away. I mean, one was "Sell a Painting," and I was like, "is that the best you got?" And they were like "yeah, that's pretty much it." Well, of course I sold the painting but 2 days later, guess what my objective was. To sell a f@#$%& painting! Argh!Foiled yet again. Also, it's pretty darn hard to cheat on this game. I have yet to see a F@#$%# gnome statue appear by my mailbox. It's okay, I'm not going to explode, my belly just has to be rubbed and I'm good to go
Overrall, the game LOOKS pretty darn good, and gameplay runs relatively uninterrupted. I'd recommend this game for any Sims fan, seeing as what there are only 4 games out for the PS2. And you don't want to slide back into the hellish world of PC gaming do you?

The Sims 2

I have really enjoyed this game so far. It gets a little tricky to play sometimes. In each new house you move into you have to help at least one of the people who live there. It's hard to complete their wants and your own persons wants at the same time. Usually I just focus on the person who lives there so I can keep moving through the game. It's also hard to keep your Sim's friends while you play since they have virtually no time between work and fulfilling their daily needs.

Pros:

-New places to visit all the time.
-You can skip going to work more often, just make sure they don't miss two days in a row.
-New wardrobe.

Cons:

-You can't have children.
-You can't have any pets.
-The fire hazard thing is ridiculous. If you buy too many objects you will violate the fire hazard rule, and objects in your house will start setting on fire until you remove some objects.

Some other facts:

-You can be married to more than one person.
-You can die and become a ghost, and can be brought back to life if you pay the Grim Reaper $100.

All in all, you are much better off buying the computer game.

Fairly decent game

I bought this game a few weeks ago and I was thrilled. The game has MANY new features that the first game lacked, including 2 player story and freeplay modes, and was a very eventful and challenging change of gaming for me. The only thing that I disliked about this game is that the loading screens take a bit longer then I would have liked, so you sometimes wonder if the game has frozen. However; if you just give it a moment it will all run smoothly again. I would definately recommend buying this game if you like simulation games or just are bored with your own life and want to be in control for a change!Read full review...

The Sims 2 for Playstation 2

I love the different movement system using the analog stick. I think the time/need ratio is a little lame.. If you get a job its very difficult to take care of everything when you're home before its time to work again. Many neat features in this game though, including recipes and goals, as well as fears. A great balance between the PC and PS2 Sims games. I also love the create a sim options and the genetics system.Read full review...

The Sims 2 (for PlayStation 2)

As a huge Sims game fan, I have to say that this particular one was exactly how I thought it would be. A canvas for anyone who wants to show their creativity to fill up. It had more items, more options, more clothing, and more customizations. There were some faults though. Unlike the Sims 2 pets or other sims 2 games, you could not see the airial shot of the lot you were building in, which made it very difficult to build houses and place items in. Other than a few minor setbacks though, this game was another wonderful collectors item that EA Games has created. I will recommend this item if you enjoy The Sims games and expressing yourself through simulated adventure.Read full review...

The Sims 2 for PS2

I love the Sims games. This one has so much more to offer than the previous version. The game can be addicting!! It is pretty much just like the previous Sims games, however, the controls are better. The action and graphics are SO much better (obviously since the technology has gotten better). If you like the original Sims for the playstation, then this is a must have.

The only thing I don't like about it, is that you can't bring people back from the dead like you can on the Sims 2 version for the PC.

. * . Ya win some.. Ya lose some . * .

Eh,

I own Sims, Sims Bustin' Out, and Sims 2 all on PS2. My favorite is Sim's Bustin' Out.

There were some better aspects of this game compared to Bustin' Out and some worse...

Let's start with the Positives:

+The graphics: They are much better in Sims2. You can really see everything with more detail.

+The Characters: I like that you can alter the appearance of anyone that is in your control in a home by going to the wardrobe... not just your Sim.

+The Locations: Again there was a bit more variety here. Nice detailing.

+The occupations: Similar- but not the same. You get to be an artist, which I liked.

Now with the Negatives:
- The controls are more difficult. I didn't like the super speed thing.

- The game is more about controlling everyone around you. You have more goals to fill the goals of others, even ghosts in some instances.

- FIRE! FIRE! That seriously got annoying. Not only do you have less selection to choose from when it comes to buying and decorating with things, but everytime you exceed a 'Fire Code' limit something literally bursts into flames. Moving objects too much, buying too much, even accidentally, causes a fire. Unlike Bustin' Out where you can max out your spending and then can resell items to buy new ones.. in Sims2 if you hit max fire code violation and resell items or delete them you don't get much chance to buy anything new. Stupid!

- Relationships were way more complicated here. The whole shades of color in the background and basically going into a talking mode with people was kinda dumb. It takes way more time to get someone to like you than in Bustin' Out. It's drawn out and you can't really casually talk to more than one person.

Well... that's what I can tell you. You'll have to decide for yourself. Happy Gaming!

Just as fun as it use to be!

Back when I first met my s/o, we had this game for Xbox and we played it all the time. Here we are, about 12 years later and we decided to get a ps2 just so we could get Sims 2 and spend time on that together. We started it up and there was all that nostalgia. The game is still fun 12(?) years later!Read full review...

i love it

First of all, I like the game because I love the sims, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I didn't read the review on the playstation 2 version and took for granted that it would be like the pc version. I bought a playstation 2 in order to buy this game so I could play it. A playstation 2 was cheaper than another computer. My computer is too slow for a dvd player and is under 500 Mhz. Anyway, in this game some of the aspirations you need to fill are crazy! LOL! You can't have any kids, like everyone else is saying and your person can obviously be married to more than one person. Only one level on housing also. :( It's just kinda crazy! I will still play this game until I can get a better computer and the Sims 2 computer version. It's still a great game! It's just not what I had expected.Read full review...
