Skies of Acadia what can I say that hasn't been said??

Nothing its an amazing game. You can just fallow the value trends of it for game cube or dreamcast its going up up up and that's not without cause. If its your 1st time playing you should know it is an old turn based rpg. Now that's a good thing if you like that (I do) it has aged well and plays like the timeless game it is. And if your a fan returning to it. Well the game cube game has a few extras, tho the sound quality took a small hit as it is more compressed then on the dreamcast. How ever it is going for about 50 to 70$ less the the dreamcast version. Take your pick you'll enjoy both for sure!Read full review...

Highly recommended if you enjoy turn based RPGs.

Skies of Arcadia Legends is the Gamecube remake of the Dreamcast game Skies of Arcadia. Legends includes a few new in game items and characters, a few graphical enhancements, much better load times, and less random battles (but more experience).

Game Play
This is a turn based RPG (think original Final Fantasy). To keep the battles from getting overly monotonous the game has you fighting both on foot and using your powerful air ship. These ship-to-ship battles are extremely fun and one of the best parts of the game.

Story
The story is fairly common amongst RPGs and SciFi. A rare mineral (moon stones) are highly sought after. Our hero, Vyse an air pirate, encounters a mysterious person who has lost their memory. The story gets much more involved as the player becomes emotionally attached to the characters and the secrets of the world are revealed.

Graphics
The graphics show their age, since this game is basically a port from the Dreamcast. Characters are very blocky, and look even more so on modern day HD TVs. Older gamers will appreciate the retro look of the game, while younger gamers will associate the graphics with something on their phone which might turn some off.

Audio
The sound track for SoAL is top notch! Very dramatic full orchestral songs keep the game fresh through the entire game. I would highly recommend buying the OST. Unfortunately, the album, Eternal Arcadia, was only release in Japan, but you can find it to buy on Ebay.

I highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoys turn based RPGs. The enhancements to Legends over the original, and the fact that Legends can be played on the Gamecube or Wii, make it the obvious choice.

these old games have heart

theres no better time in gaming history in my opinion than the ps2/gamecube era. its the golden age for me. this game is good from what I've played. no voice acting but that's ok. lush, imaginative lahdscapes and bosses. what the developers did despite technical limitations, that's all part of the charm. if PlayStation doesn't put in the ability to play the old games on their new system its gonna be a real shame. Absolutely gorgeous and gripping game

I've been a fan of Final Fantasy ever since I played 7 and 9. This completely exceeded my expectations in every way! The characters are excellently crafted, the gameplay is fun and addictive, the story is amazing, the soundtrack is beautiful and the world of Arcadia is so gorgeous to look at! Thanks so much for this game and I thank you also for giving extra padding inside the case, I've been burned by that several times before. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to anyone who's a fan of Final Fantasy or any turn-based RPG. 6 out of 5 stars!!!Read full review...

Skies of Arcadia is a must-play for all self-respecting RPG fans

RPGS simply do not get any better than Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast, and Legends gave the game a minor (though noticeable) facelift, added a couple new sidequests, reduced random enconuters, increased battle experience, and increased the number of discoveries in the game.

This game is a completionist's dream game with several different things to collect:
CHAMS: Power up a party member's weapon by collecting all of these (usually hiding in weird, out of the way places in port towns and dungeons) and feeding them to her pet.

DISCOVERIES: As you explore the skies, you can discover new lands, creatures, myths, and people. Some of the discoveries cannot be missed (they are story-based), but many of them require some time and skill to find. You are not the only one looking for them, however, so you have to act fast if you want to be paid for what you've found!

CREW MEMBERS: Your main party consists of three set party members with a rotating spot for the fourth, but your ship still needs a crew! Crew members may be recruited from all over the map and each add a different power up or ability to your ship or party. Collecting all of the crew members opens up a "Blue Rogues" attack that can be used by the main party in battle.

CAPTAIN'S STRIPES: This item is earned as a reward for being awesome an awesome sky pirate (generally after long ship battles). They are used to power-up your ship.

BOUNTIES: Like the discoveries, some of the bounties are very easy to encounter, others must be sought out. These are tough, optional battles for an advanced player that add a great deal of challenge to the game.

MOONFISH: Also found in towns and dungeons, collecting these feeds a bird... which earns you rare items. Quirky new sidequest for the GC version.

Battle is one of the areas where Skies of Arcadia shines. There are two types of battles you will encounter:
ON-FOOT: These battles occur in dungeons or while sailing the skies in the form of random encounters. These are fairly standard turn-based RPG style battles with a twist - your party is limited to a certain number of "action points," so you need to strategically choose how you want to use them.

SHIP BATTLES: Ship battles are slightly more strategic, though they also use the AP system mentioned above. Ship battles, especially early in the game, are more of a puzzle than a battle, looking for an opening to use your strongest weapon to take the other ship down.

The story of Skies of Arcadia is a tried-and-true RPG trope at first glance, but the further you go into the game, the deeper you will dive into the characters and their stories. This game is one of the few where I was caught completely wrong-footed by a plot twist - more than once.

Finally, the graphics - the graphics are actually one of the strongest parts of this game, dated as it is. The world is brightly colored and alive - there are never parts of the game where I get sick of looking at dull, coffee-colored map for hours on end. This is a nice break from the "realistic" WWII shooters that saturate the game market, these days.

Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast was a perfect game. Legends brought it into a new generation and it remains relevant today. This is a must-play for RPG fans, completionists, or just anyone looking for a good, solid game.

BUY and keep it forever!

This is an amazing game, i bought it from my brother and played through it honestly over 10 times then regrettably sold my entire game cube stock including this game, then i bought another game cube and bought this game again, traded it in for credit at gamestop and now this will be my third time buying it again and i wont ever sell it again even if i get ride of the cube, Great story line plenty of side quests and heavy replay value, as others have said watching some long cinematics while replaying it can be a drag but its well worth it in my opinion and if your complaining about it possibly having childish artwork you ARE playing a GAME so get over it we care about gameplay here. And also on a side note this is a remake of the original dreamcast version but with revisions, such as the added moonfish sidequest which is a long one on its own, less random enemy encounters which is still kind of high, the "Angel of death sidequest, as well as more discoveries and an updated wanted list with more characters on it, and the side quests do tie into the storyline heavily, im not sure if it affects the ending but they do fill you in on things that otherwise you wouldnt know. also here are some scores from wikipedia this is not my own writing and i do not claim to have any part in it other than showing it to you.

IGN gave the game a 9.2, praising it for its "solid overall visuals, lively and appealing characters, excellent use of camera angles, and some of the coolest mechanical designs for the airships". GameSpot gave the game a 9.2 as well, also praising the visuals, stating that they were "some of the most painstakingly detailed ever seen in a role-playing game". As a whole, GameSpot concluded that the game "lives up [to] the high expectations". Game Informer also listed it as one of the top 10 Dreamcast games.

Its a great game cherish it and enjoy it, truly one of the greats up there with chrono cross, chrono trigger, breath of fire 1,2,3, and even final fantasy for you people out there.

The RPG that made me love them

In a rush of retrogaming fun, I recently decided to re-buy some historical titles and among these the shining Skyes of Arcadia, maybe the last Sega masterpiece, already played in the immortal Dreamcast long ago and now enriching my precious cube collection.
This has been the very first RPG ever played. Just a few hours to get used to commands, characters and battles handling were enough to live a real experience made of epic land and air battles, funny dialogues and intriguing plot.
Graphics are remarkable still today, very coloured and detailed.
Game absolutely recommended to anyone!

'Skies' Not your every day RPG

With a completely original storyline and turn-based combat, 'Skies' is a beautiful, fantastical RPG that fans of the genre will find easy to pick up. The storyline does not stagnate, and pulls apart from others of its kind, by setting the tale in a time of floating islands and Sky Pirates.

The gameplay itself is easy to pick up on, and controlling your ship is intuitive. The environments are lush and beautiful. While exploring is one of your main pastimes in the game, there are a few sections that lead you around by the nose.

My main complaint about this game, would be the long cinematics for special moves. Sure as they get up there, they're pretty neat to watch, but after the twentieth time or so, it gets a little old.

Also, don't be decieved by the "kiddie-style" graphics. This is a game that is sure to entertain those of all ages, and may even frustrate it's younger players by being a little too vague here and there.

Ship vs ship fights are long, and mandatory more often than not. Not necessarily a good thing. Dont expect to enjoy these battles, until you get your big cannon that is.

All in all, a great game for the dreamcast, fortunately ported over to the GameCube for the rest of us.

If you like a solid RPG experience, then definitely pick this up.

Skies of Arcadia Legends is a port of the very underrated Dreamcast classic Skies of Arcadia. It stars a very upbeat protagonist which is rare in a JRPG. Skies of Arcadia takes place in the sky (if you couldn't guess.) Exploration is heavily favored here because some side quests require you to gather crew members and find discoveries to fill up your pirate's log. This game also features sky battles where you fight other airships and monsters in the sky. This game boasts a wide variety of magic, healing, and weaponry to equip your characters as well as a charming story that will keep you playing for hours. As well as a ton of sidequests and other unlockables.Read full review...
