Hedgehog homage on the 3DS

The first thing I want to call attention to is the fact that the 3DS version of this game was co-developed by Dimps, a company with a favorable legacy in terms of Sonic's appearances on handhelds. That sense of "legacy" shows in the expert craftsmanship of the game's levels: they are neither too similar nor too far separated from their inspiration and pack a number of subtle twists that prove inviting for high score experimentation.

The core of this version's appeal is in level replay which I have no qualms toward considering as they are some of the best I have played since the Mega Drive days. Invite your friend's over or play over wifi to compete for best times head to head in versus mode or alternatively, submit your scores to a global rankings board in time attack mode.

What I found most irking here is the collection system for bonuses outside of the core game. Given as this was released early in the 3DS lifespan, it's understandable that the manufacturers wanted to take advantage of the console's features and in this case, Generations makes a huge stride for Street Pass to unlock more in the game. This would be fine and dandy if it weren't for the fact that users who don't take advantage of the feature are left with a lot of empty spaces under the missions and collectable sounds and art pieces subheadings. These items can still be unlocked without but at a FAR slower pace and Sonic simply doesn't tolerate such impotence!

Nonetheless, I found this overlookable when compared to the fun, faithful and addicting nature of the game's levels and soundtrack. If you find yourself craving some good classic and neo-classic Sonic levels with a modern overhaul, then look no further as Sonic Generations has got you covered!

If you're a hardcore Sonic fan, get this game. If not, get the PS3 version.

I bought this game because I have always been intrigued by Sonic games. So when this game was released and I heard it featured Classic Sonic for the first time since before Sonic Adventure I just had to buy it.
I liked the gameplay aspect of it. Classic Sonic felt ALMOST like he did back in the day and Modern Sonic controlled like a DREAM. He was much more fluid than he was in the RUSH titles. However, the game was a bit on the short side and the difficulty in collecting Chaos Emeralds was a bit low. I got them all on my first tries. Also, I've never been a fan of rankings in Sonic games.
However, it is still a better title than what SEGA was releasing before Sonic 4 and Colors.

Lots of fun, especially if you enjoy a good throwback!

I don’t usually buy the handfeld equivalent to console games, but this iteration of Sonic Generations features a host of the stages I know and love. From a pure nostalga standpoint, the game delivers by bringing back fun stages from the yesteryear and rekindles the experiences with a new twist on classic bosses.

Between the revamped stages and the awesome music, there is quite a bit to love here. The mission system and vs. multiplayer ensures that there will be something to do in this game well into the future. While I wouldn’t say its better than its console counterpart, I do think this is a solid game that is great for a handheld system. Its worth a look if your reaching to find a good 3DS game, and you’ve already burned through Zelda.

Not very interesting for 7 & 9 yr olds

My grandson's quickly grew bored with this; played a couple times last year and not touched it since.

Old Sonic new fun

The game looks great overall, difficulty is great im an experienced sonic gamer and some levels are hard for me to get a perfect score but if you are not looking for perfect score then is not much of a challenge but doesnt mean its a piece of cake.
3d effect is lovely even if u dont use 3d u can still see how the character get far away n close to the screen specially on the loops. Classic sonic is what u've expericenced back in 1991 jumps and spinning while new sonic has turbo and jump chain attack, its a great feeling having both old an new in a new way.
Im a fan of Sonic but the recent games are crap except for the game boy and nintendo ds so im glad that they ignited the spark for my love for sonic with this game.
