Sony A55V great value

Hi all, I just want everyone to know that this is a wonderful camera. I am a retired disabled professional film photographer who wanted to use my Minolta film camera lens collection on a digital camera , so I bought a Sony Alpha camera. This camera works wonderful with my Minolta "AF" lenses. The features on the camera will get you real close to a professional level for image quality. The auto focus works great. The auto shutter speeds and f stops puts you right in the ball park for exposure. I have not had it for very long so as with any different camera anyone would use it takes some time to sort through all the features and settings and decide which ones are best for your style of photography. There is a lot of information on the internet about these cameras. My comment is it is well worth the buy for the cost, and additional lenses are not that expensive. I hope this helps with any ones decision on a purchase of one of these. Happy shooting.Read full review...

Sony SLT-A55

I am an armature photographer and purchased this camera as an upgrade to my Sony A230. The camera is very simple to use, whether it using the preset or manual settings. The picture and video quality is great. The only negative I have is the battery life, good for only about 350 shots.Read full review...

A huge improvement to the Sony 100.

I have had an autofocus 500mm Sony lens, but it took too long to lock on and focus when you are photographing moving people, etc. The Alpha A55 makes the lens focus almost instantly. A great camera.

Upgraded from the Alpha A380 to get movie capability

I wanted movie capability so I upgraded from the Alpha A380. I also love the ability to rotate and twist the LCD to just about any position desired. I use the A55 with my wide range of Minolta Maxxum lenses and now I'm back into photography as a hobby after a multi-year hiatus.Read full review...

Great camera

I ordered this to replace my other SLT-A55 which stopped working after having it for over 7 years. Great camera! I love that I can see the exposure and what the photo will look like before taking it.Read full review...

I Love this Camera-Quality Build & Pics-Easy to use-Best Value even at List

I Love this camera! I've been a loyal Minolta user for a long time. When they merged with Sony I bought the A-100 and used it a lot. It was a great camera. When Sony came out with the NEX I was thinking of upgrading but wasn't to sure if the NEX would work for me. I then started looking at the A-33 & the A-55. After a lot of research on the 33 & 55, & selections from Canon & Nikon, I decided on the A-55 & I'm Very Happy with my decision!
The features are great, controls are easy, Build & picture quality are excellent. It's a little smaller & lighter than the a-100 so it was a little bit of an adjustment for my big hands but I got used to it pretty quickly. The internal anti-shake feature is improved from the a-100. It's very fast in every mode. If you get this camera upgrade the software in the camera to version 2.0 & you'll get even more features that are fun & functional. Also, you'll want to get an extra battery or two. The battery doesn't last as long as the a-100 because it's smaller. It still lasts for a reasonable period of time though. It should be noted that I'll leave the camera on for long periods a lot.
The HD movie feature works great..better than I expected!!! I bought this has a still camera, so the movie function was an extra that didn't really play into my decision to buy this camera but I'm really impressed with it. It's really easy to use & I might actually start to add video to my artistic abilities. I just have to develop my ability to look at scenes in video instead of stills. The only drawback is you won't be able to shoot a movie longer than 5 min. The camera sensor heats up & you'll get a warning. A little after the warning the camera will shut down & you'll have to let it cool off. If you're shooting video in the desert you might only get 2-3 min of recording time till you have to let it cool down. I got about 4 1/2 when I was sweating in a crowd at a Festival last week. It was really hot in the crowd! I let it cool for 2-3 min & then was shooting again!
I highly recommend this camera! It's as good as some of the $2000 cameras. Definitely worth the money! Do your research & read the reviews. It earned Camera of the Year last year for good reason!

Small, Light, easy to use, and F-A-S-T!!!

Fastest Auto Focus DSLR I have ever used.

I poo poo'ed the "Translucent" Mirror tech when it first appeared figuring just another trick to get me to buy yet another camera. But when I found this one on sale on eBay I gave into the temptation. I am glad I did!

Small as Sony's 330 Alpha but with a slightly more extended grip for the right hand it fell into my hands like it belonged there. Even with the Sony standard kit lens it is fast and accurate, I can use it with the ease of a point and shoot or exercise full creative control all with the spin of the menu dial.

As with all SLR's and DSLR's picture quality is more about your lenses than it is the camera. What I like about this camera though is it doesn't get in the way. I have not yet lost a "moment" because the camera was seeking focus. I lift it up and it starts focusing before I even compose the shot. And as for shooting multiple images on the fly? Wow, It's now hard to pick the best shot of a series based on focus or exposure. It's now ALL about the composition.

I can't wait for the unlimited Hydroplane season to start. With his camera and my Minolta "Big Beercan" lens I may finally get that shot that goes up on the wall in my Man Cave.

Good purchase and clean camera

Roger,

If I could only tell you in these trying times how much THAT little Sony camera has brought to us filming our hummingbirds in Louisiana - you would be pleased. I would like to send a few photos if you wish - those birds are so cool!Read full review...

Excellent for travel.

Professionals ought to think about their professional field first of all. So, if you are a professional photographer you are going to forget about the weight of your baggage or size of the case in your hands. But how is it if you are a bit tired of all this heavy stuff and do not earn money with photography but you are still a photographer? Well, now we have this kind of solution. You can take your A55/A35 almost anywhere having use of it's valued features without any loss of comfort. It is small and light and you can't point out any serious bug in it. From the part of SONY the only way to make this camera seriously better would be either to provide a kind of energy saving mode or a more capacious battery.Read full review...

What you see is way less then what you get

I am in love with this cameras abilities. The sony a55 is comparable to cameras twice its cost.
The SLT shutter technology allows you to actually see what your going to get, no more judging by the meter reading alone, you have a fully capable creative machine in your hands.
Once you get your bearings with this camera you can accomplish really anything in my opinion. The adjust-ability is remarkable compared to other traditional SLR cameras that i have used.
Ive used this camera for almost a month now and its just great, the 10fps continuous focus mode works great, not to mention the GPS device, panorama, 3D panorama, and HDR features.
