Older but excellent Cyber Shot

I like the HX-5v. It's compact and takes good quality pictures. It's true that 10 mp are enough for quality photos. Takes a G battery, which is easy to obtain at a decent price.

10 Megapixels Is good enough

This is an older point and shoot. Actually has better image quality than the 16MP version. HD Video is good enough too. Sadly it doesn't shoot RAW files. If it did this would be the perfect pocket camera for the $25 I paid for it here on eBay. Nice lens, many nice features and settings.Read full review...

Picture quality is awesome and very user friendly!!

I bought this after my Olympus drowned in the lake.I have owned a couple Kodak's and a Canon.I bought this HX5V Cybershot specifically for the 10xzoom and the panorama sweep features. My Kodak I also bought because of same reasons but,the zoom was a little better the panorama was ok.Every camera I've owned has had there own little feature I liked about it.So there is no real"favorite"...I was skeptical about Sony but, after days of reading reviews etc.I'm glad I tried them out!!!..What I love the most is the quality/clarity of the pictures!!Also very good pictures with night/shade/dark lights!!!You can take a picture of something and try all the different features and pretty much get a different shade/color picture in all!! ...I would give this 5 stars but,the only down fall for me is the size/weight.Still small and fits in your pocket but,i prefer a thinner and lighter camera...Overall happy with this camera!!Read full review...

Ótima! Recomendo a compra!! Pequena Notável!!!

Equipped with GPS, digital compass, transferring images and video with wireless technology TransferJet, panning controlled by accelerometer and video capturing in high definition (1080i) in the AVCHD format, it is easy to forget that the Sony Cyber-shot DSC -HX5V is a camera. And it's a great camera, among the best we've seen this year in the item picture quality.

Lensor with 10 megapixel and optical lens with 10x zoom (25mm to 250mm), the DSC-HX5V captured some of the best-ranked images in our subjective tests of quality, leading in points such as quality exposure and color accuracy between megazoom recently tested. Sharpness and levels of distortion were less impressive, and the quality of video got behind the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS and the Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS5-, giving the DSC-HX5V a rating of "Good" overall.

Although the notes in the test image in our laboratories are impressive, they tell only half the story. When you put the DSC-HX5V in his hands and uses it in the day-to-day, he discovers that this megazoom pocket has some of the most innovative and entertaining ever found in a camera. It is great when taking pictures under low light flash, create panoramic images and correct images in daylight.

These strengths are courtesy of three modes that can be accessed quickly through a control at the top of the camera: Handheld Twilight, which takes six consecutive images at different exposure values and combines them to create a crisp, perfectly exposed photo, the way Intelligent Sweep Panorama, which allows push the shutter button once and simply move the camera from side to side to create a panoramic picture perfect and Backlight Correction HDR, which takes multiple shots in backlit photos at different exposure levels and the overlap for highlight the details of the foreground.

The function of "geotagging" (marking photos with GPS coordinates of where they were taken) works, but this function is tied to your computer. Although the DSC-HX5V automatically select the photos as they are drawn (provided you are outdoors), you need to install the Picture Motion Browser software (included) on a Windows PC and download the photos to be able to do something with this information. Drag and drop pictures to the interface Mapview in the program to indicate where they were taken. Unfortunately, there is the same convenience of GPS in real time from Samsung HZ35W.

The battery life is good, with 310 pictures on one battery charge. However, if you use the DSC-HX5V with GPS enabled all the time, the autonomy will be reduced significantly.

For photographers veterans missing in the Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V important features: can not really shoot in RAW, and although the camera has a full manual mode that lets you adjust the aperture and shutter speed independently, it has no priority modes. Is a camera designed for casual photographers. Still, the image quality of the DSC-HX5V, its performance in low light and innovative features are enough to enchant anyone.

The Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V accepts memory cards in either SD / SDHC and Memory Stick Pro Duo (Sony propritário). You can use only one type of card at a time, since the slot inside the camera is unique. It is one of two Cyber-shot models that supports peer-to-peer with devices compatible with standard TransferJet. However, there are many in the market and you need a special Memory Stick compatible with TransferJet to share pictures and videos without using wires.

There is no doubt: the Sony Cyb

The Best Point and Shoot Camera I have ever seen or had. Best value too!

* Love the Hand held twilight mode.

* Camera looks small but full of features.

* Best camera around for people who take pictures in Program Auto or Scene modes like twilight.

* iSweep panorama takes wonderful smooth pictures.

* 10X zoom is powerful and you get to use the zoom while recording video.

* Although I use the 720p mode all the time to record video (for the file size factor), the 1080p/60i is very clear and smooth.

* The only problem I could think of is when you look very closely, sometimes in average lighting, pictures tend to be somewhat smooth but give it a good amount of light or very low light, the camera works great! I found some pictures usable (without grains) even at ISO1600 to ISO3200 which is awesome for a point and shoot!

* I use 8gb Class 6 SD card and it takes ~1700 photos in 10MP and ~170 mins of video in 720p mode.

* If you look at the competition, Canon has SD4000 with good features but only 4X zoom and SD4500 has 10X zoom but not so many features (not even wide angle lens). I don't care about Nikon or Panasonic as they are generally over priced and don't take good close up shots unless you have an SLR.

* So this Camera is the best option for a person who wants to take excellent quick photos during day or night and use full 10X zoom without blur or shake. Full worth for its price! Thank you Sony!

* Note: If you are looking for even higher zoom and better lens, you have the option to buy the HX9V or HX100V. Don't buy the H70(no Exmor R CMOS sensor i.e. no low light sensor) or HX7V - it is no better than the 5V except the price and megapixel rating (which is of no use).

Probably as advanced as it gets!

If you are the kind of person who prefers to leave your camera in "auto" mode and don't pixelpeep, stop looking this is THE camera for you.

* Allways gets me the picture I want, not the one I would expect, the intelligent auto focus is just that really smart...

* The panorama feature is like walking around with a fish eye lens in your pocket, that turns 10x zoom when you need it.

* Low light pic's turn out great, amongst the best I've seen from a compact camera (albeit a bit soft).

* Full hd recordings look just awesome, leave the handycam at home and you can easily burn blue ray discs at home, cool!

* Sony has finally got it right, not only does it take sd cards (unlike old sony's), they ship it with an HDMI adapter in the box, no need for expensive accesories, good job!

So is it perfect?

Well nothing is offcourse, there is a trade off...

- I used to like having more manual control, i do realize that this camera actually takes better pictures automatically then I ever did fidgeting about, but still I miss being able to if I wanted it...

- Pictures are clearly soft and since you can't change much manually you can't change sharpening, they're nice enough but again soft. This is true of many compact cameras out there, but the lens appears to be very upscale so its a pitty you can't squeeze out the inherent detail.

All in all, this is clearly a new generation of camera, quite different from all others I have used (and thats many). Try one out, I'll bet you you end up buying it!

Sony Cyber-shot HX5V Digital Camera

Sony may be new to the travel-zoom game, but they've certainly made a bold entrance with the CyberShot DSC-HX5, which offers virtually all of the key features that several of its rivals collectively offer, wrapped-up in an easy-to-use package with an eminently sensible 10 megapixel sensor. We're struggling to think of a first-generation product that gets so much right and so little wrong as the DSC-HX5. It may not have the bigger 14x zoom, high-resolution LCD screen or more megapixels that its key rivals offer, but it does combine an awful lot of well-chosen wish-list features that instantly propel it to the status of serious contender for the travel-zoom crown.

The 10 megapixel backlit sensor provides excellent results from ISO 125-800, with only the fastest settings of 1600 and 3200 suffering from too much noise and smearing of fine detail. Chromatic aberrations were well controlled and colours accurate, and the 25-250mm lens commendably didn't suffer from much distortion at either end of the zoom range. The Manual mode lets you set a shutter speed of up to 30 seconds for effective night-time shooting, and if you don't want to use a tripod, the Hand-held Twilight mode delivers great results. Sony's ever popular Sweep Panorama mode now copes admirably with moving subjects, while the new Backlight Correction HDR feature dramatically increases the detail in the shadow and highlight areas.

In addition to the excellent still images, the Sony GX5 is one of the few digital compacts to offer full 1080i video recording, gaining the upper hand on its rivals. You can use the 10xzoom during recording, sound is stereo rather than mono, and the AVCHD format ensures that file sizes don't get out of control. The built-in GPS also works well, unobtrusively and reliably recording your every movement, although the camera takes a few minutes to sync with one or more satellites and the battery life is reduced by around 25% if you leave it constantly switched on.

The addition of a fully Manual shooting mode is very welcome, although I missed the Aperture and Shutter Priority modes that several rivals offer, and only offering two possible apertures does somewhat limit what you can achieve. Beginners shouldn't be scared off the HX5 either, as Sony's excellent hand-holding Intelligent Auto mode is as effective as the competition's, with an even more straight-forward Easy mode available for complete point-and-shoot novices.

And we haven't even mentioned the frankly astonishing 10fps burst shooting mode, welcome support for Secure Digital as well as Sony's own format, and a price-tag that while not cheap is at least on a par with the other main contenders. In short, the Sony CyberShot DSC-HX5 is an excellent camera with no major flaws.

Great camera, poor GPS

I like the easiness of the camera, since I am not a camera aficionado. The intelligent setting is pretty good for almost all situations. But be careful when using flash on dark places, you may get a few white spots on your photo.
If you have a Mac and want to use the GPS, good luck, you better have Boot Camp installed, or a friend with a Windows PC, otherwise it will not work.
The audio recording is in a place that can be accidentally covered by your fingers, but once you get used to it, it is great HD video recording with good quality stereo audio.

Overall good camera, with some room for improvement.

Great little camera

Clean photos, long lasting battery, light weight. RAW capability. Small foot print. No direct black and white or monochrome.

Why spend more for an HX9V when the older HX5V is almost as great?

For half the price of the newer HX9V you get just two improvements that I'll likely never need as a non-professional photographer. This HX5V camera has 10X zoom and 10.2 MP. I don't see the need to have huge files shooting at 16 MP...I don't print photos larger than 8x10. 10X zoom starts at the same wide angle (25mm)as the HX9V and telephoto ends at 250mm which unless you're shooting a space shuttle launch from 8 miles away I don't see the need for a zoom that goes to 380mm. All the other really cool features are the same like isweep panorama, smile detection, automatic corrections for great photos and HDMI video for a 1080p TV. There are some slight case improvements that make the HX9V easier to hold and the flash and mics are located better but if you can find this older model new or used it is definately worth the money.Read full review...

Great GPS encoding camera

I travel frequently and bought this camera because of it's GPS encoding feature. Downside is that it takes a minute or 2 to lock on to satellites. I usually shoot in 16x9 format and in this frame size this camera is only 7 megapixels.
HD video is great, so much so that I leave my dedicated HD video cameras at home 'cause this camera fits nicely in my pocket.
