The best camera you can put in your pocket period.

When the original RX100 came out I sold the small camera. My wife bought me the RX-100 as a birthday gift. I used it a lot. I also have a full frame DSLR. The big camera was not getting much use. Over time I did find a few things I wish the camera had. The lens is so fast, there were some kinds of pictures I just could not take, slowing down water to make it fluffy. The other frustration was working in bright light. I found myself kind of doing a point and shoot, not really any kind of composition, I did a lot of post production work to get the picture I was looking for. Two things I wished the original camera had a natural density filter and a view finder for when things are too bright out side. I guess Sony listens. The RX-100M3 has both those things and like a good poker game they saw me and raised me one. The RX-100M3 also has an articulating screen so when you want to take a picture over head, you can see what you are pointing at as well as when your subject is down low. The original was fantastic, the M3 is even better. I have not really been on any trips since I got it where I would take my DSLR and the Sony, so I don't really know if I am going to be using it more than my DSLR but seeing the improvement they have made and how they were the exact things I was wishing the original had, I think my DSLR will be getting a break.Read full review...

Viewfinder is useless!

I bought this camera on the strength of the reviews (both professional and non) and on a recommendation from a camera store. I have to say, I'm very disappointed. While the images are good, this camera is NOT easy to use. My first and biggest beef is that the viewfinder is unusable. Had I known I couldn't use the viewfinder, I would've bought the model that's $200 cheaper. The camera is difficult to hold while shooting--I had to get a leather case for it or I'm sure I would've dropped it. It's small and slick and imbalanced. The fact that the view screen is exposed is a terrible design. But the WORST thing about this camera is that it takes FOREVER for the lens to retract. It's about 10 seconds, which is ridiculous. I took this camera on vacation and it was incredibly frustrating to have to stand and wait after every shot for the lens to retract (really annoyed my travelling companion, too). I love to shoot pics while travelling but I don't want it to be my whole purpose, which is why I don't use an SLR with multiple lenses. The last thing that's annoying about this camera is that you have to go through a lot of rigamarole to change the settings.

I'm obviously in the minority as everyone seems to love this camera, but I prefer the Canons for ease of use.

Incredible features and control, plus point-and-shoot ease - love it!

Easy to use is a bad question to answer for this camera. This is a highly sophisticated camera, pro-sumer kinda device. It has a 'plethora' of user selectable options that will take months of average use to understand, much less master. But, it has spectacular 'point and shoot' intelligence - which makes it a fun camera to just take along. If you want to go animal on settings, it can fulfill most every wish, but if you want to take the best snaps at the 'party' and hand it off to friends to point and click - boom, you get that too.
I am a believer that there is no substitute for a fast lens - f1.8 here. And having used it just a bit so far, I am confirmed again in my want. Maybe you can zoom in more with a lot of (and even the latest RX100 V and Canon), but they all give you horribly slow lens performance - f3.X - and you can't fake real depth of field control with slow glass (well, I guess Apple tries as a post process thing...). I would rather have a great image I can crop and zoom than a poor version zoomed in. So far it exceeds my expectations, and it passes my 'smile' test: If I see that the designers built a feature that is really cool and makes me smile - that is great - and the RX/III does all and more!

Exceptional, professional image quality.

Having only shot with Nikon DSLRs, I wanted a professional quality point & shoot camera that was compact, easy and fun to use, and would give me exceptional images. This camera is all of the above. It provides superior results in all situations. It's ability to capture detail in low light is amazing. Video capture is outstanding. It is very portable and has many advanced features packed into a tiny body. I'm extremely pleased with this camera and highly recommend it to both beginning and seasoned professional photographers.Read full review...

Sony RXIII /M3 Great Camera!

I purchased this camera about 3 weeks ago and finally had the time, and a beautiful place to take it for a spin. I love the fact that it is so compact, yet packed with so many great features. The view finder is a real plus, it worked great for me. I also like the tilting screen, because there were times when the sun was on the screen and made it hard to see the subject. I also like the fact that you don't have to carry a battery charger to charge the camera. I used the camera for 4 straight days, taking lots of pictures before it needed a charge.
So far I have used the auto focus, and intelligent auto focus while taking pictures. I have yet to dig into some of the manual settings. The photos I have taken so far are pretty amazing and don't require any special software. The colors are really true, and the images are very sharp when you need them to be. I even shot some photos at night with a full moon and the photos were very clear, so the low light factor is very good.
The only thing I would not give this camera an A+ on is the price. It is quite expensive for a point and shoot, but I'm still very happy with the camera.

Amazing capabilities for its size

After a week of using this camera, it is on its way to being one of the best I have ever owned. After decades of being a loyal Canon owner, this one has changed my allegiance. The size is tiny but the photos are exceptional. And no none does video better than Sony.

It takes a while to learn the menu and all of the features but you will not be disappointed. Even though this model of the RX100 series has been out for 5 years, it still consistently rates as one of the best point and shoot cameras on the market.

Purchasing it through eBay made it an outstanding value.

As much camera as I'll ever need!

Tried a friends and liked it. Considered the lower models, but wanted the EVF. Pics are great, good depth, color and coverage, and very sharp(great lens!). A lot of bang for the buck, even though it's pricey. Need to drop the picture size for easy emailing. Every "scene" setting is spot on. More than enough settings and combinations to satisfy any rational person! You'll get used to the ring around the lens for selections real quick! Battery takes a LONG time to charge in-camera, suggest spares and a wall charger to avoid flame-out. I paper-punched a few dots from skate tape and put on front to help grip. Tacky, but does the job. Get a big SD for this, they recommend a class 4, I got a 64G class 10 on sale at Best Buy, but get more if you do videos and/or keep a big library on the card, it'll transfer faster. If you want a REAL camera to challenge your creativity, this is the one! Plus, you'll probably have it with you when that iPhone just isn't enough. Get the how-to book on the web site, as included documentation is sparse.Read full review...

Awesome compact camera, close to an SLR in functionality and quality; wish it had longer zoom

The camera is awesome for its size. Fits in your pocket (a tad bulky, but it does fit), and had a larger sensor than most other compacts, so the image quality is awesome, and has much of the functionality of an SLR. The auto setting is really great for most situations, but the manual setting lets you change everything on the camera: shutter speed, f-stop, ISO, white balance, etc. The continuous shooting mode is great for shooting action. It also shoots RAW. It has the pop-up viewfinder thing which everyone raves about, though I really don't use it. I love the LCD screen on the back, it tilts up or down, so you can hold the camera high above your head or way low down, tilt the LCD toward you, and still see what you're shooting.

The only drawback is that it only has 3.3x zoom, which really isn't very much. I don't know the science behind cameras, so I don't know if they just can't fit a longer zoom lens on this camera and still have it be pocket-sized – since it seems any old standard point-and-shoot compact camera can have 10x or 20x zoom. Whatever the reasoning, this camera only goes to 3.3x, which is a shortcoming in some of my photo situations. If it went even to a 10x zoom length, it would be the absolute perfect compact camera. But still, it's probably the best compact on the market now.

Perfect travel camera

Great camera with wide aperture Zeiss lens, built-in pop up viewfinder and compact body, excellent quality pictures and videos anywhere I go. The add-on grip helps make the camera a bit easier to handle. The lower corner of the rear display has a few dents but overall it is a great little camera for the money.Read full review...

Not disappointing at all

I bought this for *ish and giggles and it's easily one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. The photo quality is fantastic and the camera is so easy to use. I would totally recommend if you're willing to spend a couple of more hundred dollars on a point and shoot.Read full review...
