a great camcorder

this is indeed a great camcorder,my wife is for ever trying to get me to go digital but i have a fondness for this type of recorder plus i have tons of video i have to pass on to dvd and also a great deal of empty cassettes,if you are looking for a recorder with nice features and easy too record with look no further for here it is,i like that with a timer it lets you know when you have a few minutes left so you can get ready to come to a close with your recording.Read full review

Perfect for transferring to digital format all my home movies that I haven't seen in years.

Bought this camera as my old ntsc Japanese camcorder no longer displays an image. Also I needed new camcorder to transfer anologue hi8 tapes into digital format to preserve my memories.

Sony TRV308 as I remember

Back in my day of in early 2000s camcorders. I was really impressed with how these cams work. Very well made camcorder. High quality workmanship. And all the cool features and abilities for really cheap $300 compared to $1000 for my first VHS camcorder back in the day. And that Nightshot feature. That is way cool. And all kinds of extra features that my first cam didn't come close to.
In the time of this camcorder. There really was NOTHING I did not like. It was so many things I liked about these cams! One thing I really liked was the ability to record in the LP mode. (4 hrs on a tape), excellent low light handling, and that compact size! With tons of cool perks, like titler, time/date display, video light, and really cool effects!

But FUNNY. That when I compare the quality of the video with TODAYS 2018 camcorder. NOT EVEN! NOT EVEN CLOSE to the picture quality of todays 1080p HD cams!! The video quality is a LAUGH compared to todays 2018 tech. BUT just remember, back in my days in the early 2000s. THIS TRV308 was a VERY nice camcorder. Good for digitizing old memories on 8mm and Hi8mm (needed different cables)

I bought this for digitizing my old collection of 8mm and Hi8 tapes. It has worded admirably for that purpose in conjunction with using SVideo out cable (I suppled). The quality is better than when I had it commercially digitized by shipping out via email. I use a $33 StarTech S-Video / Composite to USB Video Capture Cable to import over USB into my macbook.

My one issue with the unit sent me is that it had the wrong AudioVideo cable. The cable had a miniplug for the camcorder and black & red RCA outputs. Using that, the audio always had a large buzz. I replaced with an old AV cable from another camcorder, that had 3 RCA outputs : Red&white audio & yellow video. With that I've had good digitizing.

Works As Described

The product works as described and I have been able to slowly transfer my old family videos to my computer. I have been looking for one of these for a good price and I believe I got really lucky with this one. Unit works as intended for a resonable price.

This Handycam was in pretty good condition. A little bit of wear an tear, but in decent condition. Opperates the way it should and is being used for conversion purposes. Overall a good purchase.
