Not what I expected

Not what I expected-the sound quality. The item itself is in working order and is not damaged in any way and id arrive packaged properly and inn a timely manner.
So it is either defective sound wise or my expectations were higher than what could be expected that kind of headset at the year it was madeRead full review...

Inexpensive, yet comfortable, nice sound, clearly a winner on its own class

We found the MDR-W08L during the search for an affordable lightweight pair of phones to use on-the-go with portable devices like tablets. We wanted something that would depart from the crowd of conventional in-ear and over-the-ear designs.
After purchase, both me and my wife were quickly impressed with the high level of comfort while using it which is of significance as her ears are considerably smaller than mine. In spite of the mild spring action of the plastic piece over the head, it surprisingly "stays put" as long as you use it in the correct (L and R) position.
Sound is very detailed without unnatural brightness that could lead to listening fatigue. Well balanced design neither leak too much sound in quiet surroundings, nor isolates you too much from noisy environments for normal listening levels. Due to its high sensitivity (104dB/mW), care should be exercized against high volume levels to prevent damaging your ears.
Considering its good scores on both ergonomics and sound, with the prized help of the high-tech neodymium magnets, it is understandable (and even expected) that compromises were made somewhere else to keep the prodution costs low. Despite of its low profile, the all-plastic body does not fold anyway, yet it is delicate enough to render it a throw-away in case of rough handling inside crammed handbags, and the short (3 ft long) cable can make it difficult to use with your desktop. We liked the right angle connector, though, because we find it usually better for portable devices.
All in all, we felt that considering its competitors on the same price range, this design is clearly a winner. If just like us, you are focusing more on the ergonomics and sound than on a fancy, colorful design, the inconvenience of searching for a not so widespread product might be well worth the effort.

Best Headphones EVER!!

I was so happy to pickup what may have been the last "NEW" Sony MDR-W014 headphones in the world. I am sitting here listening to perfection. They continue to just get better and better. I would rather listen through these than my AKG 240's. Seriously. Come on Sony make these again... I am buying a few used ones just to have them in my safe just in case I ever break these and they all run out some day. No substitutes available, I have tried them all.Read full review...

These things are great

I love the quality of the sound the quality of the product I just wish they would not discontinue them and keep making them or start making them again. My sixteen-year-old son is used to wear and regular earbuds and he tried these and said they were a lot better than anything out there today. But the thing is all the kids laughed at him because I guess they are not cool looking so he does not wear them. But I didn't buy them for him anywayRead full review...

Sony headphones

I purchased the Sony MDR-W08L reconditioned as the company no longer makes them new. The unit looked new except for a stress mark in one of the arms that holds the speaker. The white stress mark concerned me but looks pretty strong after a closer inspection. Either way buy these headphones because the sound is wonderful. The headset is light and you hardly feel them. They were shipped promptly too!Read full review...

If you find one, Buy it! or pm me and I will.

I cannot use the regular earplugs of whatever brand -it hurts my ears after just about 10-20 minutes. I tried over-the-ear earphones but it's bulky, even the folding ones. Until I discovered this Sony MDR-W08L, --this is fantastic! Now I listen to music for hours and hours and hours. It feels like "It's not even there." I learned that this is a 1995 production and hence discontinued by Sony but I will be looking everywhere to buy some -these are great gifts for people on the go.Read full review...

Sony MDR W08L

These last about 5 uses then one side or the other shorts out. It's unfortunate as they are my favorite for several type situations.

Great sounding, feather-light, inexpensive, tough headphones

Great inexpensive headphone for the gym. The survive a good sweaty workout and can also survive lots of catches of the cord on a machine. Very nice sound if you like rock and blues; hip hoppers might look elsewhere since using these the bass sounds like an instrument and not an earthquake. Will buy another set when these finally get killed at the gym.Read full review...
